This was the first video I have watch with Peter doing the build. Peter I give you 4.5 stars for your video performance and a 5 stars for the build. I think my 10 year old grandson could follow you without a hitch and me with only one or two. Very good video and build, I just might make this my first scratch foam build with my grandson to assist me. I am hooked and have enjoyed flying with my sons and grandsons, now to get my dad into the hobby.

+Michael Hampton You came the closest to my exact assessment of Peter's 1st build video! Bravo Peter! Like others have said, I also am glad that you are a part of the FT team! You are very talented! Michael, I also got hooked on RC because of a grandson and build/fly is a really great venue for happy times with my grandchildren.

Im always needing better and larger tires for my planes since I take off typically from a grass field. The tire plans in this kit are AMAZING for grass fields. I use these designs now on all my scratch builds even on my Kraken!
@fierceflyer5

Peter, when you hooked up the rudder & elevator you put the wire through the outermost hole in the surfaces for more throw. That's a mistake. The innermost hole on the surface & outermost on the servo gives the most throw. Opposite for less throw.

Those little uprights on the stabilizer are called vortex generators. They help to increase the efficiency of the control surface and also reduce flutter at hi speed.

In regards to the landing gear wire dimension shown in the video (19:85), the 11" dimension includes the 3.25" on the left. The drawing implies the total length to be 14.25" which is incorrect.

If I remember correctly, you get the most throw with the wire closest to the hinge. You get more torque/leverage the further you are from the hinge. Thus, the ever-present mechanical trade off, more motion and less torque, or less motion and more torque.
@TimmSchn
@TimmSchn 9 лет назад
This is a nice build! one small correction, because it often gets confused and confusing this may lead to problems. Female and male plugs are not named after the housings but after the pins. Meaning the lead from the servo is the female plug, the pins are the "holes". The plug on the Y-Lead is the male plug, even though the plug housing suggests otherwise. The housing protects the male pins. Mixing this up will lead to problems when buying plug casings or crimp contacts, so best to try and be correct on this. Other than that, great work, awesome builds and great videos. I'm always eager to watch your videos!

I've done a hell of a lot of electronics- building etal. And also found it odd that in the RC world the universally accepted 3-pin *socket* is referred to a male connector but hey... that's what they do... it's the RC world ;-)

Several years ago two buddies and I built three of these. They were almost the worst handling planes we've ever flown. We each tried to put a good face on it, but it came up the other day and the verdict was unanimous, this plane is crap. I'm not sure why, as they look like a typical plane. We tried different CG locations and what not, but they were just impossible to trim and seemed to react poorly to varying throttle. Fun to build, it looks great, and flies like crap. The bloody Barron is a good flyer. Several of the others, not so much.

+Alex Rüb so i now have a tiny powerpod i cut the back half off at about 50% and so i can barely shove the battery into the powerpod
@DareCdn
@DareCdn 9 лет назад
+Alex Rüb I just pushed the battery (2200mAh) into the belly of the fuselage as far forward as possible. Take some stick on Velcro(rough side) about 8 inches long & stick about 1-1.5inches onto the bottom of the power pod in front of the belly cutout then put some tape onto the rest of the sticky side of the Velcro. Place a piece of Velcro(opposite of the 8inch strip, in my case the fuzzy side) 1" long on the bottom of fuselage(exterior of plane) I then glued some balsa rails(2 of them spreading them out so the battery can slide in between them) to the interior belly of the plane where the battery would lay in. You then push the battery in place and pull the 8 inch Velcro(can cut it to size later) over the end of the battery and onto the fuzzy Velcro on the exterior of the plane. Your battery wont go anywhere now. Would be a lot easier to explain with pictures but not sure how to upload them.

Liam Geyser I'm actually almost done Building a mini version of the bushwhacker! I am scratch building it though! What I did was printed the plans out at 40% size. Keep in mind that when you shrink down the plans it also shrinks down the thickness of the foamboard on the plans, so what you will need to do is just cut out the slots thicker , four instance where the tailfeathers slide into. I haven't ran into any serious trouble yet, good luck.
