The Princess of Asturias, Princess Leonor of Spain received the Medal of Aragon, the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Aragon, for "being worthy of the general affection of the Aragonese people and showing a special sensitivity towards that land".

The president addressed the audience, after that Princess Leonor said that today is a special day because the affection of many people of this land is reflected in the recognitions with which you distinguish me: the title of adopted daughter of Zaragoza, the Medal of the Courts and the Medal of Aragon. My father experienced it in a similar way almost 40 years ago and these days we have talked a lot about it. Following in his footsteps means a lot to me.
“Resident of Aragon, Minister of Defence, President of the Cortes, Mayor of Zaragoza, authorities, ladies and gentlemen. I greet in particular all the people of Aragon who are supporting me on this exciting morning.
I confess that when I arrived in Zaragoza on August 17 I came with a lot of expectations, partly because of everything my father had told me, although I also knew that some stages would not be easy. I arrived at the General Military Academy with enthusiasm and a great desire to learn and get to know both my classmates, as well as the other promotions with whom I have shared this year.
I can tell you that what I have experienced here far exceeds what I thought ten months ago. In Zaragoza, in Aragon, I felt at home, welcomed and accompanied in a land that will always be part of my life. There are only five weeks left before I leave, before I receive my ensign's office, and I am already beginning to miss you!.
Not only have I trained as a cadet, but discovering the academic and intellectual, physical and technical demands that this entails, makes me appreciate the Army and our Armed Forces even more. Here I have met young people of my generation and I have lived with them. I assure you that what we experience while we are training at the Academy unites us forever and makes us mature and grow thanks to the camaraderie, the guidance of managers and teachers and all the people of the Academy who drive us to continue advancing and improving. Here we have sworn the flag, here we have overcome moments that required effort and great teamwork, here we have enjoyed and suffered together and, above all, here we have learned a lot.
In these months I have felt the respect and kindness of the people of Aragon who, in addition, are accompanying me on this morning that is so important to me. Their support has been and continues to be continuous, both in the Aljafería, as well as in the Plaza del Pilar and in the Seo del Salvador, historical places where tradition and symbolism are strongly projected in the soul of the Aragonese and also of the Crown. I'm really grateful for what I've experienced here during this time, for everything this city has given me.
