Could you do a video on what to do when you first bring your bird home? I've been watching other videos but mid video they would recommend wooden dowels, I don't really want to listen to what they have to say after that. Thanks!
This is definitely the best and most informative bird channel on RU-vid. There's a lot of misinformation out there and you helped me see things clearer. Thanks! 😀
I would love to watch a video of them doing their fly around the room, screaming, and seeing Newts reaction as well. Sounds like it pure enjoyment for them. 🐥🐦
Don't worry Flock talk your fans will come back and remember you don't have to edit videos so much we don't care, we just love seeing you and your birds 😄
I love your channel so much!!! Do you think you can ever talk about how to introduce new foods to your birds? I have 2 cockatiels and I've been trying to get them to eat strawberries/anything freshly grown (as long as it's ok for them to eat!) But they always ignore it or pick it out of the bowl! Thank you so much for all your help though! I love to see a bird lover rescuing birds and giving them a better life! Ps - if you already made a video about what I was asking I'm sorry! I'm checking out older videos right now that I have not seen yet!
Do not listen to the person who replied to you. Make them a bird safe birdie bread without dairy. Put some veggies, and I don’t know about fruit in the mix. You can even put some of their pellets in. You can probably find a recipe online.
Bell Iron Fist thanks so much for the input, I'll be sure to check online and try out your idea too! I know that person was a troll or had no clue what they were taking about so I ignored them lol :)
Furry Trash try making your bird a bird salad ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NG3V-RyVfEA.html or add new dry foods into an oatmeal blend. My birds love them both.
I am so amazed that you will let the wings grow back! It's confusing for me why anyone would ever clip them in the first place. I you have a bird, I think you should not clip their wings even if it makes them easier to handle. It's their way of moving through the environment (apart from climbing or simply walking, of course) and I always see it like this: Cats love to jump on stuff and are good climbers, so like birds, they can reach really bad/dangerous places. But no cat owner would ever consider impairing their capability of jumping/climbing. If you have a bird, you should make your house/flat/room bird-safe and not the other way around. We removed a lot of toxic plants from our livingroom so our parrotlets can fly there and explore it (supervised). The plants are now in other rooms that the birds won't go to, so everyone's happy.
I have a conure! Her name is marigold! Does Newt talk at all!? Marigold talks all the time! “Sweet sweet” “pretty girl” “go night night” “come” “no” and “thank you” She is flighted and wears a diaper for a large portion on the day cuz she wants to be in the action all day long! She is such a sweet girl! She has two cages, her day cage and her bed cage. I have no idea if that’s normal but she was a rescue so she is pretty attached to me, I don’t mind. oh my she loves water! Sweet girl always has to take a shower with me! I love birds!! Btw your channel is pretty amazing!
Please come back! We miss you! You are the best bird info on RU-vid! The birds need you!! We need you! Hope all is well, come back soon! Jesus loves you!
My Cockatiel Allen has a problem with one of his wings. I took him to the vet twice already for it and I am told he will probably never fly again. His flight feathers on that one wing don’t grow in. I’m going to do this to keep his spirits up. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video, my bird was clipped by the store where I got him. I fully intend to let his wings regrow. The "parrot experts" there told me that he would never be tame if he was flighted... yikes
Thank you so much for this amazing informative video! I’m trying to take care of a previously neglected bird and sadly have to clip his wings because he runs into walls every chance he gets while out of his cage :(( (I had to take him out to clean it) (he’s okay btw I set up blankets over most hard surfaces) I don’t think he knows how to properly fly and I really wanted to see if there was a way to teach him!! Cause I would love to let his feathers grow out and to fly freely without worry :> !! So I’m also super happy to see this touch on trust building as well! Cause me and this little guy have a long road ahead of us
My bird is not clipped but is always flying around the house and landing in the oddest of places. For example one night I left the cage door open and in the morning we found him in the bathroom next to toilet! Loui is crazy!
Could you do a video on how to let your birds trust you and how to train them to just live around the house? Also a video on how to introduce your bird to another pet such as a dog?
Thank you so much for this video! I’m getting a Cockatiel soon and his wings are clipped. I was wondering how to exercise/teach him to fly so thanks! Your channel has helped me with many things now including this 💜
My budgie’s wings are clipped (sadly she hasn’t gone thru her first molt yet 😕) but she flaps her wings on the floor and in her cage and she is kinda learning recall in her cage
How can you tell if your bird already mastered the trick? Like should I keep on just training them a bit everyday? Thanks in advance! Ps. Your videos are really helping me alot with my bird. I hope you keep them going. :)
If newt has a foot ring then I might recommend thinking about loose things in the cage if he's going to be balancing around because my bird got her leg caught in a toy that way by her previous owner and broke her leg and had to have it removed so I'd check with rings and hoops in the cage that he can't get caught :) thanks for the video we've recently had to clip our budgies wings because she crashed and bled everywhere so this helps!
Thank you Courtney for making this video....it helped me a lot well it helped me train my bird...btw my bird is a Green Cheek Conure/Kiwi,again thank you 😜❤️ (Edit) I actually have 4 birds,1 bunny and a beta fish
I have only just stumbled upon your channel & I wanted to ask a few things- Firstly, are you an avian vet? Just curious ☺️ Secondly- I was just watching your video about things that aren't good for birds that are sold in pet stores. Is there a way to get pet stores to reconsider their stocks? & Also, you mentioned the 'Happy Huts' aren't good for them, I had one for my last cockatiel & I did notice she became a bit aggressive, but I only bought it because it was winter, her cage was huge to a point it took using 2 Queen size doona (quilt) covers to cover her cage at night, & the lady I bought my cockatiel from mentioned buying the happy hut for her to keep warm in. So my question is what else can be bought or used to keep a cockatiel warm in during winter time when temps drop below 8° inside the house?
How do you get your birds to focus (in this video, newt specifically) on recall training? I've always struggled with it with my budgies, they're so easily distracted. I've successfully trained one, but unfortunately he escaped. Now I'm working on a new one but he looks all over the place during training and ends up playing with something else.
You seem so good at taking care of your birds! Could I please request a video on how to make a bird like being pet? My green cheek conure trusts me enough to sit on my hand but he won’t let me pet him :( Whenever I move my finger closer to his head, he fly away, try to bite me (but not too hard) or steps up on it. His previous owner told me he wasn’t completely tame and hadn’t been handled very much and I really wish to change that. Any tips will be appreciated! :)
I just got a cockatiel 3 days ago and the previous owners also didn't do the best wing clipping job... He keeps trying to fly around and he crashed into the cage wall multiple times and still does. My mom took him out because he really wanted out and we were going to try to get him to eat something, but he tried to escape and made feathers on BOTH his wings bleed. I am very worried idk what to do because he doesn't trust me enough to train him or anything but I need him to stop hurting himself. :(
Ok, so my birds aren’t the biggest fans of treats coming from my hand. They enjoy millets, fruits, etc. inside of their cages at their own time. But, I want to train them on how to come to me or be more comfortable with me with treats. Can you do a video on how to get them to trust you more?
I just got a new born Senegal last week. He (or she) is just 1 month old, and just won't sit down. Hand fed with formula but loves a couple of seeds ones or twice a day. I can't teach him any tricks because he just won't listen. I don't yell or hurt him because I know that is just not right. Do you think the problem is the age, and I should just wait a couple of months, or is it something else? I could really use your advise. I started watching the channel as soon as I knew I would get a bird and a love it!
Thanks for another great video! :) I was wondering if you could help me out... So, I have a lovebird who's a bit less than 2 months old, and I started to train her (your videos are huuuuuge help). She's not clipped, but many people (along with the lady who I got her from-all her birds are clipped) are telling me "you should clip her wings you'll see she'll fly away" and "how can you not clip her wings don't be st*#%d" etc. I've been thinking for some time now, should I leave her like this, or should I clip her (but not too much so she could still fly, but like shorter distances)? I really don't know!!! I'd be grateful for any opinions, don't judge me please, I just want the best for her... Thanks
Either way, it's not as bad for the bird's health as people make out to be - wings left alone are fine, clipped wings are fine. I clip my bird's wings so he's safe in my room (I have high cabinets that he can't get down from) but it's all about personal preference so there's not much advice to give unless you have any specific fears about it :) Good luck
I have a random question and I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can answer. I have a budgie of 6 years and we are very closely bonded. I am also thinking of getting a parrotlet, but I am worried that I may lose my bond with my budgie. I know not to put them inside the same cage, but was wondering what would happen to the bond, and whether or not a budgie a parrotlet might be a dangerous pairing? (Again, not in same cage).
This video is so helpful! I do have a problem though, I got a baby cockatiel a few days ago. I put 2 toys in his cage so he isn’t bored when he is in the cage but he won’t even touch them. He’s been in the cage with for a week now and he’s not scared around them but won’t touch them. I know he is t scared or nervous in his surroundings because he loves to be pet, held and out of the cage. He also sings which is adorable. Do you know of any way to help him play with the toys? Please help
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I've just got this old budgie (he's about 6 years old) off this family who were giving him away because they were moving. Anyway the bird is gorgeous but I don't think he's ever been handled. I've had him for a good while now and he's still not used to me. His body language looks beyond terrified, heavy breathing, erratic flying, feathers pulled in every time I come within feet of the cage. I'm trying to be very patient with him, talking to him sitting near to his cage which he's now fine with if I sit very still for a good 30 minutes and talk to him but feeding, watering and cleaning is a nightmare and so stressful for him I don't know what to do. Is it worth trying? I just don't want to stress him out pointlessly. I could give him to an aviary but he's always lived indoors, never lived with other birds and I can't imagine how hard the journey would be for him as it's quite far away. Any tips? Honestly I love him and I really don't want to give him away without at least trying. I've owned other budgies from similar circumstances but never this old or terrified of me.
Just to add, I really need to be able to handle him to transport him anyway so it's not really an option. I'm also concerned as he doesn't have a ring ergo, I Don't think he's ever been to the vet. I'm extremely concerned.
Your channel is so great! I've recently gotten a bird green cheek that is mildly aggressive do you know how to fix it? Also I have to introduce my new parrot to my old one do you have any tips?
Ferris is in the bedroom with me. He's strictly trained to perch and play in and on his cage with a play station in the window. His wings are not clipped. One night I left him out thinking "He's so obedient, he'll be fine" That night there was a loud slam in the night. Ferris began to fly around the room in the pitch dark, bannging into the walls with sharp thuds. Gave me quite a scare.
Hi! I just got my first parrot today and unfortunately they had clipped his wings before we got him. Thanks for this video I’m going to practice this tomorrow when my baby wakes up :) How doI train my bird how to fly to me from a short distance?
There’s a video on the flock-talk tumblr where she’s teaching him how to do this. Basically, you train step-up, then you keep moving your hand further and further away from the bird so they have to jump, then fly to your hand.
I have two budgies and they refuse to eat anything except seed and it shows. I try to give them as much excercise as possible and play with them a lot. I’m worried however because again they won’t eat anything else that I try and give them such as their fruits and veggies. I’ve tried hiding it in their seed. I’ve tried having that the only thing in their bowl for 3 hours (but I didn’t want to starve them so I gave them back their seed because they wouldn’t even try the other stuff) I’ve tried hand feeding it to them (because sometimes I hand feed them seed) and they won’t eat it. I’ve tried even the candied fruit for birds and they don’t want that either. Help please? I don’t know what else to try.
hello , i know this is not related to the idea of exercise BUT i need help i used to own a bird that bonded with me cause i got him when he was young and i fed him my friend got a bird several days ago and i told him to only feed the bird and put him in the cage to get used to his new home . however that bird is so afraid of my friend even after more that a week passed . what should my friend do to get the bird to stop being afraid . it is a cockatiel thanks
My birds won't eat anything besides seed. I have tried several brands and lots of other things such as hiding little bits in the seed, because I am worried that they aren't getting enough nutrients. Any suggestions?
Hey Flock-Talk I really want a bird but I have three small dogs. I've heard stories of people's dogs getting along with their birds. But I've also heard tragic stories of dogs attacking their birds, killing or injuring them, and it makes me hesitant about getting one. What precautions should I take if I get a pet bird?
Hello! Right now I’m very concerned about my budgie. Yesterday he was fine, and today he seems deathly ill. I left him to go to a friends house for the night with a full bowl of seed (I’m working on transitioning his diet, but right now the only thing he’ll touch is seed), and fresh water. Today I came home and he had kicked all the food out (he does do this sometimes) and flipped the water out of his bowl. He was puffed up and sitting in a corner. He’s moving extremely slow. Eating very slow as well. He’s letting me handle him without a fuss, something that he never does as he hates being handled. However, he’s also molting. I read a few things that said birds can appear very sick when the molt, but I’m still so worried that when I wake up and uncover his cage tomorrow morning, he’ll be gone :(. Do any of your birds act sick when the molt? There are absolutely no avian vets anywhere near me and I honestly have no idea what to do
I've had my two budgies for about to months now, and they hate me. They've never liked me, and of the of budgies trys to chew through the cage. Any tips? I feel really bad I cant make them happy. They are scared whenever I set my hand in, and they even freak out when I change their food or water. Please help!
I feel sorry for saying this late but when you are trying to bond with them either divide their cage or separate them or if you need to get them together target train. And converse and do everything infront of them (just not cook) show a sign of love what I did was keep your hand a bit outside the cage and sing. They may be really stressed and you may have got them as an adult which meant that their diets and things have been established to them so it may take longer to train
My bird had been changing his feathers , like losing a lit of them and rearranging everything (i dont know what it s called) and when this makes him fly pretty badly.. so today he (Elvis) couldnt get enough altitude and crashed to the ground 😫😥 i feel TERRIBLE for him and for some reason i keep thinking it was my fault.. i hope there's no pain or damage😭
Can your Lovebirds talk? My boyfriend and I are talking about getting a lovebird or a cockatiel, but we would like them to learn talking ❤️ love your channel Btw.
I have been trying to contact you through Tumbler but I think I’ve been doing it wrong. I’m not terrifically tech savvy. I recently acquired a few birds and started beginner training in step up and targeting. I had 2 budgies that I got from a Facebook ad for a $49 bird cage that came with 2 budgies. A few months later I got a couple cockatiels. Like I said they were all minimally trained by me. Then a dear friend of mine became terminally ill and I moved in with her for a couple months. The birds stayed home with my husband and children but they didn’t continue training so 3 of the birds will no longer step up it target. What is the best way to begging training again. When I go to get them they walk and fly away. I don’t want to force them, of course. Do you give training lessons via Skype or any other means? Our flock really needs a little help. Thanks Rivka
Rivka Shalvah Weiss first, I don't judge or anything but maybe buying birds as a "lot" with a cage wasn't a good idea, especially in a Facebook ad. but what can help is treats. usually, they are scared of our hands thinking they're separate "object" from our bodies, what I did at first was giving treats through his cage bars with a pair of twisers, when he got more confident, I started giving him with my fingers and he directly got super cool and wasn't so scared of my hand anymore because it gives him treats, it must be good! I guess be patient and never force them to anything, good luck to you!
ella♡ that's the problem with my baby bird. For me it was the case that I wanted him to be in a better place. I personally don't care if my budgie doesn't want my hands. He can play with my hair on my shoulder.
ella♡ in retrospect it was a bad idea. I hadn’t gotten a bird since my ringneck parakeet died years ago. I saw the ad and made an emotional decision. I’m certain that when I got them, they had never been out of the cage. The cockatiels I got from a breeder and they were hand fed from 3 weeks. Thank you for the suggestion of the tweezers. I’ll try that. I open the cage in the morning so they can climb around and go on their play gym. At night I put the one bird who’ll let me touch her in the cage and the rest follow her.
My bird has been flighted for a few years, but she's still extremely hesitant to fly. She'll only actually take off or seriously flap if she feels like she's in danger. How would recommend I'd could encourage her to start flying more regularly?
Hello I'm new to your channel and love the content. Anyways I really want to get a bird but don't know what species to get. What species do you recommend for beginners?
I’d recommend pigeons! They’re shockingly intelligent, very hardy, & very cheap. You can train them to do almost anything, except for things that involves dexterous foot usage (they lack zygodactyl feet to grasp like parrots do). I won’t gush about them forever, but I’d really recommend them!
I follow you since a while even if i'm french speaker. I will have a cockatiel in a few weeks. He's born at april 8th 2018. I hope to start him well and i will take some coatching stuff if you could.by mail or skype or i dont know. Say it if you want
I have hearing issues. May I suggest you speak more slowly. Your presentation is just a blur. I'd like to take care of my clipped parakeet until he grows out his clipped wings.
