Neighbor bought certified pre-owned car, end up in hospital couple of times with breeding problems, asthma and bronchitis, car was full of mold under dash, carpet etc, explained why windshield was always fogging, find out in the end that car was in the flood.

Don’t forget to check the transmission in differentials for water The vent tubes on some vehicles set pretty low.

Guys, one thing you do that bugs me. Turn these engines over by hand before you try and crank them. If they do have a cylinder full of water and the engine is cranked you could bend rods. If it's free to turn through two complete turns ( 4 cycle engine ) and there's no water in the intake then it's clear to try and spin with the starter. And as others have commented, check the trans and diff as well as brake and PS fluids. Then put a few miles on them and check for foam again. Just an FYI, years ago flood cars often had the fluids changed at the yard. But, if they did not start them and drive them, then water in all the odd places might not have been flushed out. A few miles will circulate fluids and then the next fluid change will get most of the remaining water out.

My only experience with a flood car was the one I bought for parts because it was cheaper than buying all the body panels I needed (it was also the same color, which was nice) - but the amount of mud and debris I found inside the body when I cut the panels off was enough to permanently put me off ever getting a flood car for long-term use.

Audi convertible. The body control module is under the driver's side carpet. You can buy them used, but strongly suggest it be moved to the upper driver's side kick panel.

The blown fuses are seldom the actual "problem" but more a protection to keep thing from getting catastrophic . Awesome series none the less, flood cars fascinate me for some reason .

All those cars except CC came from New Jersey I can tell by the NJ inspection sticker on the front windshield and lot of cars didn’t even get flooded or barely got flooded and people reported to their insurance company just to get out of the car for example my next door neighbor reported his car to her insurance and her car wasn’t even flooded, water only got to the undercarriage and she took the Garden hose put some water in exhaust and called insurance company just because she wanted to get out of the car her payment was too high

You guys are so lucky ,dont be put of by the steam from exhaust it will take alot of drying out and some high speed runs.

I did say I personally wouldn't want a previously flood damaged car. However if you take them apart and check all the modules and replace what's needed then you should be OK. As you say you are taking a risk with any purchase from Copart but flood damaged vehicles are perhaps a higher risk . Great to see they all started, I would always expect a Toyota to start I did think the Ford might be a problem but that was just a feeling ! How do you ensure the integrity of all the electrics and airbag systems. How do you test them and how do you ensure that future corrosion will not affect the wiring in the future. I'm from New Zealand, here a flooded car will need a new wiring loom fitted from front to back, not cut and pasted, all sensors and airbags replaced. Is its history recorded on it's paper work?

Wow that Explorer sounds aweful! I don't know how long that one will last. LIke others say, change ALL of the fluids on all of them. Also, since the auctions (sellers) try to clean up the interiors, a good place to look is the seat belts. Pull them out and look for debris, water stains, etc. No one ever cleans the seatbelts.

if there is water inside your air filter, it will get sucks up into your pistons, and could cause them to bent. little heads up.

Locked up Motors remove all spark plugs to see if water is in the cylinders it will pump out

Copart must have spent a hundred grand in on air fresheners every car has those dash vent air freshener!!!!!

Congratulations, 6 easy fixes. I have a Passat very similar year and configuration to that CC and it's a really great car for that price (People in US think that it's an small engine but mine is 1.4TSI and it's almost 300000km).

SC is the perfect state for these. Salvage title means nothing.. I can and have purchased cars from copart, gone to DMV gotten plates and then back to copart to drive it home. lol

I thought the Explorer was trash. The only thing that worries me is. Smoke it's lingering. It's not like steam. It's like a head gasket.

Just a suggestion you might want to check the air filters as well as when you're checking the oil it's your money but I would like to see you pay less money for those cars some are pretty good deals though

Come on guys...cringing the whole time here, not properly checking over car/air intakes etc. Auction didn't start some of them because they didn't want to risk possibly hydrolocking the engines. Clearing codes doesn't fix them, so many systems need to see movement/drive cycles/etc. You keep commenting on how clean the interior is/must not have gotten water in, but also say you know Copart cleans them! The back door is propped open and taped for a reason to allow interior to vent and dry out. And yes you can definitely do damage just with the starter on a hydrolocked engine, that Ford may run but definitely doesn't sound right. Before anyone comments....yes I know they're their cars and they can do whatever they want with them. I'm just concerned that they're on here making it look like every flood car is perfectly fine. I sold used cars for a long time and a few of my run around beaters (not to be sold) were previously flooded. Every single one had issues down the road after driving a while

One of the biggest problems I found helping rebuild water damage cars. Ground wires for the wiring harness will get corroded. All cars have several GM are specifically bad about ABS problems from simple ground wires needing to be cleaned

here in Canada a flood salvage vehicle can never be returned to the road. They can only be used as parts vehicles and never registered again as they cannot pass a salvage inspection with the flood designation.

I sujest to check the electric boxes first where can be shorted out when you start the car.

Guys, when pumping out the cylinders on a petrol, you should really pull the fuel pump fuse first - all it takes on one spark on that fuel injected mist coming out of the spark plug holes. Also, as other have said, if I am looking at a "flooded" car, the first thing to do before trying to start is pull the plugs, open the air filter to check for water and spin it over. If water is in the cylinders, even turning over on the starter can do damage internally. But overall you guys hit the jackpot on these.

Personally I'd change the oil before starting any flood car. Diff and trans too. Oil and water separate after sitting a while, I've seen too many times where the drain plug is pulled and crystal clear water pours out for a few seconds before oil does. This is why I've always been hesitant to buy from copart because you never know how many people have tried to start it.

Remember to check the oil after running the engines because the water will separate to the bottom. After running is when you will see milkshake on the stick!

Make sure the vw cc has had the timing chain tensioner replaced. Its close to the normal mileage that they fail

you dont have to change the engine if there was water in it, most of the flood cars arent driving when there flooded during a storm once you pull spark plugs and crank to expel the water put some oil down the cylinder, and thRs about it besides changing all the fluids , most flood vehicles dont have bent connecting rods

Floods are definitely a gamble but can be great deals. Honestly best if noone starts it before you buy it.. Pull plugs if you can, or turn by hand first. Sometimes they start but the damage is done (con rod bending), with failure down the road..ask how I know 😒. Compression test could/would show this.. it happens. Hopefully not the case here. I think with those water levels the First thing you should be checking is Air Cleaner element for Water Filter b4 starting these Vehicles.
