Drone and helicopter footage shows the extent of flood damage in towns across Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands after heavy rainfall caused water levels to rise in large parts of western Europe. Footage from local Belgian TV station RTL shows cars submerged in water and flooded streets and shops in the small town of Esneux, on the River Ourthe, just south of Liege. In Germany 18 people died and dozens were missing around the wine-growing hub of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland-Palatinate state, police said, after the Ahr river that flows into the Rhine rose and brought down half a dozen houses.

I live in West Germany and i have so much luck that i live on a mountain where the floods didnt hit nearly as hard as in even other parts of my city which are not on a mountain

Well for this kind of flooding you need an elemental insurance which covers fires and floodings most people dont have those so they now stand in front of their whole lives being washed away without any covering

Rurtalsperre shortly before overflowing The Rur dam is expected to overflow within the next hour. This was announced by the Eifel-Rur Water Association (WVER). Finally, the water separated eight centimeters from the overflow. One expects an "uncontrolled overflow". Floods are to be expected in the lower reaches of the Rur, cellars and houses could be flooded. Residents should switch off their electricity as far as possible beforehand. The WVER also expects evacuations.

Around 8 p.m., the responsible association had still denied corresponding media reports to FOCUS Online. Now the association expects "major damage" in the neighboring communities and evacuations.

Natural climate change that you're referring to is not the issue, its the effects of human life and pollution which are causing more extremes of weather and overall increasing the temperature, melting ice, creating more water resulting in rising sea levels and more rainfall, in turn leading to floods. Its not rocket science. Deny it all you want but it is happening.

@@josh90bshadowcommunity74 Fukushima is an example of poor design to known risks. They put backup generators in basements that flooded to run the cooling pumps on power failure. Nuclear power is extremely safe BUT the topic is ruined by the likes of the RMBK reactor in Chernobyl. A reactor built with cost cuts in a Soviet era when safety wasn't a thing. All reactor fails are due to cost cutting/safety slashing. 5th gen reactors via Thorium solve all these issues including nuclear waste.

The Germans, who are soooo smart, never thought that building at the level of streams and rivers would inevitably lead to disasters. This has nothing to do with climate change. (Global Cooling however will probably see more intense and longer lasting rain). This is a matter of anticipating. Building on higher grounds is an option. To control climate change is an enormous illusion, a political fata morgana. And if we would interfere, it would be probably lead to unexpected disasters. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Reminds me of the same flooding in Gloucestershire a few years ago and the West Country and a wet stormy July that flattened the cereal crops and rotted potatoes in the fields and the Cumbrian floods and the October super Gale that was famously not forecast and the 1952 North Sea flooding and the 1947 great freeze that lasted over a month when crops were frozen into the soil . These events are well noted going back centuries in these isles, they have all been devastating with this one no less so. Lessons will be learned hopefully and measures put in place to help prevent a recurrence.

People don't like to hear this, but the never ending cycles of the earth bouncing back and forth between pole to pole jungles and tropical rainforests to polar icecaps is our sun is a variable star. When the sun is at maximum output, the earth is ice free. But when on the opposite end of the spectrum, the equator itself can experience winter. This has nothing to do with fossil fuels or cow flatulence or anything else humans have any control over, since it's been happening long before homosapiens entered the picture, and will continue after we're gone.

This is my worst nightmare. These politician should spend money to prepare for worst weather. But they are busy sending weapon aids to war countries. UK is never prepare for worst weather. Heat level is rising 🙈
