We here in the Mountains of the Western United States feel for you all. We hope none of you lost only things and not loved ones. Houses and the like can be replaced, things can be bought again but you can't replace someone you loved. God Bless you all and your in our prayers and thoughts.

Als ich von der Hochwasser- Katastrophe die ersten Bilder von Schuld sah, musste ich unweigerlich daran denken, das ich auf dem Camping Schuld eine Woche vorher noch mein kleines Zelt neben dem "Bushäuschen" stehen hatte und dachte, vom Camping kann doch leider nichts mehr über sein... Mein tiefes Mitgefühl der Familie Bläser und allen Campern dort, aber auch allen, die stromabwärts ähnlich Schlimmes ertragen mussten und immer noch müssen!

You were very lucky to have been evacuated!🙏💝🙏 There was an incredible failure of authorities during those days. The European Flood Warning System (EFAS), the German weather service - they all sounded the alarm days before. And very specifically the day before the flood. But the information did not reach the people in the Ahr valley with such clarity.... Many, very many people were completely unprepared.🥺 The police helicopter videos that appeared last Friday 07.10.2022 in the investigative committee on the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley were not previously known to the Koblenz public prosecutor's office. Although a "special commission Ahrtal" was established. One requested the videos now, communicated public prosecutor Dietmar Moll. Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) let stress again on Monday: _"He had seen the videos on Friday for the first time ever (...)."_ Interesting - because after the reconnaissance flight was reported directly to the mission control: Commander of the machine, from whose camera equipment the pictures originated, had described his impressions directly after the reconnaissance flight, to the situation center of the Ministry of Interior (= also situation center, which had ordered the use of the police helicopter), it is said. _A large part of those killed - about 80 people - perished after 11 p.m. on the lower Ahr, between Bad Neuenahr and Sinzig._ Could they have been warned in time? Bloody hell: Yes! One could have! In total, more than 80 bridges in the region have been completely or partially destroyed by this flood disaster. As the water carried away lots of wood [& all kinds of stuff], it caused all the stuff to build up on the bridges - until they could no longer withstand the pressure, & thus were completely or partially destroyed. As a result, each bridge that collapsed created a tidal wave that soon reached the next bridge.... A campground that hosted about 300 caravans & camper trailers was completely washed away - the caravans & camper trailers at the next bridge destroyed as if by a shredder. - Over 182 people lost their lives. - 5 firefighters died in action. - 3 people are still missing. - There were 766 injured. - 330 people were rescued from roofs, & trees. - Up to 36 helicopters were used. - 200,000 people were temporarily without power. - 17,000 people were directly affected. - 250 towns or communities were affected. - About 8000 houses damaged. - Over 500 houses were completely destroyed. - Over 80 bridges damaged or destroyed. - Over 600 km of tracks destroyed. This rain masses (the low) came rather from the north. And if the Eifel from such a low from the north with so much rain is literally filled up, then it makes the rivers & streams in the valleys due to all the water, which comes from above and from all sides down the mountains, very quickly rise. Fortunately, such a weather situation is rather rare. The meteorologist Björn Goldhausen had explained a few days ago the weather situation in an article of the "Rhein-Zeitung" m.E. very well & comprehensible, quote: _"Over the northern Eifel - three points came together. First, of course, the weather situation: We had to do with a low over Germany, which has directed moist and warm air from the Mediterranean region over eastern Germany to the west and at the same time sucked cooler air on the west side. This has created a convergence: Wind flowing together from different directions, where the air rises. This convergence reached over the southeastern Ruhr area, Bergisches Land, Sauerland down to the Eifel._ _And because the air in this convergence is warm and moist, it was able to absorb a super amount of water - it poured for hours. Point two: Because the rain was coming from the northeast, the Eifel intensified it. It faces the clouds like a bulwark, even if it is not a high mountain range in itself. We meteorologists then speak of a rainstorm. If precipitation comes from the southwest, it is usually not a problem in the Eifel, even though there can be regional congestion effects. They are severe if the rain comes from the north or northeast."_ What's the third point? These are the valleys, ... no matter how peaceful rivers or creeks may meander through a valley; when so much (extremely heavy) rain comes down, the levels rise. And let the little rivers & brooks grow to such monsters. 5 years ago 3,60 m - no problem, according to the mayor of Schuld. _This time 8,87 m to approx. 10 m._ Some houses were flooded not "only" the cellar & the first floor - but the roof was washed away. What to do when it rains? The water cannot be stopped. One can only warn the people...🥺😥🥺

Eine Woche bevor das Hochwasser kam, waren wie noch in Schuld wandern. Wir haben Löwenzahnblüten gesammelt und Marmelade draus gemacht. Dann kam das Wasser, auch bei uns zuhause sind zwei Etagen komplett zerstört und es sind so viele Menschen unnötig gestorben, weil einfach nicht ausreichend gewarnt wurde. Ich wohne ein ganzes Stück die Ahr runter, trotzdem ist es hier teilweise fast genau so schlimm gewesen.

Soviel mir bekannt ist wurde die Ahr begradigt und in Überschwemmungsgebieten gebaut.

Was für eine tolle Landschaft und dann so was Schreckliches! Wahnsinnsaufnahmen.

Die Verantwortlichen müssen ins Gefängnis, alle.. Und das für lange Zeit..

After the flood, there have been 37 suicides to date... I am a volunteer helper since two and a half month now. The destruction is still unbelievable. It will need a decade to rebuild all that is gone or destroyed. So sad

Yes, praying is much more important as it seems to be. What happened to this People is unimaginable and I think Words can not comforte them, because the Wounds are much to deep!

Thought I was going to watch another awesome bike video :/ Happy you guys made it out with your lives, sometimes things don't go as planned but you still managed to make an awesome video to show the power of nature. Wenn man daran denkt, dass an diesem Ort eine 19 jährige Feuerwehrfrau starb 😔 das ist alles so unendlich traurig. Den Menschen dort wünsche ich viel Kraft

some very instructive parts in the video: the rise of the Ahr with a timestamp (AltenAhr hydrometer broke down at 575mm cos some thought a peak higher than 3m above a "conceived average" would not occur), the clear runoff water stream of the steap slope (flow has exponential relation to rainfall and to the slope!), and the muddy runoff stream on the way up. Let's hope they'll factor in these runoff water components...

Ab und an brauchen die Flüße die volle Breite des Flußbetts, des Tals ....ab und an gießt es halt in Strömen! Ob alle 100 Jahre oder alle 1000 Jahre ... ab und an trifft der Mensch ... die falsche Entscheidung.

Impressive and horrific Images showing the dramatic event, but also that there was some time left to evacuate at least people. The number of casualties in this desaster was too high even if taking into account the exceptionality of the flood. Lessons have to be learned regarding planning of building and recue, forecast chain and local awareness for the next time. Flooding will be a risk in this area and has always been, but people's memories are shorter than several centuries especially for these "once in a lifetime" events.

I feel for the people, but when you build in high flood areas this will happen. Its only a matter of time. I live in a town on a plain that had occasional floods in the past, cause of a small stream running through the town that turned the town in to a lake. Cause of that an artificial containment lake and a safety canal around the town had to be made. At the end if you live in a small valley with a stream/river running through this will happen, its just a matter of time. Anybody still remembers Dresden flood? Same issue, city there is built on a huge flood plain. Condolences to all the people that lived there. Mein Beileid zu allen betroffenen!

There's no way on Earth I would risk my life to linger in a flood zone. When water is obviously rising, I'm out. I'll want to be out BEFORE the unexpected landslide blocks the road, etc, etc. RU-vid is not worth it for me.

Wer im ursprünglichen Überschwemmungsland eines Flusses baut oder seinen Camper stehen hat darf sich nicht wundern wenn Hochwasser zu Besuch kommt... Sorry so hart das auch klingt.

ich möchte bald behaupten , das die Wetterflieger zu dieser zeit im Luftraum eine maßgebende Rolle zu dieser Zeit dazu beigetragen haben.
