lol you guys are praising her for her response but it's not like she was not prepared for this type of question and Nightwish management pitched her what to say.
This should be really simple: - Stop asking Floor about Anette or Tarja. - Stop asking Tarja about Anette or Floor. - Stop asking Anette about Tarja or Floor.
Yes, always good nowadays to focus on the positive. Any honesty, depth, or realism would have produced a lot of butthurt snowflakes perpetually being offended to this day and decades after.
Actually it’s half and half. There are a lot of Nightwish for the fans that still love and miss Tarja and there are a lot that prefer floor. Good thing we have all their recordings to enjoy.
@diascrive Not everyone likes metal being sung with "mostly" an operatic voice, so I know plenty of people that didn't care for Tarja because they just don't like that style of singing, so saying that Tarja is Nightwish is silly............
note, she said those albums are musically amazing, not vocally. also note that Anette's legitimacy is not being a good singer, but being not-Tarja. this is a pretty serious mic drop if you read between the lines
@@bocckoka Floor is a sweetheart. She doesn't like to say a mean thing about anybody, even if interviewers try and get her to...That's one of the things I love bout her....Heck, even Tarja and her and great friends, who would have thought?
yeah i dont even know why they picked Anette, she of course can sing..but to be honest..her style was so different...and defn dont want to mock her in anyway...she just wasnt right for this band
Annette has a beautiful tonal quality to her voice and it absolutely suited the direction Tuomas wantee to take the music. However, her voice was bot suited to the Tarja era songs. Annette put a different spin on those which is perfectly fine. Floor is doing exactly that now. Annette is proving her metal chops with her latest projects. She is slam dunking the naysayers. All 3 singers of Nightwish rock for different reasons. Appreciate what they brought and bring to the table and stop comparing them or bringing them down.
I have to disagree with that. It's common that replacement singers get this question from interviewers. Also, may I remind you all, her management, and that of Nightwish, has to approve EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that she is asked. There is no such thing as a "gotcha" question in relation to this band because of their media history, they demand to have questions vetted before anything is ever asked of them. Hence, Floor already knew this question was coming. So saying she was "set up" is bullshit. The questions are approved and the answers are already rehearsed. It's as easy as that.
@@michaelvedal1907 I do not believe she knew the question was coming, not ever person has approved and disapproved questions, maybe some politicians and musicians that travel around with 5 lawyers on their hips. I don't think Floor approved or knew this question was coming.
The Dutch interviewer from FaceCulture and Floor go back a long way. He's well known & respected in the scene for his conversational style of interviewing. Tuomas, Tarja, Simone, Sharon etc., everybody has known him for a very long time. Check his Anette interview from 2007 (already!), where he asked her about Tarja. Nothing to do with any kind of "set up". What happened here is that Floor was given the opportunity to indeed exemplify dignity & class. The interviewer also showed that "respect" does not entail self-censorship and avoiding subjects that might be seen by some ppl as touchy. Ask what's on your mind & speak your mind, respectfully but also straightforward. It's the Dutch way, from both of them. Which is why these interviews are the very best as all of these great musicians have known for many years. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
I personally love the voices of all three Nightwish female singers! The music is just magical thanks to Tuomas's genius and the band members professional and talented instrumental abilities! Nightwish's music brings forth feelings and emotions that will take you on a roller coaster ride. In my opinion, Nightwish is the best band in the world, presently!!!
That’s the most sensible answer. No matter who the singer is, I believe that’s the answer that she should give anyway. It’s not about judging someone else’s voice. Or someone else’s style.
Floor gave Annette a big compliment. Those albums are very good. Also in that world they know each other. Just like a lot of people are amazed that Tarja and Floor are friends. In december 2020 Tarja invited Floor in het life stream and talked for about an hour. I like all three of them.
they are not actually friends ,people think because they did a song together that somehow makes them friends, they knew each other from touring thats it ,she was not invited to Floor's wedding or anything like that
@@nicod1361 and you dont think singing is music? Lol. Stop trying to see slights and put downs where there are none. She is right, musically those albums were awesome and that DOES include the singing.
@@nicod1361 Christ, why can't I go anywhere anymore without seeing this troll! It's getting boring and really reflects badly on Floor fans, do you not understand that? Jerks should not associate themselves with Floor.
I love the 3 of them, and Floor gave the classiest answer possible (no surprise here !). Annette had a rough time from the beginning, simply BECAUSE she was NOT Tarja. Blaming her for that was SO unfair !
Not just a fabulous singer, but a fabulous person, and well aware that Anette gained the band a massive amount of new fans, and two sublime albums (apologies in advance.)
A considered answer to an impossible question. For the record, No one could have replaced Tarja. You could have brought in a leading classical opera singer who could have hit the notes but not had the feeling behind them, or Tarja's "buttery" voice. Therion has done this once or twice. Anette Olzon was very good with a rock voice on the two albums in question, gave an artistic performance, and was usually fine on stage, but her voice was a bit weak on long tours and you got the occasional difficulty. When Floor arrived, the band had more acess to the somewhat more operatic stuff, and Floor got the glory of that. However, you will find good Anette live moments on RU-vid. It was a disgraceful controversy in the post-2005 years, with many of the fans looking bad. I have CDs and concert videos from all three singers and have got much enjoyment out of them.
Not really fair to Floor Jansen to put her in such an awkward position here. I'm not a fan of Anette Olzon because she's a "pop style" singer but she's not a BAD singer by any stretch. Just maybe not the best fit for melodic/symphonic metal overall.
Have you listened to her four different albums she has put out since 2017? Two with the dark element, one collaboration and one new metal solo album from 2021
She's a class act through and through. She's had plenty of dumb and borderline insulting interviews but she always graciously lopes across any minefields. Don't know if its still available but I'll never forget the video where an interviewer insinuated she sounded bipolar on the Wild Card ReVamp album. The look she gave him was priceless, although she was very polite about it
She was fantastic, and I loved the two Albums they did with her. Musically brilliant, and even though she was different, it never lessened the fun and feelings the music evoked. This question though is uncalled for. Anette got enough hate from the community etc, she did not deserve that. She did her best, which is all we could ever ask of anyone!
That’s right, though in my opinion there’s nothing bad to say about Annette voice or a talent… The fact of the matter is it’s not about judging the other persons ability, especially if you are a singer in the public eye yourself. That person is where they are for a reason. Because they are talented too just like you.
I don't think Thuomas writes music for a specific voice. Also before the band joined in Tarja, the demo songs weren't written "for her". Also he wrote his music for Dark Passion Play way before they chose Anette as vocalist.
Anette Olzen was amazing at what she did. When it comes to the sound of the voice it's all about the personal preferences. There was nothing wrong with her ability to sing. She was hired to give the songs different sounds. It seems like Tuomas was obviously trying to change even Tarja's style of singing in the last few albums with her. He wanted something different. Then when she decided to leave, things turned out the way they did. The Anette albums were perfect for her voice. She did awesome job with older songs too. I wish her the best.
Anette was far from amazing. Have you ever watched any of her live performances - she is very pitchy? Just watch her singing “The Poet and the Pendulum” live and compare that to Floor’s Wembley performance. Night and day difference. Floor made Anette look like a karaoke singer. Anette was also pretty self-aware about this which is the reason she vetoed Floor as her replacement singer for the duration of her pregnancy. She thought fans would love Floor more than her because Floor was a proper metal singer (very perceptive on Anette’s part).
I agree. I wasn't fond of Dark Passion play. But I don't think it had anything to do with Anette. Imaginarium, in my opinion, is one of NW's best albums.
@@gencoserpen1260 All 3 singers had their not so good times. Check her other performances. There are even the songs she actually does a better job than the other 2. I have ears, and an ability to criticize on my own.
I've seen Tarja and Anette live. Tarja has a very thick accent that isn't as apparent in the recordings and Anette isn't as powerful. I liked them both though. Floor has no downsides, she's incredible. I've always liked her. But by the time they replaced Tarja (seemingly for getting married) and Anette (seemingly for getting pregnant), I was kinda skeptical of the rest of them, like??? what's goin on here?
Are you guys watching the same video I'm watching? Perhaps if you're not a native English speaker it isn't obvious but she's taking a clear dig at Anette. She basically says "I can't comment on her singing but she was on two good albums" which is a euphemism for "she is awful but the band carried her". No class. No reason she can't just find something positive to say about her singing, just say you like her bright colourful voice or something like that, despite her technical limitations. It's pretty easy.
I remember when she joined the band, the way the fandom treated her was so toxic, at least it's gotten better but some people are still weird about her
Anette Olzen gets way too much hate for the grave sin of not being Tarja Tarunnen. Granted, Tarja's my favorite singer of all time--and I don't mean just Nightwish singers--but Anette's work with Nightwish was great. Amaranthe was a great song, I really loved Whoever Brings the Night, and Meadows of Heaven was just beautiful. Escapist is also a good one.
For me, Anette was the "christine" to Tarja's "Carlotta".Poles apart. Anette's voice was far more versatile than Tarja's. I loved both Albums that Anette recorded. However,Floor stands way ABOVE both.
When comes to new singers being brought into bands like the one Annette was brought into I see it like this: the new singer isn't better or worse than the previous one he/she is just good for different reasons
For me, Floor is by far the best choice for Nightwish. The reason for this is that Floor sings with incredible versatility. There are very, very few singers in the world who are as extremely versatile as this woman. But that doesn't mean that I automatically think Tarja or Anette are bad singers. Absolutely not, its just the fact that they doesn't manage to fill the range like Floor. Floor Jansen is unique and a phenomenon. It can hardly be described in words, you just feel it. And as an added bonus, she is also extremely likeable and warm-hearted as a human being. Simply a perfect mix.
Tuomas wrote songs that fit the singer's voice in an amazing way. There is very little point to comparing voices other than opinions on style, or live performance. Great answer Floor!
I hated every single interviewer who ever tried to get one of the Nightwish singers to give their opinion of the others. All it ever does is add fuel to a fire that doesn't even need to be lit. Anette never once said anything negative about Tarja or Floor (even though she knew to fear her vocally), Floor never said anything negative about Anette or Tarja, and Tarja has yet to say anything negative about Anette or Tarja....which is EXACTLY how it should be!
I think Annette is a great singer. She'd do great with any other band. It's just that she didn't really fit Nightwish very well because her singing style was just too different from what the fans were used to. Not her fault at all and it doesn't mean she's a bad singer.
NW chosen Annette exactly because of her voice,no question about that and makes two beautiful well selling albums with her vocals. I don't want even to think about DPP and Imaginaerum without Annette's vocals. She is a great singer.
Yes I had just compiled the figures last week....Nightwish figures for ww downloads and sales according to sounds can,billboard,other sources....Once = 2.3 million// Dark Passion Play = 2.1 million//Imaginarium= 1.6 million// Highest Hopes* compilation = Approximately 1 million (not certified)//Century Child = 800,000 // Wishmaster = 600,000// Oceanborn = 500,000// Angels Fall First = 200,000 //Endless Forms = 80,000 // Tales Of Elvenpath* = 70,000 // Human = 50,000...
Poet and the pendulum with Annette was one of my favourite albums by Nightwish, you don't need to be a soprano singer for that album because not being one was what made it unique and enjoyable.
All 3 of them, Tarja, Anette and Floor have the soprano range. What you want to express is that classical education in the voice is not needed, which is what makes Tarja's voice different and that Floor tries to sing lyrical at times.
It's like to ask what Giratina think about Dialga and Palkia the answers all the same u shouldn't mention it everyone are good in their own way I think all the nightwish singers including Marko are fantastic. Put them together In a concert would be my dream come true coz how much I love them all. One can judge but not wise to judge in public, we all have our limits our style and features. Some are good in their own way and styles. Floor is smart and good friend with Tarja and I bet they good friend with Anette also. Would u wanna say u better than ur entire classroom? Noone can say that coz everyone are good in something that u not might be. It's like not many can enjoy Pepsi or cola better than u do its all about our taste buds and our taste of music. For me I love all music and if they did in good way and good reason there no need to compare them all. They are all good. I can say all of the nightwish singers could sing Scaretale good but Anette will always be the one I prefer. When it's shudder before beautiful I always prefer Floor and when it's Ever dream ofc Tarja is the queen.
Все три вокалистки великолепны, они неповторимы, поэтому их невозможно сравнивать. Спасибо им за то, что они есть. И, конечно, Туомасу. Безусловно, гениальный композитор.
I love all three of them. I may have first hoped on with a Tarja song, but I was in the Anette era and I loved her so much despite the hate. I actually hated Floor when Anette left. It took me awhile to just try Floors songs and I fell in love almost instantly. All three of them are very special and unique in their own ways. It's why I have all three versions of Planet Hell live on my phone. But Marko himself made magic in the singing of Nightwish. I almost cried when I heard the latest Planet Hell live without him. I miss him the most
@@nicod1361 I acknowledge that she was the weakest in the live performances, but her albums were some of the best. I have so many favourite songs from Anette era and I mostly listened to her songs till Floor got her albums. It was Amaranth that truly made me a fan of Nightwish after all.
I got onto nightwish in 2016, obviously in the floor era, that woman just amazes me! I've looked back on the history but for me I just can't help but feel that she is the best for nightwish, had I listened to nightwish in the tarja era, I wouldn't have liked them. Personal choice! I know, shes awesome, but it would have gone no further. One or two songs I believe either tarja or Annette sang the best but for me it's live performances, and I just don't think you can better Floor... singing...emotion....stage presence, blah blah. Girls got it all! 👍
@@TheSkyrimInquisitor I actually prefer Annette's voice to tarya's she obviously not as "good" a singer, but I just can't listen to the operatic stuff. Just not for me, and without Floor , I'd not have given nightwish a second listen . Download 2016 in the mud!!
Interesting, I love everything Anette recorded, except the 2 Nightwish albuns. The Dark Element is one of my favorite bands today, and the solo album Shine is very good too.
The two songs from her new solo album are great as well, more like The Dark Element in musical style. I love Shine but I'm glad she is changing it up for her next solo album.
Three months later, I still love this answer from floor. And I’m very pleased to see the responses of approval by the commenters below… The only thing that strikes me about it is… I’m pretty sure many of them turn around and write other comments that knock down the other two singers in favor of floor all the time… They should try to be more like their favorite singer. No I am not telling you to like them and their style if you don’t, but you don’t have to constantly gripe about them when people are trying to make peace in reaction videos and say that they’re both or all good. There seems to be this allergy to being diplomatic amongst Nightwish fans, so maybe this is the nicest way I could have said it.
Annette was the Rocky Balboa of the group the underdog who had a lot of criticism but held her own and went the distance, If the band didn't think she had what it took or was able to do it ,we would not have had her. I may be a new fan but I hold NIGHTWISH close to my heart and learn more about the band everyday. Love all singers and the different Era's for different reasons.
I don't think the interviewer actually intended to ask that question, rather something got lost in translation, but it was an awful one all the same and Ms Jansen handled it with all the dignity and grace we've come to expect from her. As for Anette, for all the Ghost Love Scores, Wish I had a Angels, Sleeping Suns, TGSOEs, Dark Chests of Wonders, Poets and Pendulums, Storytimes, Shoemakers, and all the rest, my go-to Nightwish song is Eva. The most powerful of all power ballads, and written for her.
Nightwish's best album, Imaginaerum, along with another great, Dark Passion Play, had Anette. Floor is definitely much better but the albums they've been making with her are sorry to say, shit. Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature are boring to the death, with the only good tracks from both albums being "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "Pan." :)
I would put Shoemaker too on that small list, but yeah, the albums are very boring compared to what they used to deliver in the Olzon era. It's like Tuomas has deflated somewhat.. lol..
Anette was good and she did amazingly well on those two albums but realistically she could never live up to Tarja or Floor. She is a wonderful vocalist though.
Anette was awesome in the studio. Tuomas could make her do it until she got it right. Then they layered her voice with her own backing vocals. Floor knows she's a better singer, but can't come out and say it because it would make her look bad. It's OK, Floor. We know.
Still listening to all three singers in 2022 love the different sounds and melodies of each singer they help make a bad day better as and a dark day brighter
I first heard nightwish in 2001, so obviously I was attached to Tarja. I've seen Tarja and Anette live. And I have never understood the vitriol towards Anette. Yeah, it's uncomfy when things change. So what?? (Floor is obviously awesome ofc. First time I heard her voice was in 'Monolith of Doubt' back in the kazaa days lol)
This is part of seven years old interview. Today Tuomas Holopainen and Kai Hahto were Finland TV 1 . They talk about new virtual show. Short interview.
Why would you even ask questions like that.. if the singer answers not properly or says something that some people don't like it could ruin their careers.. this was a diqk move..
