F scammers. How about the "investment advice" comment scams hyping some investor advisor / guru? I imagine Tim has a lot of policing on those. They are tough because they start as a "seemingly" innocent post.

If a coin is an alloy and not 999/9999 pure gold. melt refers to the actual gold content in it. It’s essentially spot price renamed for non pure gold coins

91.67% of the weight of a gold American eagle is gold. However it does contain a full oz of gold. As well as 3% silver and 5.33% copper. So it’s overall weight is 1.0909TOZ whereas a gold buffalo is 9999 pure and 31.103grams total weight and purely gold.

I think because gold price is much less (if at all) contingent on organic, market-driven supply and demand, and more a lagging indicator of macro economic trends and volatile geopolitical events.

@@INTERNETVID Retail, over-the-counter sales are a tiny fraction of the entire precious metals market. The big buyers are industry and the central banks. That's where the price pressure is coming from.

The supply / demand of gold or silver at retail shops will be reflected in the premiums while spot prices are moved by central banks, industrial demand and bulk demand in Asia. Not to mention paper manipulation of the market. Note that at this time last year spot for silver was lower than now while premiums on American Silver Eagles were upwards of $20 vs. $3 now.
