Not to dismiss his skills at all. But honestly if any of us spent 1000 hours sorting through these coins I bet it's not quite that crazy, Definitely an asset. But the younger kid that shows he can read in japanese and korean (in a later video) seems like more of the savant.
its very easy to spot most silver fakes even if youve only been dealing with silver a few times. silver has a very specific feel, sound, and luster. Coins are even more obvious because they are minted to specific sizes and certain prints.
@@calebclark5615 As someone who randomly came across this channel tonight, this was hilarious cause I could see myself making the same mistake. I bet working in that store will be great for young Richard, he is clearly quite intelligent.
@@anonamatron Pretty sure this person is just using "they" in a plural sense, and even if they weren't how does it affect you in a negative way mentally/physically enough for you to call it "weirdo pronouns"? Does your heart flutter and feel like a heart attack is coming on? Genuinely curious.
@@anonamatron but honestly any response you give me is just going to tell me you're too soft for the world. Triggered by someone's pronouns. Someone you've never even met in your life. shits funny af
you can tell with a glance that harry and his crew are genuine persons. I have no interest in coins but still watched the whole video simply how cool they are. ❤
I was in there one day and they had given a customer back a few dollars because the day previous they had overpaid a little bit. They are as honest as honest can be!
I have purchased several items from Harry. I can absolutely attest to his honesty and character. It's so good to see him on YT and growing his business. I can't say enough nice things about him.
I love the way Harry & crew are honest with estimates. I have gone in other coin shops where they’ll give eyeball estimates and it’s always low. This is why after dealing with Harry, I won’t deal with anyone else (other than reputable online bullion dealers).
I agree. No bull-hockey about the end the world stuff.. As soon as people start talking about getting silver or gold because the end of the world or system is ready to hit, I can't take 'em seriously...
yea I don´t know. He was asking about an offer for the greek coin and was told oh we have one that is very similar here and yours is actually nicer (i.e. worth more). He offered about 100$. If you pay attention the one they where selling had a price sticker for 305$ and a couple cents. I get that a shop needs to make money but offering call it 30% does not seem very trustworthy. Even if these fluctuate quite a bit and are hard to sell I would expect at least like 50%, if they sell normally like 60% or 70% up to 80% if the price is pretty stable too.
It's always a good idea to be upfront with a dealer about what you're wanting to do. Asking for their offer is very different from asking for an appraisal for insurance or for dividing an estate. Many dealers are very generous with their time, but don't abuse the privilege. If you're just going to sell your coins online and want help with pricing it's usually not cool to ask for expertise for free.
Most people spend time looking up coins before they even head to a shop. The last time I sold some I made double of what I was expecting from said coins I took in.
@@kameljoe21 I personally wouldn't presume to speak for 'Most people '. When set up at coin shows I'm sometimes the only dealer showing and/or buying foreign coins. Many people do not know anything about grading and especially grading foreign coins. And, then even if they do and they know how to look up valuations, they may easily not know whether they are finding accurate or reliable information. And, as I mentioned there are different appraised values for different purposes.
@@mikebarushok5361 Generally people who are not collectors themselves will look up some or all of their coins online before they even step foot in to a coin shop. Generally these people know about how much their collection is worth and generally they are looking to off load them. You have 3 types of people. Those who inherited or found said collection and want to sell it off for the best amount of money (these people tend to have an idea how much said collection is worth from what information they can find on line) New collectors who know a little bit and are looking to trade up or expand their collection. Then you have the last group of people who are collectors and or investors who do not care what coins they have and only care about getting that last coin for their collection or selling off their collection to make money. Investors are the ones who know a lot of about the type of coins they buy and their value. The know when to buy and when to sell. j Generally those who sell off are in that first class to which I was speaking of. I on the other hand do not deal in coins and sell off any thing of value I find/buy. I sold off an entire collection that someone I know spent a life time collecting. Made a damn good amount of money. The only value I see in coins is their raw value as collector value is subjective to the markets and those who collect.
Wow Harry is so humble and wants to learn from the younger employees. It’s so sweet to see how open and honest he is about it. All these guys are awesome! 😊
We live in Central Oregon, everytime we go to Portland we go to Harry's. When we lived in Portland we went to Harry's at least once a week, at least. Coin shops all over but if you search coin shops pretty much anywhere in Oregon Harry's is nearly always at the top, for a very good reason!
I'm not really into coins, but apparently The Algorithm is sophisticated enough to suggest videos I will enjoy, regardless. This was a lovely video and it warms my heart to see such seemingly genuine people discuss a topic. You do your hobby and the wider audience a favor by featuring this kind of thing. Bravo
I'm happy that Richard has found a way to put his special interest to good use. Good for him. Such attention to detail, I bet he's great to have around.
@@Patrick-yh5yd ....what's that got to do with the autistic guy in the video?? You're "that guy" Patrick. You're just commenting to see yourself typing. Nothing about my comment had to do with the price of silver.
What an amazing sales team you have Harry! *Congrats* on your newest associate! What an impressive and knowledgeable young man Richard is. Keep up the good work with best wishes for continued success! Good job, SD. Thank you!
I like how other people call mistakes tuition, too. Any time I delve into a new investment, I call the early stage of learning "the tuition stage", because, it often costs money to start understanding the patterns of the instrument.
The difference between a "Coin" and a "Round". A coin is actual currency, and in a last case scenario- is actually a redeemable currency for the face value that is printed on the coins face, in the country that issued the coin. A round, is just an ounce of silver melted into a round casting shape. There's a sales tax on rounds, as it is considered property. Coins do not have sales tax, as they are considered currency.
Depends on the country. The melt price of UK kilo coins actually dropped below face value for a while last year and the bank of England stated the face value was only "symbolic" and banks would not accept them as currency. I couldn't care less about their legal status. But I do like the security features.
Metal detecting is the best hobby the chance to find something incredible is always there finding hammered coins never gets old even if the coins are 😂 the buzz from finding medieval or Roman or Celtic is unbelievable only fellow Detectorists know that feeling
The guy in the black shirt likely save them a boat load of money the way he spots fakes so quickly, I would almost say he is gifted in spotting fakes, he has an incredible sense of detail if that's worded correctly.
I always miss your visit to Harry's by like a day :( ! I think Harry and Adrian and Rich are top notch with no BS. They treat everyone with fairness and slap down some great knowledge, if you ever happen to ask any questions. Thank you for the video! Very Cool talk!
My husband and I recently visited Harry’s shop for the first time because of your videos Silver Dragon! He was very knowledgeable and kind. We will definitely be back to purchase from him again. Hopefully more fractional gold will be available but it’s hard to find lol.
I don't collect coins, I don't know why this even came up in my suggestions. But, I really enjoyed it and I hope all the success for the crew at Harry's, they all seem so genuine and kind.
The precious metals market is going to boom and this would determine how stable one can be in the future when the bank fails, bank notes lose its values, I'm still stacking raw golds and you should do same instead of having your money sleeping in the bank get it to good use.
This metals are the best assets to hold on to at the moment, volatility in both cryptocurrency and bank notes are very hight, sophisticate your selves with metals to avoid lose ends.
Owning a precious metal is not as hard as people say it is, search for Glen Cameron Henry on the internet and get all the guidance you need to aquire as much as you need.
That shop is incredible. Harry is the nicest guy ever! I have been to almost every coin shop in the area and Harry's by far is the best and well worth the drive.
This video showed up on my main youtube page and im loving it. People are so varied in their passions. The staff at the shop are so lovely and knowledgeable, its a delight to get to experience this if only through youtube.
I know nothing about this stuff , but straight away the sincere and humble way in which they deal with you . Its a thing of time once known . Brilliant knowledge and absolutely know there stuff . Im fascinated by it all and how you guys over there in the USA do business .
I love how the gentleman in the black shirt calling out the fakes used an eagle's "majesty" as a criterion for genuineness. That's hilariously brilliant! It's videos like these that make me really regret selling my entire collection (it fit in a large briefcase, I'd been collecting since age 8 and I was in my early 20s when I offloaded them) of rare and valuable coins for money to buy OxyContin tablets. $50 CAD per 80mg pill adds up fast, especially when you need two a day to just not be sick and 4-6 to really get a nod going. 11 years off the pills and counting, now. Maybe I'll get back into collecting. After all, there's never been a better time to solidify your liquid assets than now. I sold the whole briefcase full of uncommons, rares, and even some very old coins and even rare, old, very good condition banknotes (all told, the coins were worth about 1800 to 2000 collectively) with a few 1/10th oz gold and 1oz silvers scattered into the mix for, drumroll, please... 400 dollars. 😭 Don't do drugs, kids.
I started stacking in mid-March in Kansas City and my first purchase was 5 - 1 oz buffalos .9999 fine for $3 over spot. There is no way I could beat that deal today.
Interesting! I think I have that same "Indo-Scythian" coin..... bought it in Pakistan near the Khyber Pass in the mid-1960's. Had it appraised by a historian of that era at $50.00 in the early 1970's. Apparently a hoard of the same coins were discovered since, and the value now is next to worthless! IF it is the same coin I have!!
I don't buy from SD Bullion anymore. They ship me tubes missing the foam pieces and i received knicked and scratched up coins. All customer service did was offer me $20 for the inconvenience which is unacceptable to me. No problems with Apmex or JM Bullion. If u can't make it to my local coin shop then I'll order from those two online dealers.
I wish our coin shop was this friendly I laid 40 coins down at our coin shop and they took roughly enough time to add face values up and told me I "congratulations you have $4.38 in change!" I pick up my collection and laughed at them walking out. 😢
They gave you face value. If your coins were older and had precious metals--they would have given you intrinsic value. And if they are collectible and rare--you would receive numismatic value.
Great video, thx! Have said it before, but have to say it again… Harry’s shop is the “gold standard” (pun intended) for how a coin shop should look, function and treat customers. Well done, guys!
Doesn’t really matter if you are DCA imo. But the main variable is why are you stacking? If you’re just trying to flip then yeah, watching the price drop sucks. If you’re buying long term and believe the value of silver is a lot higher than 26$ then a couple bucks difference isn’t really a big deal.
I love just outside of Vancouver, have no idea what's around me for good coin shops (never looked) but if I get my hands in my collection again on day, I wanna drive down to yall at Harry's Coin Shop. Your enthusiasm and honesty will make the drive worth it
Wow what a great place, they're all so patient and willing to help. The way they explain things is fantastic and so interesting. I'm not even a collector but have always found coins and paper money interesting but these guys certainly go the extra mile.
What are your thoughts on the $5 and $10 US Mint commemoratives? They are around a quarter and a half ounce respectively. They are sovereign coins but available at low premiums.
@@MrDavidknigge I'm still very new to this and don't have much experience. IMO, they look real nice, but I prefer 9999 fine. Personally, I would get them because they look nice first, stacking gold second. Might be a good question to pose to silver dragons, silver seekr, 2 is 1, or others.
@@MrDavidknigge I’d steer clear of those. For some reason people do not like those. I’ve seen many people and dealers post them at spot trying to get rid of them and people still don’t want them. You can buy them but just remember it may be hard to resell them later on.
Wow. Not the rabbit hole I expected to go down. I have no real interest in coins but into fossils and rocks. Those ancients coins caught my eye! This video and how all three of those employees handled all of this, had my full attention and respect. Absolutely fascinating. Those two youngins in that business have one heck of a career coming if they are this knowledgeable at their ages. Subscribed!
I know absolutely zero about coins, silver and gold... and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this video. Great style of shooting. Great subjects to hear from.
This restriction in refiner sources, looks to me to be an attempt to drive gold and silver prices up. This stops a mass adoption of metals as "money" driven by fomo, if another series of banks go under.
New guy Richard has very deep shoes to fill if he attempts to be as knowledgeable as the owner and Adrian. Adrian doesn't look old enough to shave but he is extremely knowledgeable & pleasant young man. Keep wondering if Adrian had parents that either owned a coin store or were avid coin collectors.
Everyone, my question is using silver to buy, how is change 'due back' going to work? 1. If the place we use it, can not give change? 2. When gets worse, those with gold and silver use that, but need change and there is no change. Will this be when bartering comes into play for what the other party would take as equal value??? Thank you to anyone that can reply.
@@juliayelle2942 believe change is the reason you want to own some small increments like quarters, dimes or even individual grams of gold or silver. Even a gram of gold may be $70.-90. but a gram of silver worth similar to a dime, $2.-4. or so. I actually have some grains of silver that come laminated on like a baseball card or playing card, and they are engraved “1 grain .999 silver” ; you can get these for around a $1. each. These are quite tiny as there are 480 grains to a Troy ounce, and 15.432 grains to a gram. They are very cute little tiny bars of .999 silver. Maybe use grains to buy a soda or candy bar, lol!
