Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other officials provided details about Hurricane Milton and conditions in the state Thursday morning after the storm moved through the area.

DeSantis is a leader. He takes command, gets involved, and doesn't spew politics. He does his job...very well. He doesn't speak in circles, pass the blame, cry disinformation to cover failure, and makes his points clearly without eye-rolling, staff talking in his ear, and word salads. He is the real deal. He doesn't have to fake it, like some people we know.

If Desantis truly cared about the citizens of Florida he wouldn’t have passed insurance reform that strips the rights away from insureds to be able to collect on their policies. Now policyholders have to pay their lawyer which means homeowners will never be made whole.

My point is, Desantis on several occasions has made it seem as though Florida doesn't need federal money for recovery and on the other hand, that the federal government has failed to assist.

NC doesn’t get Hurricanes every year with the same consistency that Florida does so naturally a bad storm would cause a lot more devastation in a state like that. A category 1 storm devastated NY a few years ago, because NY has never had any reason to be prepared for such a storm

Absolute requirement for being the FEMA director should be he/she be from Florida who has worked with the post-hurricane recovery assistance. & upper leadership of FEMA. Same for the other upper leadership in FEMA. Maybe there should be different leadership responsible for developing disaster recovery and assistance protocols in different areas of the country.
