Oh man. That checkmate brings back memories! I had an ‘86 with very similar gelcoat and a 2.5 merc on it. I miss my starflight. It was like an aquatic go kart.

1st off.. Thoroughly enjoy the content!! I do have a question or better yet looking for advice... I see you cover a lot of water in the Checkmate.. Would you recommend that style of boat for island hopping up around Tampa and Fort Myers?? I am in the market for one but all you see around here are flats and bay boats.. Tkx Kc

I had one it’s a pretty good boat until it gets real choppy. It’s not a deep v like a super boat or progression so it tends to pound a bit. I never got wet though. On my bay I was able to live in the shallow water and stay away from wind blown chop and confused powerboat wakes. I don’t know how the water is in Tampa and fort Meyers.
