Hurricane Milton left widespread destruction on the Gulf Coast of Florida and more damage to some barrier islands. Storm surges flooded some communities with torrential rains of up to a foot or more rain, leading to hundreds of rescues. Milton also spawned a deadly outbreak of tornadoes, with more than three dozen twisters reported in the state. At least 12 people have been reported killed, including six people at a retirement community because of a tornado. Watch the latest in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. where i'm from, we experienced a crazy typhoon that caused so much destruction. 3 years later, when everything was starting to go back to normal, an even bigger typhoon once again destroyed everything. i can't even imagine 2 hurricanes within 2 weeks. praying for everybody who is injured, who have passed & those who are left to restart🙏🏽

Earlier today I thought that the damage was far less than it was. I guess I was just so focused on Tampa, where my grandson lives, that I wasn't looking very far and wide. Also, the reports that Milton lost quite a bit of power once onshore.

Every home in fl should have a weather radio. We knew it was gonna be a huge storm, especially when you're on the back of it the rain. We lost power and had a couple of trees come down. RIP to the lost ones. Thank God it's over.

Not everyone can leave. If you have the money to travel, the gas stations might be out of gas. Then the traffic so bad, you might as well take cover in your own house. Then there are the disabled and those with many animals. It’s hard for a lot of the most vulnerable people to leave on such short notice. Don’t be so quick to judge.

I live in Canada, just a block from a lakeside park and sometimes we get very high winds and rain being blown sideways, big trees swaying towards our apartment building, terrible thunder and lightning, power outages and it terrifies me. Can't imagine how frightening a hurricane would be. My thoughts are with all who are returning home to 'pick up the pieces' and who have lost loved ones to this devastating act of Mother Nature. Arrested most likely. It’s literally a crime to be homeless now. Throw them in jail and the for profit prisons get paid per head Fed $$$ via the State.

Why haven't we started making masonry bricks that are curved so that when they are built together, they form a cyllinder instead of the square design that is... notoriously weak against wind and other forces, like storm surges?

What do you expect living on the coast? I've been living in Florida 4 years even I'm aware of hurricane season. The fact that people still decide to live on the coast is beyond me. I don't feel bad because they choose to live there knowing we get 3-4 months of hurricanes coming our way. They gonna rebuild and go thru the same thing next year

All these ppl that atayed behind after being told to evacuate now complaining that they need rescuing is just ridiclous, resources being used on them when they could be used elsewhere. Ppl just never seem to listen do they..
