When I saw that it was only (and yes, I know that word is crazy now) a Cat 3, I was relieved. It would have been SO much worse if it stayed at Cat 5. When that meteorologist cried about how fast it intensified, my heart dropped.
I called the FEMA help line. It took me less than 10 minutes to get help applying for disaster assistance cuz I have no wifi to do it online. People not getting help aren't looking for it.
Invest in first responders ? They get paid well, they do a great job ! We need to invest in better infrastructure and climate change issues ! There lies the problem

Much as he deserves criticisms for many policies and actions, even the weather forecasters didn’t get it 100% correct. The hurricane was expected to hit Tampa direct hit as of Saturday, but it actually hit 12 miles south of Tampa, and part of the 🌀actually dissipated before hitting landfall. So despite the sheer volume of damage, it was looking much worse and slightly further north. Weather isn’t that precisely predictable. (But people often complain if they are evacuated and then *not* hit, so it’s hard to win.

My God, hearing the beautiful CNN reporter say "My God" is just what pediatricians and cardiologists ww (worldwide) etc needed to hear. Prayers for those in storms pathway.
I wish I was more like the beautiful reporter speaking for the people with those talking points but I think most of us have to go around corners and fences to speak out on certain issues for innocents because noone gave us any talking points....so I guess it cant ever be...
@@IcariumGaming I thought it would hit harder based on it dropping to 4 and then going back up to 5 while making landfall sooner than expected. I guess there was enough wind shear to force it to calm in the final hours before reaching land.
Why you need a high lift 4wd with snorkel kit, air boat on the roof rack. Completely justifiable expense. Codes need be revised to require a lifeboat for every residence. A canoe to save you.

The people in the nursing home were not in an evacuation zone. If it had been than people would have assisted out. But they stayed because severe flooding was not expected in that area. They had never seen flooding like it they did this time. But they were rescued. This is what often happens in disaster zones. The predictions for where flooding or some other hazard may occur are not perfect. And this area hasn't had a direct hit from a hurricane in over 100 years. Who remembers that?? Do you understand better now?
CNN should tell their reporters that while I am sure they are gorgeous, people are not watching to see their faces, keep the camera on the damage of the storm.
Where's Congress? Speaker Johnson will not recall Congress and says "calls for FEMA funding is premature" with more storms coming and still a month of hurricane season left.
Forgive them a little they're all at home on the campaign trail, that might sounds hollow, but it really is hard work plus there is about a month's worth of funding left so if they haven't come back by then then we should be mad! 🙂

Stop using federal taxes to pay for people’s costly lifestyle choices. Insurance companies know this is a recurring drain that is only getting worse. If you want to live in areas that constantly get impacted like this, then take responsibility for your choice.
@@reason6835 As you know, there are options between the extremes. Florida has no "high ground", but it might still be wise to be above 50 feet and at least a mile or two from the beach. You'll still get hammered, but you might not lose everything

They have to prepare for the worst. If Tampa had gotten a direct hit it would have been worse. Would you prefer they told people it probably won't be that bad and end up with many more dead? They can't ever be certain about every aspect of a storm, they're not wizards.
As Global Warmig becomes worse and these extreme weather events more common, it's probably a good idea to keep a flotation device in you car like you would in a boat.

Don't listen to the GOP. $750 is a first, immediate payment for things needed. More is available as need be. Before now, *no money* was paid out until everything was assessed. This is a great improvement over that.

Trump gave people rolls of paper towels and they cheered when he was President. Biden gives them money so they can go buy their own paper towels if that is what they actually need and the same people that cheered Trump are crying about it.
My issue with voting red this election is that it feels like a support of Trump's lies about immigrants and his general hate-speak. I cannot justify the division he creates.
