With 1,000 people a day moving to Florida, finding affordable housing remains one of the most challenging concerns for residents - especially here in South Florida. CBS News Miami's Jim DeFede talks to former state senator Jeff Brandes, who runs the Florida Policy Project, which has been exploring solutions that include the role of vouchers and something called upselling.

The politicians say they eill get big taxes from huge apartment buildings.. But we the people are still being asked for more and more property taxes each year? Where is that money going?

stop building for rent, start building for sale, the American dream is not to rent is to buy

Yes 👏🏻 unfortunately I have witnessed discrimination. with many management asking that you have in your bank account 3 time the rent amount or you just don’t qualify 😢 . We are all human, definitely need to change the laws on landlords raising rents , live in n.y.c 20 years in one apartment. Moved to Florida and realized people are always moving in and out 😢 at 54 I’m not looking forward to move constantly. Tenants should have rights

Get rid of short term rentals. Put them in the hotel areas not in residential areas

Landlords won’t take vouchers

Landlords are greedy. Many have already paid their mortgages. Better to have a clean tenant that pays in time.

Vouchers=taxpayers pay for others' housing. Oh no.

Are you against "school choice" vouchers? That's how taxes work, you pay into it and get a benefit or service. You are not "paying for others housing".

The public is already taxed for education. School vouchers allow parents to spend those dollars where they do the most good for their children. The expanding housing vouchers would only increase taxes and inflation while funneling money to property developers and degrading existing neighborhoods.
@jro7815

@@45FAZER2 How does “it degrade existing neighborhoods” and “funnel money into developers”? I can use the same argument for school vouchers. It actually takes money from public schools to enrich private and charter schools while they give sub par education to students. Btw, taxes do not cause inflation and in the State of FL big corporations pay little to no taxes while the individuals, consumers and small businesses pay the bills. Although it’s not the best solution, the State could easily pay for housing vouchers by taking away all the tax cuts and incentives DeSantis has given to the couple Mega Corps that have donated to his campaign (public information btw).

Flippers and investors remain THE issue. The market in south east Florida could crash 50 percent and you would still be in the biggest bubble in history. Stop flippers and investors from hoarding and controlling the market.

it's not an "affordable housing crisis" - it's a fiat money, dollar value crisis. When the dollar goes down, gold goes up, have you looked at the price of an ounce of gold? The tax payer pays for housing subsidies, the tax payer pays for housing vouchers. Robust means raising your taxes. When the value of the dollar goes up the housing prices will go down as will gold. Taxes for socialism doesn't work. And oh by the way, look at the cash we just sent Ukraine.

I would rather send money to Ukraine than warm up to Putin. By extension your helping Iran, China, North Korea. Just keep whining about Ukraine in the world of Geopolitics. The United States will never be isolationist. The War in Ukraine is doing what it should. NATO countries are spending more on defense so America doesn't have to prop them up as much. Germany is beefing up its air force. Poland spends a lot on defense already.

@@camdudzinski5206 and oh by the way, biden’s son worked for Ukraine so the current so called President owes that country back for the the money they gave his son - make no mistake - Putin has no say so as to how this country runs!, the Muslims and Jews do!!!
