I have dicovered your chanell couple of days ago and been binge watching it :)and enjoying every moment. Living in the North West of Englad we dont get all those beautiful exotic shells (we do get a huge tulips -at least that what I think they are) but we get a beautiful sea glass. Greetings from the Great Britain and thank you for taking me on an adventure with you :) x
Hello beach friend from across the pond! I always appreciate how lucky I am to live where I do, and I'm so glad I can share my walks and finds with others that can't be here. I've found about 2 pieces of sea glass in the year of beach exploring down here. All the other glass is junk, but my husband keeps it and melts it down so at least we use it for something. Winter is coming, which means hopefully the shells will be coming too :) I'm so happy you found my channel and thank you so much for watching!
I think you picked a great beach. My husband and I frequent John D MacArthur state park. It’s a beautiful beach. Similar to Bowmans beach where you have a long walk over a boardwalk over water to get to the beach. I have found a lot of beach glass there. That’s where I found the scotch bonnets I have. It’s always hit and miss though as you know. 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚
I couldn't find a lot of info on shelling on the East Coast - but like you said a lot of it is luck and hit or miss, so there's no guarantees anyway. John D MacArthur State Park sounds lovely. I love that Bowman's Boardwalk! I'm still feeling lucky that we found some different goodies when we beach combed over by you, but no scotch bonnet. Yet. I have a bunch of shells I'm still looking for. I will persevere! Thanks so much for watching!
Broken or not that sundial is beautiful and that tiny yellow leafy jewel box was so bright. Love seeing all of the new beaches. Thanks for sharing your trip..
Hi, I am a seashell collector and I love watching your videos since I cannot visit Florida. All the shells you find I have plus many unusual and rare ones such as the Junonia.
Oh wow - the Junonia. One of these days I'll find one. I keep the pieces but I'd be over the moon if I got to find my own one day. Thanks for watching my beach visit!
I found pieces of a Junonia in a shell pile after a big summer storm. I have a whole one because my husband bought one for me on our 1st anniversary. He's such a sweetie!
I want to say that we have done We have picked up tons of sea shells today all morning and where can I find more bigger ones like the ones that you are showing on RU-vid thanks for sharing
Hey, so i JUST recently found u, but LOVE UR stuff... so im wondering have u ever been to the east COAST (of usa, not just Florida) im asking bc i live on an island off Massachusetts and LOVE beach combing IN GENERAL and we have so many amazing things to find here... BESIDES the obvious beautiful shells in general but my favorite is the beautiful puprle "wampum" (wampanoag native currency in olden days) but we also have sharks teeth, petrified clams, and a place called marble beach... thing about these places is i DOUBT youd find them ever anywhere on list of beaches to visit but so beautiful and fun!!! U make me wanna go to Florida 🙂
I actually have never been shelling outside of Florida. I didn't know these amazing things existed! I would visit the beach in NJ and that's why we moved to the area we did here in FL, but once I started combing the beaches over here I was hooked! I will likely not travel that far to go beach combing, however I have enjoyed some videos for both Plum Island Sea Cabin and Solace in Shelling - they are located in the NE of the US, so they tend to find the same type of things you're mentioning. And thank you so much for watching!!! 🙏🏼
“Beachy business”. You crack me up. 😀 Hope to answer a couple of questions for you since I grew up going to this beach back in the 70’s. Blowing Rocks is absolutely stunning to watch at high tide. Wind makes it better. Also, not the time to snorkel but we got caught a couple of times. More rocks in the water to find critters. A lot more sand beyond the rocks you see as most shells get broken there. That is definitely a green star turban. Was hoping you’d find a bonnet but a little more rare at that beach because of the rocks. And yes, olive city on the east coast. They are everywhere like your fighting conchs. You found a cowrie! Never found one. Lived here my whole life. Good for you! Happy shelling.
Ok, turns out that cowrie was a coffee bean trivia. Live and learn! How wonderful to have grown up there. I have a lot of catching up to do - I’ve only lived here 5 years!
I so much love your videos. What beautiful, different shells. Thanks for sharing & making my day. I am counting down the days of coming to Florida & getting my shelling fix.
My channel is a great resource for figuring out which beach you might want to go to! The first time I visit a new beach, I give a little "overview" about the parking and facilities, probably because that's the kid of thing I would want to know :) I hope you have fun planning while you're waiting! Thank you for watching!
I'm new to shelling, and a new subsciber to your channel. I L.O.V. E your channel! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! I am still trying to identify the difference between a serif and a auger, a bay scallop and a calico scallop, etc. Do any of your videos explain these shells that are so much alike but how to tell the difference? Thanks again for the amazing videos! My 7 year old is already loving to identify shells after watching your videos;)
I do periodically show the different between two similar shells if I've gotten some recent questions about them. This video is from quite a while ago, but eventually you'll find the videos that have those comparisons but I'll make a note to show these in the future!
Those waves hitting the sandstone formations seem like they would bash the shells into bitty pieces.. The shell at the 6:06 mark looks like a beat up Lion's paw.. Your word for the day, He's CUTE ! !" Thanks for sharing & Yes, they are Cute..
I'm not as good with my East Coast shell pieces as I am the West Coast shell pieces so I don't know if I ever figured out what that piece was. It was so fun through seeing a totally different beach with totally different waves. I'm surprised any shells survive that surf!
Blowing rocks is the BEST place to snorkel around here - saw a sea turtle who was nearly the size of me (I’m short but still) it was simply majestic. I just hovered over her for so long and floated out to sea with her until she took a breath. Lots of olives here often. Another great snorkel spot is peanut island (west palm beach) off of blue heron blvd.
Really loved this walk!! I think I found my new favourite shell, the Bitter Sweet. It reminds me of caramel which I love. You are the Olive Whisperer. Love seeing the limestone rocks and the whole area. It would be so cool to see the water shoot up 50 feet. You’re a great teacher during your walks and it’s great to learn from you. Thank you!!😊🐬
I LOVE those bittersweet clams! Maybe because I don't get to find them over here, but I think they're so pretty! They remind me of caramel too 🤗 This is definitely a beach I'd like to visit again. I'd love to see blowing rocks in it's fully glory as well!
I can do that! I happened to explain the difference in a past video, so you can just watch! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4x7GyKyBjg.html
@@SWFBeachLife perfect! I had an idea of how they might be different. That snippet confirmed it for me. Thanks to you there are many shells I can now identify on sight! 😁🥰
Some shells are formed right in the egg casing that the mama shell lays so they start out their life as itty, bitty snails. Others will float around a while until they get big enough to sink to the sea floor and start to grow their shells. I have collected a few egg casings and I'll open them up in a future video. Now the things inside the sand dollar are Aristotles lantern. They are basically teeth if you can believe it. I showed them and the legend in a pervious video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6EWKKhTgyvE.html
I finally got some acid to work on my boxes of shells. Can you give me the amounts of water to acid again. You also said which to add first. Acid to water or water to acid. Thanks. I am so excited.
Yay! Make sure you use rubber gloves and a mask - you DO NOT want to breathe in any of that lingering air. It's 1 part acid to 3 parts water - so depending on how much you want to make, just use that formula. And you always add the acid to the water. It's so fun! Be careful and I hope you have fantastic, gorgeous shells when you're done!
your so lucky. I was looking for some nice shells to put my air plants in and saw a few nice shells and they all suddenly grew on me.im a shelladdict .i was an avid gardener and already disabled .then one day i was sat on a stool bending and reaching and next day so much pain. had fractured 12 vertebra in my spine. had to battle it alone for whole of lockdown started on air plants because I can't bend, can't lift barely walk. air plants led to shells and the rest is history.hence my new hobby has taken over my house. love your videos.its a breath of fresh air for me when I can't get out. thanks a bunch
My husband found a small coconut seed that was a little beat up. He took an air plant and put it in the middle of it and it looks so good! There is something about combining the things that nature makes all together. Your hobby sounds like it bring you a lot of joy. Keep at it and thank you for coming to the beach with me!
Hey there again beach friend…have you ever tried to shell at night with a flashlight? I did one time at my beach and I found some good ones! Just a suggestion! 🐚🐚🐚🐚
@@fouraces1949 I have been waiting for turtle season to end (10/31) and we are going! I have not tried it yet but winter has some seriously low tides (I have a negative low-tide excursion planned) so I can't wait to see what I find. Only a few more weeks to wait. Thank you for the suggestion! XOXOXO
Have you hunted for fossil shells? There are parks in Sarasota on river banks that have shell paved lots with lots of pretty fossil shells. Check them out! Another venue for shell lovers.
I live on the east coast in England they call it the jurassic coast as lots of fossils can be found. You should see the golden ammonites but your shells are so pretty and I love that you care about the smallest creatures that live in these shells
Hello from across the pond! I've seen really neat videos of the mudlarking that goes on over there! I'm lucky to live where I do; so close to so many amazing beaches with really neat things to explore. Yesterday we found a little lizard on the beach - very far away from any fresh water (poor little guy). My husband let him hitchhike for about a mile and we gave him some fresh water and let him be on his way. We named him and everything! He'll show up in a video in a few weeks. We love the little critters as much as we do the shells! Thank you for watching my video!
@@SWFBeachLife I to found a young gull chick and after making sure he was out harms way went looking for dead fish to feed him l love people who take the time out to care for creatures who may not be all cute and furry. We love crabs and snails and the weird little things too thank you for your reply and best wishes
The rock formations were so pretty! I hope to see that beach one day. So different than any beach I've ever visited, which isn't many. Love to see all your found goodies at the end. I've yet to figure out how you can ever put anything back down? I would be scooping up EVERYTHING! But you live in Florida and get to visit beachside much more often. So I kinda understand. No, I really dont!!🤣🤭
Oh believe me, there are still some shells I absolutely can not resist! I go to the beach and say I won't collect anything, next thing you know I have a big shell to hold the smaller shells. I can't keep them all but I sure do keep a bunch!
I think you might also love the crystals rocks I find here in Missouri... believe me, I never leave empty handed when I go to the creeks! My problem is I just love all of nature and it's beauty! God is the master artist 🎨!! I haven't figured out how to send pics when I respond to you, but as soon as I do, I will send you some amazing pics of my crystal's. And if your interested, I'll send you some to collect? Just let me know?
They are beautiful aren't they? That one I found on this day apparently wasn't technically a cowrie, but a trivia, which looks like a baby cowrie to me! I was psyched to find different shells than the ones I normally find over here on the West Coast.
I recently shared my shells collection since so many people had been asking: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Afy0jl0smpE.html And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mf5SVm8m5n8.html I have a few more projects I'd like to tackle - i just need to find the time!!!
I’m so happy to have found your page, thanks for all you do! I’m in Fort Myers too. I just spent the weekend at Marco Island and found so many great shells.
I was going to go to Tigertail last weekend but we ended up staying local. With your input maybe I'll make a trip there next weekend! I'm happy you found my channel too!!! Thank you for watching!
SWF Beach Life We also went on the Cape Romano/Shelling tour with Florida Adventures & Rentals through the 10 thousand island area and we told them what we were looking for (sand dollars!) and they were so accommodating and brought us to a great spot and even helped find shells for us to keep! They do boat shuttles to Kice island too for great shelling!
Cee Bee I did a shell tour last March for my birthday. It was a lot of fun but we didn’t find as many goodies as we thought we would. I’d definitely like to try a different one. Heck, I’ll probably end up going with all the tours at least once 🤣 Thanks for the great tip! Sounds like they’re a good company to tour with!
I recently shared my shell collection since so many people had been asking what I do with my shells: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Afy0jl0smpE.html And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mf5SVm8m5n8.html And I just finished a sea shell picture frame video that I hope to post next week ☺️
I don't actually "do" all that much with my shells. Mostly I keep them in glass jars, vases and lanterns. I showed my collection in a past video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Afy0jl0smpE.html Then, I put some shells to the side to sell and others to do projects with. I've managed to complete 2 projects thus far. A shell mirror: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mf5SVm8m5n8.html And a shell photo frame: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h9UIvqlOzgM.html I have lots of ideas I just need to find more time!
Yea! I’ve never found anything like that before! Also, congrats on your first cowry! I’ve never found one yet, but I might next summer! I’ll be 13 by then, which I’m excited to turn 13 in February! Then I’ll be a teenager!
Beautiful beach, and such a fun haul! I am a sucker for small shells, minis, and especially micro shells, so I got a kick out of that teeny little (clam?) that was on your finger when you found the cerith shell at 10:33 🥰🐚 ~Caroline
Snails are like other critters and get their color and shape from their parents. Most shells start from eggs and they become just a little bit bigger and stronger each day. Snails repair their shells by continuing to grow around any breaks or cracks they may suffer. You can tell by the lines in the shells. It's like they glue their own shells back together, but they are building more shell instead of using glue.
@SWF Beach Life Beautiful! I really enjoyed this! I didn't know Florida had any beaches with rocky formations on them. If you go to the bottom of southeast FL, you will probably find more sundial shells. My sister and I went to Virginia Key Beach Park a few times years ago and we found maybe about 4-5 of them there!
Thank you so much for the tip! I've added this to the list of beaches to check out when we head back East! Wasn't Coral Cove Park awesome? It was so beautiful - I wish we could have stayed longer to explore but the weather had different ideas!
Follow up: I went to this beach two days in a row and all I can say is WOW!! So many shells. Olives galore, calico scallops, lightening welks, clams, limpets, chestnut turbans, wentletraps, worm shells, ceriths, slippers, cowries, moonsnails, scotch bonnets and others. I had more luck and better shelling than at Captiva. Thank you again for the tip!
I didn't find any but I didn't have a good chance to get in the water either. We found a lot of them at Caspersen Beach in Venice: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4x7GyKyBjg.html
Thank you for your awesome videos! I recently visited Longboat Key & found many beautiful shells I can now identify thanks to you! Always look forward to Mondays!
Wow! Great finds! Your inspiring me to get out and go shelling. Usually the olives I find the tops are broken off. I have never found a sun dial so that was awesome. I did find a nice scotch bonnet a couple weeks ago at a beach in North Palm Bch. I need to get out there. I’m glad you and your hubby had a nice visit over here and I look forward to when me and my hubby can get over to the west coast again. Thx for the great video. Keep on shelling!!!! 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚
I'm glad you enjoyed our visit as much as we did! If we ever go back East, do you have a shelling beach you would recommend? I did "okay" researching on my own but having some inside info from a local would be amazing! Thank you so much for watching!!
Love your voice and enthusiasm! Love your shell knowledge. Just got back from shelling in Texas. Loved it and got me excited for shells. Thank you for all the tours of the beaches
Unfortunately I have no sea glass beach recommendations. Someone said they find it in the Miami area, however I can't verify that and it's a bit of a drive from Jupiter. Sorry! Maybe one of these days I'll discover the magical glass beach over on the East Coast!
Love your finds and the scenery was spectacular! Really excited to see the cowrie. If you're looking for scotch bonnets try Navarre Beach on the panhandle. I watch another RU-vidr who searches that beach and finds them pretty regularly.
The scenery was incredible! Didn't look anything like I expected. Navarre is on the travel list! It's a little bit of a drive so I'll probably spend a few days up there. I'd like to try out Destin too! Thank you for watching!!!
So cool that you found a Cowrie shell! Those little bright yellow and orange shells are totally awesome. I am always so excited to watch what you find. I am dreaming of my next shelling adventure.
I remember finding my first olive at Panama City beach. I still love finding olive shells and get excited everytime you find one too. I can’t wait to find my first cowrie.
I have been on vacation for a couple of months now on Florida’s east coast and been using your videos as a point of reference fir shelling. Going to try this place today!
Yes I sure do see coquinas on the beach! From time to time I'll show them in the video or I'll pick up a couple of the tiny shells. It's fun to watch them bury themselves. Thank you for watching my beach visit!
I sure does look like it might have been a kittens paw but those I find those all the time and I don't think that was one of them. Lucky you growing up here. It's awesome!
It was so amazing watching that sky go from lots of puffy whites to totally gray and stormy! Thank you so much for sharing. P.S. Do you have a little shell business, or just collect for yourself?
If you don't like the weather in Florida, just wait 15 minutes! LOL. I've sold a few shells and I do have some for sale on my website, but I'm not serious about selling the shells as a business. I keep the ones I really like and then "recycle" the ones I'm not going to keep by brining them back to the beach. Thank you for watching!
