On March 7th, 2021, on the Florida Turnpike, a heated argument between the suspect, Joshua McCray, and driver Jennifer Odely led to McCray grabbing the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve, and striking Odely on the head and neck. After stopping the car, Odely attempted to flee with her backpack containing the vehicle keys and cell phone, but McCray pursued her, struck her again, and demanded the backpack. When Odely refused, McCray pulled out a kn1fe, attempted to c@t the backpack from her shoulder, and injured her left ring finger. Eventually, McCray succeeded in taking the backpack, which contained the key fob for the vehicle, and drove away in the car. A few minutes later, the Florida Highway Patrol Troopers spotted the suspect southbound on the Turnpike, and a pursuit ensued.
