Has anyone ever seen Virgil walk? I wonderful if his gait is polyrhythmic and polymeric?! Music at this level of abstraction and technical proficiency requires so many simultaneous skills and these cats have all of them! I am an old dude who played for many years, but have been virtually self exiled from drums for quite a while. Hearing these exciting and demanding pieces performed with such incredible virtuosity has got me revisiting the instrument. I don't delude myself about the fact that I do not possess the skills required to operate at this level. What is important to me is getting reengaged, listening, learning and exploring. It's easy to fall into the trap of burning days and weeks and years with repetitive - even robotic life patterns and loosing touch with the energy that is generated with exploring and pushing your personal envelops. I'm grateful for folks like these who remind us to keep moving forward and promulgate such joy in the process!
Virgil is beginning to not only take it to an unreachable level that's beyond playing, it's seriously at the point now where people are struggling to even comprehend! This is scary! Weird and scary. He is the equivalent of being 100 or more years more advanced then everyone but he is only 58.. Think about that! Scary..
Yup, drums isn't even my weapon of choice and he scares me. My Piano equivalent to Virgil is ANDRE SIMS. The things that man does on a piano are herecy
Most people don't comprehend brilliance, but as far as unplayable?Virgil notates everything, so if you can read music and are GOOD(as in you have the technical ability and mental aptitude) you WILL be able to play it.There is an aspect to this piece of music that many have overlooked, that being the notes played and written (not the improvised notes inbetween)are the same for bass and guitar,so very little counterpoint, which obviously is the point of this piece.
Junior Braguinha is one of my favorite bassists and you're right, he is a beast!! I think Evan Marian is the original bassist on this track in the studio. He's also a beast!!
Whether slamming a backbeat with southern sons or demonstrating interstellar odd time, unbelievable techy, or inhuman coordinated independence, I always end up smiling when I watch him play. For me that's what sets Virgil apart. ✌🏻️ Looking forward to the project with Thomas Lang!! 👏🏻🌍😝
yeah i think that they eliminated him as soon as he wanted to change the drum on Dance of eternity . actually he enhanced them quite a bit on those little snippets of the jams . their loss . mangini on adtoe proved to be a great choice though
Muy buenos pero me da nostalgia la alineación de Fierabracci y Garsed, ahí fue cuando escuché a Donati por primera vez!!!!! Junto con Colaiuta y Phillips mis batacos favoritos
Before dream theatre its drumming i didnt even know that this is the drummer of one of my fav bands years ago, planet x, and to my astonishment but later on very understandable that, he didnt make it thru thr auditions. Dream theater selected the one i definitely would mever ever have selected and now i know why that is too.
