I tore my obturator nerve almost 5 years ago and it was EXTREMELY painful. I've had all the symptoms with pain, muscle contractions, atrophy , needles... It took 5 months of intense pain before doctors believed me when I said I thought it was my obturator nerve. I've been on Gabapentin since then and thats only to manage the pain. Nothing has been done about it and its up to me to do whatever I can to try fix it. I will try doing these exercises to help wherever I can.

Fantastic, so much info in 5 minutes. I see this and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve entrapment (usually by TFL) both as being common problems that most of us PTs never heard about in school.

Thank you so much for this video! For years I have had pain/tightness in both areas that you mentioned in the video and for years I have been hunting for the cause. Your video helped me identify exactly what is going on! Your test was spot on and after I did the flossing I felt such a release of tension in my inner thigh. Thank you thank you

Oh wow, this worked instantly! I've had this pain coming and going for years and yesterday it started again. Today I was looking around the internet trying to figure out what causes it. Found this video, did that exercise and it was an inmediate fix! Thank you!!!

Thank you for these wonderful videos on nerve flossing. I've been through chiro services and physical therapy but they never were able to target the problem. These videos have helped me target the areas and the proper way to stretch them. Thank you so much. Appreciate it and I'm do happy to have found you. Will definitely be sharing your videos

Hi i have this constant tingling sensation in my inner thigh area which is very uncomfortable and when i do the first exercise i feel pain in my groin area. Does this mean this tingling or numb feeling is muscle related and not nerve related. btw i have had this tingling sensation for a month and a half now because i had an injury playing soccer where i kicked the ball hard before warming up.

Hello @LordPablo888, thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I cannot give advice or comment on specific cases without performing a physical examination and taking a complete history. That being said, tingling or numb sensations can be related to either muscle or nerve issues. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your specific condition, especially given your history of injury. Thanks for your comment and take care! Dr. Brian Abelson DC

I hurt what I thought was my pudendal nerve after cycling and it’s painful to sit down now. I have done PT but no improvement. Do you think I may have hurt my obturator nerve instead? Thank you!

Thanks a lot! Very helpful. I think that my test is positive. I'm wondering if the obturator nerve could also be causing a quite profound sense of restriction/immobility in the glute when descending in a squat? It feels like its deep in the glute and I have a really hard time (close to impossible) breaking in the hip on my right side.

I feel a pinching in the upper groin when I lift my leg to put pants on while standing etc. I cannot do this without the aid of holding on to a chair and bending over. Concurrent with this is overall S.I. Pain. Does this sound like it could be this nerve? I am afraid to do this exercise if it could worsen my symptoms without knowing if I am on the right track. This is the only thing that seems to make sense to me but I'm worried about self diagnosing. I would be willing to pay for a more in depth phone consult if it seems like it could be related. Thank you

Hi unfortunately, I can't comment on individual cases without examining you. Right now we are in the process of setting up virtual appointments. I would recommend seeing. practitioner in your area. You are right self diagnosis is never a good idea. Cheers

Thank you for the video, can the Obturator nerve cause irritation at all in the big toe (tingling)?
@kinetichealthonline
@kinetichealthonline 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for your question, @johnhennessey1697. From an anatomical standpoint, the obturator nerve primarily innervates the medial thigh muscles and is not typically associated with sensory innervation in the big toe. Tingling in the big toe is more commonly related to nerves that innervate the lower leg and foot, such as the sciatic nerve, which branches into the tibial and common fibular nerves. These nerves can be involved in sensations experienced in the toes. Obturator nerve issues may manifest as sensations in the thigh, or difficulties with leg movements that involve the adductor muscles. For concerns specific to toe tingling, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional who can perform a physical examination and provide personalized insights.

I have a parasthesia in my upper inner thigh, basically almost in the groin itself. It feels like a "buzzing" as if a cell phone is going off on vibrate. It's not painful at all, but can be very annoying when it goes on for a while. Could this be from the obturator nerve getting impinged or irritated? Would these flossing exercises help get rid of it? Thank you!
@kinetichealthonline
@kinetichealthonline 2 года назад
Hi Joker Jason: Obturator impingement is one of the possibilities. I can not make recommendations on specific cases with out examining the patient. I would recommend you go see a practitioner and get them to examine you and see if these exercises are appropriate for your case. Cheers!

What if the pain is only during leg extension
@kinetichealthonline
@kinetichealthonline Год назад
Hello, thanks for tuning in to the video! While I can't offer personalized medical advice without a thorough physical exam, it's worth mentioning that pain during leg extension is less commonly related to the obturator nerve, which primarily affects the medial thigh and adductor muscles. Instead, issues around the knee or quadriceps are more often implicated in leg extension pain. I strongly encourage you to consult with a local medical practitioner for a comprehensive evaluation tailored to your condition.

what nerve could possible affect the piriformis, plus the outside hip, a bit in the sit bone and feel like the lower back, close to the middle is a contributing factor?
@kinetichealthonline
@kinetichealthonline 2 года назад
Christine, interesting question. The superior gluteal nerve innervates most of the piriformis, the femoral nerve innervates the lateral hip, and the pudendal nerve travels close to the ischial spine. The lumbar plexus arises from T12, L1, L2, L3, and L4 spinal nerves. The primary nerves formed by the plexus are the femoral nerve, obturator nerve, and the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. Therefore there are many possibilities.

How important is it to wait 2-3 weeks before starting the tension exercise?
@kinetichealthonline
@kinetichealthonline 8 лет назад
It really is essential that you don't start the tension exercises to soon. Obviously I can't comment on individual cases without an examination, but in most cases it is essential to do the flossing/gliding for 2 to 3 weeks. Cheers
