Lynn, I am so GRATEFUL you don't do parking!! And that you start bottom left. I'm so relieved that I don't HAVE to park 5 billion loose threads I feel like putting you in the Will. (But, sadly, right now, it's just pot luck, so...) I made many cross stitch pieces, small and large full- coverage, many eons ago. I didn't really know the principles of good, neat CS. The back of each piece looked like The Scene of the Crime done in threads. Now that I'm seeing what is possible when one actually KNOWS what they're doing and not just "jumping on the horse and riding hell for leather," I was almost afraid to even pick up a needle again. So sincere gratitude for giving me permission to not have to do every technique "the big guys" are doing while I'm in the kiddie pool of born-again-virgin stitchers. Love and hugs!💙💜xxx
Sue Leigh. Your comment made me laugh! I think there is only 1 rule for cross stitching and that is “cross all your stitches in the same direction” my bottom stitch goes from bottom left to top right, the top stitch goes bottom right to top left. There are people who do the opposite and as long as they are all in the same direction it doesn’t matter. I used to be concerned about “neat backs” and now I don’t care. I don’t run a dark thread over an area of light coloured stitches but other than that... who cares what the back looks like! You do you and whatever works for you is for you and you should be enjoying it. That’s what matters🤗🤗🤗
@@flosstubethecanadianstitch8733 Thank you for giving me even more reassurance--and what feels like a more sane and reasonable approach! I hope you can feel me hugging you💜💜
Sue Leigh. I like virtual hugs! Hug back! Try different techniques and do what works best for you. I started at the top right, planned a 10x10 square and it took me all of 5 minutes to figure out I was not going to enjoy it. I probably could have done it but would not have found joy in it. So I stared at the pattern for awhile, thought about how I start and stitch other projects. Starting in the middle and working to the bottom left made the most sense. So I calculated the border and placed my first stitch in the bottom left. Cross country with double highlighting works for me. I do the most prominent colour of the whole page first then work down to the least used colour (called confetti by others, I just call them stitches 🤭, and I don’t complain or get upset by them or back stitching. It is all cross stitching and I enjoy all of it).😍 enjoy it!
@@flosstubethecanadianstitch8733 Oh, Lynn, I was so grateful as you explained your process. I needed that simplicity and clarification. I think it's because of my ADD. And when you put that part at the end that's in parentheses and right after it, I felt tears of relief well up. Of the relatively few vids I've watched on Flosstube, there has been a majority decrying that part of the process--back stitching, so I thought of back stitching as a miserable process. You've given me the joy back by basically saying, the journey is as important as the destination--and why not enjoy it all the way?!!! Why not savor those parts of the process as part of the "feast" and don't rush them. LIVE IN THE MOMENT without grabbing for that magic moment "when I will be happy." (Um...I will now step down off my soapbox and fade away into the sunset...) Thank you!!!
Sue Leigh. My joy comes from creating something, anything. Anytime I m doing something that I have to do and am not enjoying it, I long to be at home creating something. Right now it is cross stitch and a bit of knitted gifts (which I include in my give away prizes) I would enjoy being at home doing (gasp) confetti or back stitching or making x’s, 1/4 or 3/4 stitches or adding beads. They are all cross stitching and I m not going to complain about it. Back stitches are like oxygen. They breathe life into the pieces!
Rowena Izony. Welcome Rowena! Consider this video my “early work”! I’ve gotten much better.... thanks for commenting. Stitching Jules (from RU-vid) has a blog with a list of 500 RU-vid creators who make videos about cross stitch, a great resource if you are looking for channels to check out.
I just found your first video and enjoyed it very much. You didn't seem nervous but I know the feeling. You do have some large pieces, I also watch stitching Jules, her pieces are amazing too . Look forward to your progress afraid I have some large pieces too. Loved the patterns so why not try. Welcome to FT. Hugs, Lana
Thanks Lana. I am planning a repeating rotation of small, XL, medium, XL, L, XL so everything gets some attention with the goal of much progress and FINISHES!
So happy to see another flosstuber who does full coverage projects! You were awesome, and I can't wait to see more of you. Stitching Jules is amazing, isn't she?
Thank you! The plan is to do a video per week. I am hoping to learn how to position the camera so I can do a stitch with me (like Jules, yes she is amazing, her projects and finishes are great).
Welcome to flosstube, don't worry about being nervous. We are all nervous the first few times. Wow, you have some projects, can't wait to see more Audrey
Thank you. I will be improving the quality and content of my videos as I learn more and get more comfortable. I will be posting my December plans closer to the end of the month.
Thank you. I will be showing close ups of the designs and my stitching in future videos. I started that one on the first day of autumn this year. Her companion will be started on the first day of winter.
So happy you left a comment on my channel cuz now Ive found you! Your projects are beautiful ! Gonna binge now on your other videos, Thank you for keeping me company on a blizzard weekend here
Robin Norcross. Hi Robin!🙋🏼♀️thanks for commenting. Congratulations on starting your first HAED. I underestimated how long each one would take.... but I do enjoy stitching them. It is so exciting to stitch and stitch and stitch, then look at it and actually see the picture developing. Let me know if you have any questions and keep me updated on your progress. Cheers! Lynn.
Welcome to Flosstube. You have some great projects. I'm about to start my first HAED in the new year- it intrigues me that you've started at the bottom. I'm considering doing it differently than suggested because I stitch in hand - I'm still deciding!
I tried starting at the top and doing the parking technique, neither worked for me. I like starting at the bottom and doing a whole page cross country. There is no right and wrong. Find out what works best for you. I admire that you stitch in hand. That only works for me on small projects. Good luck with your 1st HAED. Which one are you doing? Let me know what you decide to do and how your progress is going?
@@flosstubethecanadianstitch8733 I'm going to be starting Silent Night Lane by Dona G somebody!, and my thought at the moment is to stitch the full left hand side from top to bottom in columns because i roll inwards from the left as i stitch, if that makes sense. I see you've subscribed to me so you'll be able to see progress once i start - i'm still kitting it up at the moment!.
I just looked at Silent Night Lane on the HAED site. It is amazing! Good choice, I hope you getting many hours of stitching enjoyment from that project.@@rarasstitchingrealm2276
Hello Lynne, I hope you are well. I do miss seeing you regularly on flosstube. Do you still cross stitch? I'm toying with making bracelets etc. again. Take care and stay safe. Angela x
Hi again :). I enjoyed watching your beautiful wips. It is nice to watch videos where there are mostly full coverage projects. Can you tell me, where you got your scroll frame? It seemed like really easy to scroll. I'm working with hoops, but I've been thinking about getting a real scroll frame, just haven't decided which one to get.
Elisa. Hi Elisa! I don’t know the brand of my scroll frame. I bought it locally. I see a great number of Flosstubers using and really liking the Omanik scroll frames and say they are very good. I prefer Q-snaps. That Celtic design is the only one I have used the scroll frame for. I don’t have a floor stand and I find it to be bulky to hold on to. I didn’t expect it to take this long to stitch so I wanted to use the frame thinking ahead about the beading.
Great first video☺. Loved how you gave all info out. As you said Jules is fantastic!!! She's amazing in many ways isn't she. You needn't apologise for being nervous, it was your first one, at least you put yourself out there and I thought you did really well. Out of interest, were you born in Canada? You sound more English. I am from England lol. I like the variety of different projects. See you next time. Happy stitchy holiday☺
I had to look up where Napanee is. It must be very pretty there! I use hoops, Q-snaps and scroll rods depending on the project. I only stitch in hand for very small projects. My preference is Q-snaps. How do you stitch?
Hello, I love your stitching and the variety of designs in the projects! My name is Eveline (Evelyn in English) and I am from the Netherlands. September 2019 me and my sister will be taking a campervan holiday in West Canada and maybe you could give me names of LNSses where we could go to. I realize that Canada is a big country, but who knows, maybe you can help me. I did not have any luck with the internet, only a couple of shops in Calgary. Love to spend some of my money on some Canadian cross stitch patterns!
Hi Eveline. Thank you for your comment. Try this site for individual shops in Western Canada: www.stitchingstudio.com/stores_stock.htm I would advise you to do further research as I know Prints Galore is now named Mister Frame. That particular shop is near my house. Good luck and keep me posted as to where you are planning to visit on your tour.
Flosstube Canadian stitcher Thanx for your reply! You've made me and my sister very happy 😃 I will update you when we're in Canada. Still a long way away, but slowly but surely September 2019 is getting closer.
Let me know if you will be in the Edmonton area (You mentioned Calgary, which is south of where I live.) I can tell you where 2 stitching shops are in Edmonton and one in St. Albert. The St. Albert one is tiny but it is where I get my framing done. @@eeffiethrifter3907
Hopefully you will see some interesting wildlife! I may talk about some of the wildlife animasl I have seen within our little city, yes, moose in St. Albert, it is pretty common here. I had 2 moose casually walking up my driveway one morning.@@eeffiethrifter3907
