Wow, I had never heard of the trolley needle before. I don't think I could be trusted with it though, and I only have one good eyeball to start with! 😂 😂 😂 😂 Great video, thank you!

I’ve never actually seen someone use a laying tool before so that was very helpful. Thank you so much for the tutorial! I am going to have to try one now.

It slowed down my stitching while I was getting used to it, but I'm faster with it now. Faster than when I was railroading the stitches anyway...LOL!!

Thanks, Christine, I've been wondering if anyone else uses a trolley needle! And I second the warning about remembering you're wearing it. I always enjoy your videos.

Thank you, Jill! These things are way more dangerous than they look, that safety glasses warning is no joke! LOL!!

That was cool, I have never seen either of those tools used before. I have heard of a Laying tool but never knew how to use one. You stitch the same way I do. From top left to bottom right and top right to bottom left.

I didn't think I was stitching "backwards" until I started watching Stitch With Me videos... and then I realized I do not stitch like everyone else. Now I know I'm not the only one! I think there are a couple of other stitchers like that on Instagram, but I can't remember who now. I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as all of our stitches go the same way anyway!

Thank you so much for this video. I have a problem with my thread twisting all the time. I will try the trolley needle next. By the way, you are probably the first stitcher that I've seen stitching the top thread to the right. That's how I stitch, too :).

I hope the video was helpful! Isn't it funny, I always feel like I'm the only one stitching like that too! I know there are a couple of others out there that stitchy like that, but I think we are in the minority!

Very educational, thanks Christine! ❤ Just had a few people comment on my newest blog post about my fav stitchy tools, and they love their trolley needles (and I've never used one). So here I am, learning about trolley needles, I'm thinking that might be handy to use for goldwork (which I've been doing some playing with).... but I can TOTALLY see me poking my eye or something with it, I do wear half readers sometimes when I'm stitching but not always.... 😂😂😂

Hi, Dana! Thank you so much! I *really* love my trolley needle, but I still have a bad habit of walking off with it on my finger and not realizing it's still there. Thank god I wear glasses, because I can't tell you how many times I've gone to poke myself in the damn eye with that thing! Beware!! LOL!!! And I think it would be great with Goldwork! I'm looking forward to hearing how your lessons go! If you like them a lot, I am considering checking out some of the online lessons they offer!

Funny I use the exact same magnifying glasses haha 😂 Thanks for taking the time to explain that! I sue the laying tool for awhile now Wish I could do non pattern like that I just don't understand it. It's probably easier than I think haha 😂Have a Great Day! Sheila

Great tutorial. Also the warning about wearing safety glasses can apply to a lot of things that aren't as sharp - crochet hooks and knitting needles. LOL Keep up the great work, Christine

My hands always shake, it's just a thing. I was nervous because I knew it would show up in the video and I couldn't hide it. Oh well, it's just part of who I am, I shouldn't be embarrassed about that! LOL!!

Thanks for the demo. I will try putting mine on the ring finger, you make it look so easy! Did you know that the trolley is made from a banjo pick? My husband plays bluegrass banjo and wears them on all fingers!

Useful info. I use Vonna's method so don’t railroad per se. I’d love to get more info on the glasses you showed that you wear to stitch. I wear progressive bifocals and still need a magnifying light, but sometimes that's not practical but I haven’t been able to make magnifier glasses work for me yet. TIA.

Hi, Sheila! I will do a review of them in a video. I love them! They are the Yoctosun Head Mount Magnifiers. I bought them off of Amazon. They have eyeglass arms on them, but they also come with an elastic band that wraps around instead, and that's what I use. You can find them here: www.amazon.com/Yoctosun-Magnifier-Professional-Jewelers-Interchangeable/dp/B01H8808H6

What stand do you use for holding your projects?
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 4 года назад
I used a K's Creation Z-frame lap stand for this video, but my stitchy spot is set up with a K's Creation floor stand.
@FrostyXStitch

Thanks for this. Does it really make so much of a diference to the finished product?
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 6 лет назад
For me using the trolley needle does make a difference. For some reason I end up twisting my needle and it ends up making the strands twist over each other too. It drives me crazy!
@FrostyXStitch
@FrostyXStitch 6 лет назад
I know I twist my needle, but I tend to untwist it regularly with a twist of my hand, I only just realized I do this after seeing your video. 🤷🏻‍♀️😊 Things you discover after watching someone else stitch😄
@meltischler2624

why does it need to be sharp? can i just use a chopstick?
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 2 года назад
I don't think it has to be sharp. Definitely try a chopstick and see if that works out well for you. Some of the sharp tools can be used in other ways as well, like as a stilleto in sewing too. It doesn't have to have a pointy end for laying threads neatly.

What are you using to hold your qsnaps
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 2 года назад
In this video I used a k's creation Z Frame lap stand. I also use either a Lowery or a K's Creation floor stand currently, depending on which room I am doing my stitching.

Thanks for posting this. I REALLY want a trolley needle, BUT... every time I see one, I hear the mom from A Christmas Story in my head... except instead of telling me I'll shoot my eye out, she's telling me I'll poke my eye out. 8-) ... I showed this to Hubs and he was like, "That's definitely not something you should get, you'd probably stab yourself in the eye." He knows me so well...
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 6 лет назад
Well, being that you're my twin and all, I would expect that you'd go to poke your eye out with it too. I certainly wouldn't use this thing if I didn't have glasses on! Brad probably doesn't realize what a danger it is or he would have banned it from the house...LOL!!!
@romantictangle
@romantictangle 6 лет назад
That bit about the safety glasses made me cringe. I take my glasses off so I can see my stitches and hold my work close to my face and could just imagine the disaster. Nope. Not even going to think about trying that!
@StitchALLTheThings
@StitchALLTheThings 6 лет назад
If I didn't wear the magnifiers or my normal glasses, I'd have already been in the ER at least once already!! (and probably blind in one eye!)
