I really enjoyed your review of the frame! As for the scroll rods I only use them on my floor frame! I too enjoy stitching 2 handed! I had watched an episode of Jessie Marie does stuff on floss tube, she made a lap/table top frame for her scroll rods! I asked her if I could modify her design she was so nice and said yes! So I turned her lap frame into a floor stand it works great! It's less than $20.00! I have a video on how I did it with all of the how too's in the description, Tessa Carmine is my channel name ! Oh and I just subscribed ☺️! Tessa☆

If your looking for a wonderful lap stand I can’t recommend the Elan lap stand enough. Reasonably priced, quality made, and a work horse. I’ve had mine 3-4 years and absolutely love it. There is a flosstuber who has the best review I’ve seen. I can look for a link for her if you’re interested. Happy stitching!

I got back into cross stitching about 5 months ago after about 15 years away. I must say I can't get enough. All I want to do is cross stitch all day long every day. I think I am addicted!!! I agree all the language has changed. I used to put my floss on bobbins, but now use floss drops (much easier to use). I ran across your video while stitching and had to watch all three, great job am looking forward to your next video, take care!!!

I always try to give new floss tubers a listen, and sadly many don’t catch my interest. But you did. I love your content, you seem so at ease being filmed, and I could relate to so many of the issues you’ve had as you have gotten back into stitching. Thank you for such an enjoyable video! I would also love to see some of your quilting projects. 🙂

If you have ever watched Pamscraftycorner on RU-vid she has a tutorial to make a similar stand with the cut lengths listed for the PhD pipes. I have made several and I may have spent 20 total for the pvc pipe for all of them combined. I finally changed the elbow joint on the last one to a different connector and now just use it to support my Q snaps on it without attaching my fabric to the frame itself. There are even tutorials for making floor stands out of pvc piping. I just buy extra clamps for Q snaps on Amazon in bulk for my pvc frames. I don't slide my clamps off my fabric. I either use a scrap piece of flannel or batting that is longer or a length of ribbon and just pull the end up to remove the clamps. I've had linen rip on finished pieces using Q snaps prior to learning to use batting or ribbon to remove the clamps.

As always I enjoyed your video. I too have just gotten back into counted cross stitch after 30 some years.. what a game changer!! I’m still learning WIPS ( works in progress) Sals (stitch alongside) etc… the thing that makes me happiest is the number of WIPS you can be working on at a time!! Years ago we were monogamous stitchers ( stitch on one thing til it is finished!) now we have the freedom to work on as many as we want! Put them In A rotation, or set certain days aside for certain projects!!! So much more fun!! Also the full coverage pieces!! What a concept!! (Still gathering courage for that) keep up the great job!!

I had tried this frame and I found that the sharp corners on the clamps were what was tearing the holes in my fabric. I took a nail file like they use on artificial nails and filed the corners into a smoother rounded shape that won't catch the fabric so easy.
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles Год назад
That's a great idea! When I mentioned it to my son, he took them out to the porch, rub them on the concrete, and voila! Smoothed out corners! I still like the frame, and I have my second project on it. It's so much better with not so pointy clamps. 😁 Thanks for commenting 🪡

It aggravated me to no end picking up my project and trying to figure out how in the heck to hold my scroll frame and also be able to use both hands to stitch! Its so cumbersome and inevitably always ends up annoying me so much, that I end up putting it down. I absolutely wanted something that was actually a frame and a frame that can be HANDS-FREE!!! I use a wooden scroll frame and always sit in my reclining chair with the foot up. I sit with my feet on the foot rest with my knees slightly bent and then rest my frame on my knees. Since I am a two handed stitcher, this works great without having to use one of my hands to hold the frame.

I bought a frame like that on Etsy, but the problem for me was that I couldn't get my arms around it. I'm short, so I couldn't reach where I wanted to stitch. I had 25 year break from stitching, and came back in 2020 right before Covid. It's been fun to stitch again in this current cross stitch world. I sit in my desk chair, and stitch using Q-snaps. I can hold 8x8 and 8x11 with no problem. But what works best for me is a Lowry stand using 8x17 Q-snap on the larger pieces. I have both old and new scroll frames, but haven't really used them, yet, with my Lowry.

Am goiing to try the lapstand. Saw another utuber who had one. Sorry cant remember who. What they did is rounded those sharp corners and sanded them. She said it now works beautifully. I dont have great eyesight so need help to see my fabric. Considered trying those glasses you have. I checked reviews, only bout 50% liked them cause of weight, batteries and harder to see tv. I found plain old glasses. Speert international has many different glasses for different jobs. I ordered a magnification size #7. They are very strong so you might need less magnification. Wow, i could see every hole! Mind you i still have a hard time with black fabric. I only paid $40 cdn for them. They are an american co, so usd would be a lot less. I cant tell you how happy i am about being able to see what i am doing. God bless all of you. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for your eyeglass suggestions! I will look into those. My mag glasses are the rechargable ones so they don't have the extra battery weight. Not to say they don't slip down my nose. 🤓. My son took my clamps outside and rubbed them real good on the cement and rounded them nicely. And now there's not as much a worry. Thanks for commenting. 😊🌸🪡

1. To better see the holes on black fabric, place a white fabric, or paper behind the black fabric &, of course, great lighting!, 2. The highest I have seen magnification lenses are 4.5...thanks for your information.

I enjoy your floss tube! I find it easier for me to just balance my scroll frame between my hip and under my arn which frees up both hands with my right hand underneath and my left hand over the top. I have tried scroll frame stands and don't like them because they limit my constant checking of the backside.

Thank you for your comment! As I read this, I am working on the project I had loaded onto my frame. I am currently balancing it similar to your description. Balancing the left side with a pillow. You're right, that does work better. I do like to check my back often, too! Again, thank you for sharing this info. 🙂

I’m so glad you posted up a video of this, I’ve had this in my cart for months. You can buy smaller clamps at Home Depot in the plumbing dept for under $1 each. May smaller ones would work better???

Thank you. I do like it. I just loaded up my next project on it! I've heard about the clamps. Apparently they make them for attaching greenhouse plastic to PVC frames. I'm hoping to get them and some PVC to make a couple of hoops. We can never have too many hoops 🤭. Thanks again for commenting. 🙂🌸🪡

Hi Annette I enjoyed your podcast! Thanks for the review I have a stand like that but I made it! I followed Pam’s crafty corner to make it out of pvc pipe. Where did you the blue willow pattern? Thanks Laurie

@annettesneedles 2 года назад
Thank you so much. I saw hers after I did this video! That blue willow design is called China Blue from the magazine, Ultimate Cross Stitch: East Asia, Vol 25 2020. If you use the down arrow under the video I did link to it to make the magazine easy to find. I have it on my Kindle, but did a screenshot of the graph so I could print it out. 😊🌸

I bought that same frame. I had to puzzle out putting it together but figured out with the photo. I didnt like using in my lap, but I'll try the pillow and a flat surface. I found the clamps very tight. I only tried one piece of Aida. I think it's better to work on a desk or table.

The clamps are very tight! I've had tips in other comments, but the one about the clamps that I love is to use a generously long piece of flannel or fleece between the clamp and your fabric and pull the clamp up on one end then off. Another said she uses a long piece of 1" or 2" ribbon under her clamps on all her PVC type frames. Those are tips I'm planning to use! 😊 Thank you for commenting 🌸

Just found your channel and believe it or not I was looking at that frame this morning on Amazon. It looks like it would only work on larger projects...correct? I have wooden frames and they are bulky to use. The owner of my LNS uses a hoop and keeps moving it when needed. Just getting back to cross stitch after a lapse to knit.
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles 2 года назад
Yes. I think it would work best in a larger project, or at least on a large piece of cross stitch fabric. I started venturing out from a wooden hoop with an 8 x 8 QSnap hoop and that seems to be just right for smaller projects. Since so many love the wooden scroll frames, I want to give it a good try. I may give up on them altogether, but I will try. ☺️

My husband made me one of those stands a few years ago out of pc pipe. He made me two sizes. Then I ordered the clamps. Pam showed how to do it. With that said, I have not used them in awhile. I just saw you for the first time today. I find you refreshing and honest.can you wear those glasses if you already wear glasses?
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles 2 года назад
How nice that he is so handy! I do wear glasses, but I take them off. I can see the TV well enough over the top of the lens if I'm watching TV. But in thead I saw, the gal was wearing glasses with them on. They come with an alternate headband so they wouldn't compete over your ears if you want to keep your glasses on. Thank you for commenting 🙂

@Karen Word, yes, you can wear glasses and wear the magnifying lenses over them to stitch. I have the same ones, and they fit over my glasses just fine 🙂 Meline

What about using wax paper under instead of material
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles 2 года назад
That's a good thought. Another suggestion was to use flannel much longer than the clamp and pull it off so it doesn't stress the fabric by sliding. Thank you for that, I forget about wax paper, but you just opened my mind to tons of ideas with that! 🌸

How do you cut your thread off??
@annettesneedles
@annettesneedles 2 года назад
It's very light. I just tip it forward and run under and back the nearby stitches. I've seen videos on doing the pin stitch from the front and I'm trying to learn that, but for now, I just lay it down it front of me and tie off in the back. Thanks for asking 🌸

The needle size will depend on your fabric. The size I usually use is 24, or 26. Since I usually stitch on 14 or 16 count Aida cloth, those needle sizes are good. I hope that helped. 🪡🧵😊
