Hi remember me? From the Netherlands. The last months I was very busy with other things and only now I have more time for watching Floss tubes again. This one was very nice, again, I love your enthusiasm.

One of the best books I have found for all things color: Colour Confidence in Embroidery by Trish Burr. While it is true that Ms. Burr talks about color in her other hardback volumes, including her excellent Whitework with Colour, Color Confidence is the best dmc referenced guide I have found for successfully developing one's own palettes for needlework. Worth every penny and available through bookstores everywhere including Amazon. It does include color theory, yes. But her instructions for how to select balanced palettes are spot on. Plus...getting all of those wonderful surface embroidery patterns in her book doesn't hurt a bit.

Just finished the video and it could have been longer. I enjoyed every minute of it. I love hearing about MFE and your music too. I often think I would be happy stitching nothing but MFE, HAED and HATS. Those three have me hooked. My current HATS samplers are Jane Vaughan and Walter the Bird from Anne Thomas.

P.S. If you haven't already done so, watch Lost in Stitches. Her last video was jaw dropping. Lots of large projects completed, and may just inspire you to find a new large piece.

Love how you describe colors and color combinations. I am looking at my floss in a whole different way. Your fabric bundles are fantastic… from an experienced quilter. Welcome to the fabric rabbit hole. 😉

If I could give you 1,000 thumbs up on this video I would. WOW, so packed with interesting things! I absolutely support you being shouted out by other stitchers! It's a little funny to watch what you describe about your train stitching after you actually stitched on the train with the babies and with little light lol hahah. Anyhow, I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed catching up with you and stitching along to your descriptions of colour and old finishes. Alos! THANK YOU!!! I feel so special you waited to post this video because of the floss. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do :) Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year! P.S. Would you ever consider playing the cello on a flosstube? or even just adding it in the beckground?

Enjoyed this so much. What would you think about adding the gold Nobelle?? to the Falu Red and the dark green (can’t remember the name). Loved seeing your color combos. Thanks for sharing.

Katie Strachen (spelling?) is an awesome person. Do go back to her first video, because that's a wonderful idea. I will do that as well. When you see what she creates, you won't believe it. But, about you, you are talented, and you can take whatever liberties you need to to create your own ideas on patterns. Your work is beautiful, and if you can do a hemstitch, so can I, and I have found the video. You are wise not to teach Jacob's technique. It is his intellictual property, but if we ask nicely, maybe one day he will agree to do a tutorial. If you need a grandma in your life, I volunteer. 😄Even if you have a grandma, you might need a second one. Holday blessngs to you and your family.

New to your channel and really enjoyed your video! If you're looking for color theory, check out Works by ABC (Arlene Cohen). Not only that - she's a needlework historian (in my opinion) and is very knowledgable. I think you'll really enjoy her videos. So nice to spend time with you. Kathy

I want to thank you! You mentioned Green & Bear It by Roxy Floss in an earlier video. I’d been searching for a very dark almost black green for my H. Purdue 1822 sampler by The Needlework Press as I thought the called for green to be too green. Green & Bear It is absolutely perfect!!

Have so enjoyed your video. I am a big fan of MFE and have the Sal finished from 2021! Albeit a year later. Love the idea of stitching a "sleeping" chart of his. Thank you for sharing, I especially enjoyed your floss colour choices....very insightful and especially encouraging for those of us whose skill in this department is minimal. Enjoy your stitching.

Carmen, I continue the binge watching marathon! Your MFE finishes are gorgeous and the beautiful hem stitching is a wonderful way to set them off! Since I am behind the times in my comments I may be telling you what you already know, but for a thorough Color Theory study, take a look at flosstubes by Sheri, Colorado Cross Stitch. Her latest 2024 video is focused on warm vs. cool colors. She has older videos on other color aspects. On ironing old pieces of folded linen, mist lightly with white vinegar/water mix and iron "in the ditch" side of the fold, rather than on top of the fold. Just make sure the floss is a DMC or colorfast thread that will not bleed. Moving on to #4...hope to be caught up by tomorrow evening!

Carmen, this is my first time watching your video (thanks to the shout out from Brenda & Laura) and what a pure delight you have been!!! Your finishes are fabulous! You have made me very interested in learning to do the hem stitch so thank you for the link. Your WIPs are beautiful! Loved seeing your colour combos! Thanks for sharing your joy and passion for this wonderful hobby of ours! Happy stitching!

Miss Carmen. You are a delight. Sometimes you can get stubborn wrinkles out of cloth by dabbing on a dilution of white vinegar and water, then ironing til dry. Don’t know if it would impact the floss, so you’ll want to be cautious when applying. I’m looking forward to your next flosstube. Thanks for sharing your enthusiastic love for this craft with us.

Hi Carmen! Thanks for another inspirational video! This past summer I dyed my own flosses with natural materials that I could gather from my garden and flowers. I also used a few spices that I bought at the grocery store. I've made several posts on IG if you would like to take a look. I especially loved your Roxy floss combinations today!❤

Great video again, loved the color combo part. As mostly (still) a quilter, I love pulling fabrics & therefore colors and as a beginning stitcher I find myself doing the same. It's great that you mentioned all the colors by name. If I ever want to order floss online I can have a look here which might be helpful.

Well, that was depressing 😞Things from the 90s are VINTAGE?! But the nineties were only just yesterday, no? 🤣🤣🤣Just kidding, Carmen. In spite of how old I feel now, this was another wonderful episode. Nice to have a little of your stitchy story too. Never get rid of those early pieces of stitching you have, even if they’re not what you’d choose now. It’s so lovely to have the pieces that are part of your journey. I really wish I had more of mine. Not sure how, but I will definitely be joining you for the JacobSleeperSAL and will be making sure to let my viewers know too because there are a lot of Jacob fans among them. Thank you for joining this community Carmen. I hope you will have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to seeing where 2024 is going to take you in your stitches.

What a great video! I love all the Modern Folk Embroidery especially your Friesian Band Sampler, what a great idea. Love the Biscornus, I did just the top and made pin pillows for gifts. My Mom likes everything I make so I often see things I thought were for myself go to her, she’s 90 and she really appreciates it. Your Moda fabric is gorgeous! I got a lot of Sheepish Designs patterns, that was big in the 80’s when I first started cross stitching. I came back to it around 2018 when I was looking for a Scottish sampler and found HATS. Haven’t stopped since. Oh a Charlotte Ramsay conversion sounds like a great idea, love her floss. Katie is a great rabbit hole. Karen Combs has a flosstube about color wheels, may be #9 but not sure. She is a teacher of quilting so has that included in some of her videos. As far as finishing you must go down the Vonna Pfeiffer rabbit hole, queen of finishing and step by step instructions, in fact Katie refers to her a lot especially for a drum. Have a wonderful time with your family.

I'm so excited to join your stitch along. My plan is to start MFE Under the Stars the full version using a hank of Roxy Floss Fairy Dust in 40 count Porcelian. I plan to make this a birthday start on February 21st and then use it as my Sunday Stitch. I ordered all my materials and can't wait to start.

Loved seeing all your finishes, your progress, the hem stitch, the color combinations (and your descriptions of them), the origin story and the old finishes, the artistic license discussion, and your energy and enthusiasm. Cannot wait for the finish parade and whatever 2024 brings.

Hi Carmen - thank you for the colour combinations. I think one the pink combinations would be great on one of my accent colour walls. Not sure what I would stitch yet, but I am sure I will come up with something that will look good. Wishing you a good Holiday season and a fabulous 2024 of stitching. To stuff your pillows, you can go to a fabric store and get Fiberfill - it is made for stuffing animals, pillows and soft sculpture dolls.

I appreciate your showing your finishes with hem stitches. I need to learn the technique. I’ve finished several cross stitch pieces as quilted wallhangings. I like to use clear push pins to hang some pieces. I also buy dowels and hooks to hang wallhangings. My larger quilts I hang with curtain rods and rings with clips.

Your video was fantastic as usual. I happily stitched along while you chatted. I think it’s completely normal to lay this foundation in your first few videos, and I love hearing about your evolution as a stitcher. I returned to stitching in February 2021 through a series of unpredictable events and like you, have fallen HARD. Have a very merry Christmas and happy new year! ❤️

I totally agree…we need to personalize our stitches…it is almost impossible for me to do everything according to the pattern. I am curious, have you considered putting a tiny hanging sleeve on the back of your pieces and then hanging them in tapestry style? It is a great alternative to framing. Take care Carmen and Merry Christmas. Doing a drum or a mattress finish is no harder than the biscornu. You can do it!
