BTW I think your beading is amazing. I also am so in love with your modifications on your celtic ladies. I am a horse lover and haven't been so into the celtic ladies until I saw your equine modifications. Oh, what you have started..... Love it. Keep up the creativity and enthusiasm for this craft. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge.
Thank you for the video. It's always nice to get other people's experiences with projects. The wings looks beautiful and I love how you can see the skin through them! There's so many details that I don't ever notice until we get a close up. Very nicely done!
Hi Kate. I am lilstardanes from the yuku boards. I just recently found floss tube and have been binge watching all your videos and some others. Thank you so much for posting this video. I just started working on the wings and was getting so discouraged from the threads shredding. I just did a length the way you did and it was so much more enjoyable! Thank you again so much!
thanks so much for doing that. I am working on her right now. She is my first Mira and I havent gotten any beads or krenik or anything for her yet, just doing the dmc right now. I think I may be scared to go any further lol. No I will push forward, her wings are stunning!!
LOVE her! She turned out beautifully with all your changes! I adore the concept of her musical theme, and please show us when you get the music note charms on. I had the same spacial issue when I beaded Mermaids of the Deep Blue. It was on 28ct. and some areas just looked so jammed! I'm such a direction follower that I just dealt with it and moved on, but in the future I may look at the option of leaving some beads out. I know on one of my mini chats, I need to go back and maybe do that to some beaded areas before I call it done. All in all, she is gorgeous!! Hard work pays off! Hugs and happy stitching!
Thank you Elizabeth! Always a pleasure to see you. Sometimes there's no getting around it and some beads just have to stay off the project for the sake of asthetics. Which is really weird for me to say cuz I add extras lol, but only where they fit
Love the re-charting and the way you did her wings! Oh, I hate rough fabric. The only shredding I can stand is Metal guitar solos, ha! I used DMC Light Effects for Flora Fairy and thought her wings turned out fine. Great tips, thanks for sharing!
I love this project she is on my wish list and when I do get around to doing her I'd love to stitch the violin so I would really appreciate you charting it 😊👍 and thanks for all of the tips, great video.
I usually do mira's on 28ct and haven't had a problem with beading yet, but now I just bought the fabric for Snow Queen and it's 32ct. I have lots of concerns about how the beads will fit, so thanks for the advice. I'm also worried about how my eyes are are going to manage that count...perhaps it's time to purchase one of those LED magnifying lamps! Your project is gorgeous and I love the violin.
Beautiful stitching, the violin is a lovely addition. I recently finished this project and the beading, backstitch, etc was much harder on the top half. I gave up on the precise bead placement and did it "freestyle" after nearly driving myself crazy. I used a hand dyed fabric so it may have been a little smaller than 32 count.
This was so helpful Kate! I think this is one of the most stunning Miras and one I'm anxious to do - but so labour intensive! I strongly dislike blending filament ... grr. Curse you beautiful wings! McKenzie
I am using blending fillament (for the first time) on Angel of Love. I honestly HATE the stuff. I am going to try your method of the two strand half cross. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I am doing this fairy at the moment ,what a struggle with the wings and quarter stitches ,and the lips are giving me grief as l do not know how to do them ,and the colour that’s for the lips is not listed in the floss .yours is beautiful.
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply! I used the shade of pink in her wings for the lips and backstitched them with it or a darker shade of pink, cant remember offhand exactly, but I did use the same pink in her wings. I hope that helps
Lovely Piece. I just have a small question. I am using Kreiniks #4 braid the very first time for a nora corbett design. I would like to know if you used two over two when working on Middy or did u only use one thread of Kreinik over two?
You talked about it being tight in places for the beads. Since you were using 36 count fabric, if you had changed out the 11/0 seed beads for 15/0 seed beads you would have been happier. I have been adding beads to cross stitch before it became popular and patterns started showing beads. I hope this helps when beading your next project. Mill Hill petites are 15/0 in size. If you were using 28 count, 11/0 seed beads would be better.
I love the 15/0 beads, Middy does call for some of those, they are the gold petites on her gown. The fabric is 32ct, and all I can manage at that count, I think 36ct would make me blind lol! I prefer 28ct cuz the beads fit so much better. But how awesome you've been blinging things up before it was even a thing, too cool! Would love to see your work sometime?
One other thought... Mill Hill puts out many of their bead colors in both 11/0 and 15/0. I haven't done it myself, but in tight places you might try to use both sizes in order to fit them together easier. Just a thought. When I was younger I gave away a lot of the pieces I stitched. Now later in life, I am starting to be selfish and stitch for myself. You are so kind to respond back to me. I hope I have helped. Boy, sometimes I can get so excited in this type of process. Love seeing all your videos!
thus far I've just omitted beads, but that technique you described is very much like how beaded costumes are done, like wedding dresses, belly-dancing outfits, figure skating, etc. I bet it would work wonderfully for stitching. So glad to have you stop by, and thanks for the kind words!
Hi! Your fairy is so cute and nice! Would you share the pattern of the violin you had modiffied on the original pattern? Please i'm in love with it. Thank you very much! ^_^
I am looking for 14 count Aida to do this pattern ,could you suggest a colour this would look good on please ? As l am having trouble finding a colour online to suit this pattern .
I wish we could do all Miras on 32 ct and comfortably fit all the beads.... I guess the Delicas could do the job but then all the Swarowski crystals would have to be changed in size too...
Hi Kate, I changed my name so it would be easier to read (formerly xxcourtr ). Is there a vid on how to unwind specialty threads like Thread Gatherer and Glorianna silks? I bought the kit for my Chinese Garden and when I tried to unwind one of the silks it became a mess and even started to shred. I thought silk thread was suppose to be very strong. You know we pay a lot for these type of threads and I don't think they should be so difficult to untie and then start to separate too much. Even the single strand started to divide. Is this normal with silks?
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, the farm has kept me extra busy this summer/fall. What I do is make a working copy, and highlight where Ive stitched already. For full coverage projects I do grid my fabric :)
