I have seen other women using double sided tape in cross stitch finishing, instead of lacing. I'm 74 years old and I can tell you from experience the downside of this practice. Over time the tape will loose its stick and release the fabric. And as it dries up it will leave a glue residue on your cross stitch. The same thing will probably happen to sticky board mounted projects. I use sticky board to hold felt or thin cotton batting in place behind small projects like ornaments & flat folds but never place cross stitching fabric directly on it. Lacing takes more time to do but the finish will last longer and it will not damage your cross stitch.

Good to know, do you know how long it takes to see these less than ideal outcomes? Of course I would love my pieces to last forever, but I mostly just want to have them for now (knowing they may not be my style forever).

@@STEMxSTITCH Since I'm 74 years old and have been using tape for things all of my life I don't really know how long it took to begin to break down. I only know I have been surprised and dismayed when I come across tape that has failed. When the glue on the tape has failed the plastic part will survive but it will become very brittle. I'm reasonably sure it takes longer than 10 years to happen and possibly more than 20 years but it will happen in your lifetime.

I’m 55 years old and have been cross stitching since I was 7. Most items in frames or hoops will be fine with tape or whatever for a very long time. I have some items that I really care about but most things, especially smalls or ornaments are like any other decor we choose. Eventually it is not our style anymore. Very few items hit the “heirloom” list because most family members don’t really appreciate cross stitch that much. We just cleaned out my mother’s craft room and it was shocking how many materials were unusable and how many things were left for Goodwill or the trash after all family members, friends and church quilting group got too choose finished items and supplies. Don’t worry too much but maybe take extra care with something that is important to you.

Love watching you and as someone with multiple health conditions that do not yet have a cure, I had to say thank you. Your work and research are so very appreciated. One of my medications is a biologic that absolutely would not be possible without people doing the research and having that passion. I also appreciate how organized and passionate you are about stitching. Thank you again for another wonderful video. Happy Stitching -Kimberly

Do you realise DMC sometimes had colour differences? So if you need more than one skein for a haed, please do buy them at once and keep those separate for the project.
@STEMxSTITCH
@STEMxSTITCH Год назад
Yup, I am aware that DMC occasionally has dye lot shifts, though much less frequently than overdyeds do. However, it’s hard to get a good estimate of skein numbers for 2 stranded half stitch on 25ct imo, and I don’t like to over buy multiples personally. If I do run into this problem at any time, I will likely strand together the two dye lots to help blend, etc. Though in my current piece there are a lot of broken up colors so I doubt that it would be very obvious unless the two dye lots are right next to each other!

Love your storage solutions! I am just coming back to cross stitch and found the mini patterns from your Flosstubes - love them! And I have no idea what “ORT” (?) stands for? All the thread ends? Thanks! ~Jenn
@STEMxSTITCH
@STEMxSTITCH Год назад
Hi Jenn, thanks! The mini art patterns are so awesome :) Ort is a funny word, im not sure there is a consensus on what it stands for but I have heard “old ratty threads”, “odd random threads”, or that it was an old German word that means “leftover”. Either way, it’s basically Al those little bits of thread you snip off when you reach the end of a strand or don’t need that color any more.

Hi again. Thanks for posting. I'm glad you mentioned the meaning of Stem. As I thought you were referring to stem cells being a biologist ha ha. A question please: is pattern keeper available to use on a mobile phone? I can't understand the App and wonder if you could suggest an easy tutorial on RU-vid. Also I love your UFO pattern 😍. I looked for it on 123 stitch but then heard you had made the pattern which is totally amazing. I would love to see more galactic being patterns. Lots love, great video xx
@STEMxSTITCH
@STEMxSTITCH Год назад
Pattern keeper requires an android device with the google play store installed. So it will work on some phones, but not IPhones. Is your trouble with installing the app or using it? Pattern keeper has a RU-vid channel and a reasonably helpful website, but if you search RU-vid for how to use pattern keeper, there are tons of stitcher with tutorials as well! The UFO pattern (unexpected visitors) isn’t actually mine, it’s from Night Spirit Studios, who you can find on Etsy!

I just finished setting up my floss like Sonovastitch does using the DMC color chart as the reference. It satisfies the color order want, but still a nice way to find by #. Plus his genius of putting a number at the bottom to assist in putting away really sold me on the system! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gd6O_7JNgCE.html
