Enjoyed your video! I think it's wonderful that you & Lisa reconnected through the love of cross stitch! My paternal Grandma made a quilt top for me while Mom was pregnant, Grandma was dying of cancer & knew she would never see me. As an adult I kept it tucked away for fear something would happen to it, it was just a top. In my early 50's I had my Sister finish it, she is 14 years older than me & remembers a dress of hers made out of one of the fabrics. I get it out and display it across a chair at times. I had to tell myself she made it out of love & I need to look at it. It's great that each cousin has a quilt to treasure.
What a bittersweet story that is. It’s tragic when a loved one is taken too soon. I’m glad you get to enjoy your grandmother’s quilt. It’s nice that your sister finished it for you. Family is everything. ❤
Thanks for the wholesome visit. How nice for your cousin to come and share her stitching. Lovely projects! Your family’s quilts are so very special and finding that note on the last one made happy tears come to my eyes. I quilt and cross stitch so this video just made my day! Be Well
You both are so lucky to have quilts from your family. I wish I had some. I enjoyed this video with both of you. I love those frosted glasses you were drinking from. So very pretty. Thank you again.
The quilts are beautiful. I started quilting in 1984. I learned to do it by hand. I pieced by hand and quilted by hand because I wanted to do it like my grandma. She passed away in 1936. So I never knew her. My mom said if your grandma had the sewing machines that you have today she wouldn't have done it by hand.
Gorgeous quilts! The oldest one with the handwritten label is my favorite! You could copy that note onto a fabric label and then handstitch it to the back, put the original with a picture in a family scrapbook. In fact take pictures of all the quilts and pair them with the maker, would be good gifts for all the grands/great grands, etc.
I am so impressed in your videos. It is amazing to find a relative. My grandma Rhoades had 42 grandchildren or more when she passed. I had been told each grandchild got a quilt, but I really don't think she made that many. The one she made my mom was Sunbonnet Sue in that 30s pinks. Also embroidery. It had mom's initials on it. I have 3 sisters. I am the only one that quilts send handwork. My sisters decided I should have the quilt. So special. I love hearing your family history. You are great at adding pictures to video also.
Mary, thank you for your kind words ❤. We are learning as we go. I feel so fortunate that I have Lisa to stitch and share with. Makes it all very special. Thank you for watching. We’re having fun and as long as we can do this together, I think we will continue.
I have 2 quilts that were made for my mother right after she was married. They are depression era quilts, are not pretty, but I cherish them sooooo much! The blocks are from seed/flour sacks, You are very fortunate to have your quilts.
Any memory is a cherished treasure. You are lucky to have them as I’m sure your family will also appreciate them in the future. This whole experience has been a true blessing for me. ❤
I really enjoyed the treasures you shared, those quilts are pretty special, and loved that you found the note! I believe the ones you showed were called Granny Squared. How fun to have your cousin with you. Also your Shasta camper is to die for!!
So enjoyable seeing and hearing about your quilts. I have 2 quilts my mother made, probably from the late 1950’s. Some of the blocks are from my father’s old shirts that I can remember him wearing.
Those memories are priceless. I’m sure you feel the same. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. This experience has been such a blessing. ❤
What fun to meet up with your cousin who is also of the same mind! And the quilts, what treasures, aren't they? Great grandmother's quilt is really beautiful! I have some from my great grandmother on Mom's side, a grandmother on Dad's side, and a bunch that my mom made- all of them WIPs. Oh, and I found a needlepoint that I probably started when I was in my early teens. The background is an unknown color, and I think I'll have to start that part over. I wonder if I really have to finish them all... nudge me Cindy!
Loved seeing your grandmother's quilts. They are amazing. I too live in Jennings County Indiana in the North Vernon area. I am originally from Columbus Indiana. 😊
It’s a small world isn’t it? Thank you for watching and for being kind enough to comment. I live north of Seymour, very close to the Bartholomew Co. line.
Loved this! I have a lot of cousins but don’t really know any of them! I have 2 quilts my grandma made one is unfinished the other is falling apart but so grateful to have them!
I love your Stitchy name! As grandmothers, we all want to leave a legacy to our grands. Yes, connecting to my cousin has been amazing. Thank you for going along on my journey. ❤
I really enjoyed your visit and the quilts are a real treasure. Use and enjoy them. I just had this conversation with by best friend. You can not take them with. You can use them carefully 😉
To put them in a closet seems like a wasted opportunity. I agree with you. I need to have them where I can see them and appreciate them. Thank you for taking the time to comment and give me input. ❤
I loved Lisa's Primitive Hare project, it looks great on that fabric. Loved the whole idea of the video, heartwarming to see how yt brings people together. And , of course, loved your family's quilting treasure, congratulations for everyhting!
I so enjoyed your video with your cousin. The quilts are beautiful. I live in Southern Indiana too. I grew up in Starlight, a small area near Floyd's Knobs. I currently live in Georgetown. Love to hear from someone from Southern Indiana too.
Loved sharing the afternoon with you and your family. My mom was one of the youngest in her family. Some of my cousins are her age. I love talking to them about her. Don't see them or talk to them enough. The note from your grandmother is a treasure. I'm blessed to have one of my great grandmother's quilts and a couple of my mothers.
Loved the video. Hope you two had a good afternoon visiting. I have 2 of Mom's quilts, one unfinished. I took up quilting in order to quilt it. Like you, I don't feel up to the challenge yet.
GOOD LUCK! I’m sure you’ll great. The good thing about quilting and stitching is that we can always rip out if needed. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. ❤
Very nice visit today ladies. So glad you connected with each other again. I come from a family of quiltmakers too. My sisters and I each have many quilts from our mom. The ones made by her mother were utility quilts used by her large family during the depression and beyond. Great WIP parade Lisa!
That was nice seeing your quilts. I remember my grandmother’s quilts, and my great aunt and uncles quilts. I don’t know where they ended up, but I’m sure they are still around at a cousin’s house. Great video
Quilts are beautiful treasures; I have one of my grandma's quilts and my mom has her grandmothers quilt My Mom and I both quilt my sister does not quilt when we went to Shipshewana Indiana my mom and I always stopped at quilt stores and my sister would roll her eyes and be so bored LOL. Enjoyed meeting Lisa and her cross stitch WIP parade.
Thank you Cheryl! I didn’t start quilting until I retired. It makes me appreciate the work my grandmother did. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I love hearing about everyone’s family stories. ❤
Nice. My grandma made all the grandkids and was almost done with the greats when she passed. Her and her two sisters hand pieced and quilted. They did use their clothes, and old shirts anything. My mom made us clothes out of old clothes too. Newspaper of brown butcher paper worked for them. I am from Missouri and my dad had relatives in Ill and IN. Went there a lot as a kid. I sure enjoy your RU-vid it’s like visiting memories.
Your words are so kind. Playing with my cousins was the highlight of my week when I was growing up. Family is everything. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. ❤
What a blessing to have such treasures. I’ve only quilted small table wear but the last year I’m stepping into making more blocks for quilts so hopefully I can complete sone quilts to pass on. I’ve loved crocheting, sewing and cross-stitching for a while but I think quilting is my new love! ❤️
Watch out! It can be addictive 😀. Honestly, without my hobbies, I think I’d shrivel up and blow away. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. ❤
Teresa, my next video is going to address the floss storage issue. I think I’ve found a solution that I’ll be happy with. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. ❤
