With a little one give yourself some grace. It's hard with little hands into everything. :) My "baby" is 16 so that definitely helps. Cardmaking is my full time job so the stitching and quilting are my hobbies and are worked on after my assignments are done.

Love that you’re sharing more of your projects and interests with us! I had never thought to zigzag stitch to keep the fabric from fraying. Brilliant and I’m definitely going to try that! What size fabric did you start stitching the A Moment In Chalk pattern on? I’m not sure how to figure up how big of a piece to start on. Can’t wait to see it once you’re finished!
@NicholSpohrLLC
@NicholSpohrLLC 2 года назад
It depends on the size/count of the fabric and how much or a border you want around the edge. I use this calculator to figure the size to cut my fabric: www.fatquartershop.com/cross-stitch-calculator

Thank you! I looked at the pattern, but I’m not sure which are the correct numbers to input. It lists 135x135 and 317x317. I’ve always used kits before but that pattern is gorgeous!

Hello Nichol! Bless you!! You are in my prayers. Physical therapy was PAINFUL! Bending the knee is so important and SO PAINFUL! Do it anyway😭😭😭 I love cross stitching! I did a Holly Hobby embroidery quilt block, 12 of them, and made a twin size quilt with them and a cute twin sheet. Awesome Flosstube #2! Since Flosstube #1, I dug out my cross stitch & am working on my UFO (Un-finished Objects) of which I have several. Guess I can rename it to WIP! 😉. Love that you share your quilting. I am interested in quilting, but don’t dare get started on this until I complete my UFOs. I look forward to your finishing video as I have several cross stitch pieces completed but not finished. I have my eye on that Hive Rules chart as soon as I wrap up some of my UFOs. Nichol this is so exciting. I’ve watched your card videos for the last 7 years and have always been very inspired by you. I have been quilting for the last 2 years now and am in love. Also I have been wanting to pick cross stitching up again. I have not stitched for many years. I think I’ll do the Bats and Boos and the Flea Market (Lori Holt’s pattern). You've reignited my love of cross stitching in particular but I am loving the quilting also. My question is: I am never felt confident enough to stitch on linen as suggested for the Lizzie Kate patterns. Could you perhaps recommend an evenweave that is comparable to linen that as a beginner, I could try? Thank you so much for both the Flosstube and cardmaking videos:-). I hope your knee will feel much better real soon. Take special care. Linda

Nichol, I am so sorry you have not been feeling well. I have several friends who have had knee replacement and/or hip replacement and everyone agrees knee surgery is the worst, so you have all my sympathy on your knee surgery. It's so hard to stay off our legs too! I'm also glad you figured out your aspirin in the morning issue. I can't take anything in the morning -- vitamins or anything -- but I learned that as a kid. Thanks for sharing your work; I spent the past two weeks watching all kinds of floss tube videos, before this I only ever watched Jean Farish! I also like Jordan Fabrics' RU-vid videos for quilting basics, and I subscribed to elisabethanncanstitch on RU-vid because she does cross stitch and quilting and just started a cute quilt along. I'm not participating because I'm pretty committed and she's starting it immediately, not enough time for me to get in the right "state of mind." She also has some tutorials on making project bags that I liked. Feel better and take care of yourself! I'm looking forward to your next video!

My senior dog had skin problems too-we weren't sure if it was allergies, but he would itch himself crazy and get sores that would break open. It went away when we gave him Apoquel, but we found he had to stay on it continuously or he would itch his sores back again. Apoquel is a little pricey, but they have a rewards system on their website that you upload your receipt and for every so many points they load money onto a gift or debit card which you can use at any Veterinarian's office. He was on quite a few medications that they have, so I was always able to use the rewards for his vet visits. I haven't cross stitched for a long time-do you still use embroidery hoops? (Probably just aged myself!)

Nichol, have you tried CBD for your dogs allergies. It might help. (I’d be happy to do some research.) I have one of your pencil pouches and love it! At one time in my life, I was a great seamstress and made all of my clothes. I’ve done cross stitch, needlepoint, petite point. If it involved a needle and thread I did it. After developing carpal tunnel, major surgery was done and discovered that my bones were also growing together. After the surgery, the only thing i can do now is crochet very slowly.🤗

I serge the edges of my fabric. Makes life so much easier. For the dogs, do you have a doggie dermatologist around your area? Have them checked for Malasezzia. I knew terriers get it but apparently so do ShiTzus. Maybe Malaseb shampoo will help. The ShiTzu I had, needed to wear a tee shirt to keep the airborne allergens off of his skin.

I don't stitch full coverage patterns. I follow a RU-vidr who does and they are beautiful but those intimidate me!

@@NicholSpohrLLC Ooo, I bet they’re pretty though! You should look into diamond painting, it’s cross stitch with gems that you stick into a double sided tape pattern. Super relaxing, and fairly cheap to get into!

I am recovering from a massive surgery so you have been a large part of my recovery, from card videos and now Floss Tube videos. I am so glad your starting to feel better. Love all the in process projects you have that you are working on, can't wait to see everything finished. You often refer to having projects slated to be worked on on a certain day, do you keep a calendar as to what projects to work on when? Also have you ever thought of doing a small stitched or quilted block that you use on a card instead of patterned paper or an ink blended background. I hope your fur babies start feeling better soon, have you tried putting fish oil on their food, that helps with skin issues. Thank you for floss tube and of course all of your card videos.

Hi Melissa! I am so sorry to hear you're recovering from surgery. Sending speedy healing and get well wishes your way! For Stitch May-nia I did print off a calendar from the Fat Quarter Shop to write in my plan and then I created a planner spread for my planner to keep track of what I stitch on which days. :) I know stitching on cards is super popular the last few years (and I am afraid to admit this) but I am not a fan. 🙈 The time commitment for stitching or quilting isn't something I want to put on a card. HOWEVER, I love the look and admiring others who stitch their cards. I think it's beautiful!

Catching up with your Flosstube. So much fun. I’m looking forward to your pillow finishing videos as I’ve never put a zipper into the back of my pillow or made a custom pillow form. Forgot to mention in your last video, I also machine bind my quilts. I used to do them by hand but my rheumatoid arthritis guided me in a different direction. Thanks again.

I would love to see your first quilt. I am a total old school cross stitcher. I masking tape it because I can't sew a button on. I also use a loop? loom? frame? I'm not sure of the right terminology for it. I know you mentioned that you don't use one and I would love to see how you stitch without one. I would be concerned with tension. However I would LOVE to not have to use one. It is so cumbersome.

Your video has inspired me to give it ago again. Magnifiers and large print will be a big help. I have probably 50 to 60 finished pieces that are stored in a box I have never had framed. You gave me a gentle nudge that all those months working on a project, that picture doesn’t deserve to sit in a box. Thank you for reminding me of something that makes me very happy. Keep inspiring.

I don’t really do much cross stitching anymore but you’ve inspired me to maybe get it out. I have tons of supplies. What I don’t understand is how you cross stitch without a hoop? How do you do that? And yes please take care of that knee 😊

Hi Connie! I used to always use a hoop and about 7 years ago I switched to the stitch in hand sewing method. There are some tutorials out there on it and if there's enough interest I could do a demo/tutorial here on my channel. There are still times I will use a hoop depending on the fabric.

These videos are so fun. I’m so happy you decided to do this. So now that I know you are doing Q&A’s, here goes for this week. Floss; I know you said that you didn’t wind on bobbins any longer so what is your method for storing both excess and leftovers? Also, do you have a method for handling your floss for a specific project? I’ve seen the ruler type tool that has the holes where you can put your floss skein through. I’m not sure if this is very practical. I also noticed that you had floss skeins on a large ring, is this your preferred choice? So many questions, so little time! Thank you again and I’m glad to hear your knee is improving.
