Since you mentioned this video, I was curious so I watched. If I were an avid cross stitcher (which I’m not) I would NEVER tackle anything full coverage or where you park. That would drive me utterly insane! So much confetti, so many threads, no thank you! Just looking at it baffles my mind. I don’t know how you do it!!! Of course it’s beautiful when it’s done but NO!! 🪡🧵😵‍💫

Thank you Debra! Full coverage is not really any harder than a regular cross stitch - just takes longer. If you are a bit intrigued maybe try a small chart that is full coverage. Heaven and Earth Designs even has some charts that are begnner charts - they have less confetti I think and can be realistically done on 14ct fabric without ending up the size of a blanket.

Hi Karla, great video lesson and thank you for your time. Karla, I would like to see more on how you manage the multiple needles. Do you have one or a couple of minders you use. I did notice when parking for the next diagonal, you removed the needle. Is there a video for your needle process?
@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 2 года назад
While I am still actively using a parked thread (like it is just a bit further up on the diagonal I am working on), I keep the needle threaded and use several needle minders to hold them. As you saw, if I park in the next diagonal I take the needle off and tuck the thread behind a needle minder to keep it out of the way. I started doing this because I felt it was a pain to keep threading the needle and while I still mostly do things the same way, now that I have been stitching for a few years it is not as big a deal to thread my needles - I can do it pretty fast and easily. A lot of the process is trial and error. You need to just try few different methods and find what works well for you. I kind of hate ending threads so I will keep parking as long as there is place to park that is relatively near to where I am stitching. But some people can't stand all the hanging threads so they would rather end the threads and keep everything looking neat. Happy Stitiching!

HAED stands for Heaven and Earth Designs. They have a website with lots and lots of charts. I usually only get the quick stitch ones although I do have a few full size charts that will probably never get done. They have a nice wish list feature, so if you go to search the site just put charts you like on your wish list and then wait until they have a sale (which is often and usually 50% off- just sign up for their e-mail notifications) to stock up on the charts you love.

Do you always fully complete both legs of the stitch before moving on to the next one? I notice some people will just do a run of stitches with only half a leg, then turn around and go back completing the other leg. I find it confusing to know which to do

@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 4 года назад
I am certainly no expert but from what I have read (and done) I use a size 24 needle on 14ct and maybe 16ct, size 26 on maybe 16, 18 and 20 ct and size 28 on 22. I think it also depends on if you are using 1 or 2 strands and going over 1 or 2 threads. I like size 26 best but on 14 ct it can be too small. 28s are hard to thread but when I use my 22ct hardanger I may need to give in and use the 28s

Karla, this was a perfect demo for me! Thank you so much. My full coverage starts are pretty messy but this will really organize them. Questions: Do you keep the needle on the threads that are hanging? Meaning you have multiple hanging needles? Do you use the front loop start on all your stitching as well as the pin stitch ending be it HAED or not? I’ve never heard of pin stitch and I’ve been stitching for quite awhile... always ran under back threads. Also never looped start in front or with three threads. Only back. Going to check out that video demo also. You are a very good teacher. BTW.... love your nails.... if you do them yourself you need to post a demo video :-) thanks again!
@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 4 года назад
Thanks so much for watching Lucy!! I do leave my needles on while I am stitching on my HAED. I use several needle minders to kind of corral them so they are not hanging loose. I take them off when I am done for the day and put my project away. I use the front loop start all the time unless I am using overdyed thread - but for regular DMC I always use it. I usually use the pin stitch to end also, especially on Aida - but if for some reason I don't feel like using it or there will be no new stitching in the area to hide it I just run my threads under a few stitches on the back. My nail are actually press on/glue on nails. I love having long pretty nails but my own nails never look that great when I do them myself, I never wait long enough for them to dry, they chip very easily etc. I also tend to mess with my nails out of boredom or stress, but I don't do it as much when I have the fakies on. They are so pretty nowadays - not like the 70s press ons that looked super awful. I usuall give my nails a few naked days every couple of weeks justt to let them breathe but I alway try to have them look nice during my videos. The ones in this video are from Kiss USA (I got them on sale :-) !)

@@lucycraft1 Thank you so much Lucy!! Which FB stitching group are you in - just curious...I wish I could spend as much as I wanted on all the patterns and floss that I see but I am trying to be wise and practice knowing the difference between need and want. I saw a pattern yesterday that I really like...I put it in and out of my cart three times before I said enough and walked away from the computer. If I still want it after I get my holiday bonus at work I will get it but I need to remember when I get that itch to get another pattern that I have enough already to keep me stitching every day for several years. I do get a bit jealous when I watch some FlossTubers and they show haul that must be a couple of hundred dollars in almost every video, and bag clubs and floss clubs and box clubs which I can not afford, but mostly I can just enjoy their enjoyment. I am glad to know that my need to be a bit more frugal is not a turnoff.

KarlaBeingCrafty I am so with you...those clubs can kill you...lol! I don’t belong to any of those. The floss ones tempt me most. Oh I belong to alot of FB groups but the one I posted your channel with a lot of members is Cross Stitch Unlimited.... gotta watch for the drama on it though on occasion over dumb stuff.... but it does have a lot of variety. There are so many groups out there. Remember....it’s two separate hobbies....stitching patterns and collecting patterns....see now don’t you feel better!!!😁

@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 4 года назад
So far I have always used two strands on my full coverage projects and one reason is because I like to do a loop start from the front. If you are not familiar with the loop start from the front I made a short demo back in July (my first demo). I like this start because 1) I can do it from the front and my full coverage projects are not on a frame that is east to get at the back and 2) it does not add any bulk to the project at all. I hope this helps - Happy stitching!

Thanks for your quick reply. I too use the loop start, so I understand what you mean by loop start. More specifically, I am trying to learn how to start the threads that have been snipped rather than parked and have no loop. Is a pin stitch start a good start for those threads? I am having such better results after watching this video several times. Thank you so much!

Hi, my name is Karla and I’m a floss licker lol( me too). Love the video and it has motivated me to start looking for a full coverage to start January 1st. I want to do a disney one but not sure what yet. Question, how far will you park your thread? Is it just use it until you can’t go any more?
@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 4 года назад
I will park in the next diagonal and even in the next, next diagonal if it is sort of on a straight line. I guess I will go about 10 to 20 stitches away (it is kind of subjective )Honestly i just don't like ending threads so I would rather park it. Sometimes I end up with two strands of the same color if I am using a color and it meets up with an already parked thread from a previous diagonal. So I either park one of them in the next diagonal (This happened in my demo) or if there is nowhere left to park then I end the shorter piece of floss.

Most of the parked threads do get stitched over. I don't think this method is any messier than any other full cover method - in fact it might be a little neater just because you don't end up with so many threads that are run other other stitches to anchor them

@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 3 года назад
I am not totally sure what you mean, but I think you are referring to the big lollipop needle minder on the fabric. I gather the treads together and wrap them around the needle minder. This particular needle minder works really well for this because it is so big (but actually it is not great as a needle minder - the magnet is not strong enough for the thickness of the FIMO)

I use several needle minders on my work to corral my threaded needles, Sometimes when I tug on the next thread to use the needle wants to stay with the minder and un-threads but for the most part I don't have a problem keeping the needles threaded.

@karlabeingcrafty1089
@karlabeingcrafty1089 4 года назад
The Diagonal method just works best for me. People who do columns often complain about seeing lines in the finished work and diagonal stitching seems to solve that. I like working just the 10 stitch rows and stitching full coverage this way keeps me from making mistakes. But there is really no wrong way to stitich and every stitcher just needs to find the method that is themost fun for them :-)
