Your stitching is always beautiful but your beading is exquisite. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! There's something very special about those tiny beads of glass, truly magical!

Those peapods are AMAZING! So happy you were able to complete your box. It's so satisfying to cross an oldie off the list. It turned out so very lovely. I hope you get the full use of your thumb back soon. 💚

Thank you! I enjoyed the peapods so much - I've been dying to make those ever since I first saw an example on a 17th century beaded basket

Thank you for sharing your beautiful work. I love your embellishing with beads. The floral beaded picks are jaw dropping and is sending down the rabbit hole. Happy stitching, I hope your thumb heals quickly. ❤

Congratulations on the gloriana Box finish. I was talking to some stitching friends and we were all trying to think of what our oldest WIP was (some could be packed away) and either finish them or send it to its next life. I'm also in awe of the beaded flower bunches, Just Lovely!

I love how you’ve finished your Gloriana piece. It’s just beautiful. I look forward to seeing all your beaded leaves and flowers for your new basket. Watching it come together is such a pleasure. Can’t wait for October 1st. Bring on Thomas!

Thank you so much! I'm not sure how much time I'll have for the basket going forward but it's been such a joy to work on it during this period

Always love seeing what you have been working on. OMG those beaded flowers and pea pods are amazing as always. And the update on your box looks brilliant. I do admit all your other work is beautiful too. My father went into navy under age also, I believe many men did, which to me is admirable to say the least. Thanks for sharing. I sure hope your thumb heals quickly.

Thank you! It was a brave thing to go into war so young, at a time when our country desperately needed men to serve, but there's no doubt it extracted a cost on all our veterans, whatever age they were when serving.

The Gloriana Box is so pretty Katie! I could stare at the sparkle on the fairy queen for days! 😊 I remember you sharing your beaded basket a while ago. It is so sparkly and beautiful also. You have made me a sparkle enthusiast…😂😂

Love the "Make Use Of Present Time" finish!! My father served on an LST in the Navy also in the Pacific theater during WWII also. Perhaps they saw each other there? He said his craft was tied to the boat where they signed the treaty to end the fighting but that he had no clue about what was going on while it was happening. It was sort of odd that he was in the Navy as he never learned how to swim and was afraid of the water! :) He didn't even like being in water ankle deep. He passed in 2015, and I miss him dearly, but I have so many fond memories of him. I get teary eyed as I write this, but I know I will see him again. I hope my comment does not make you sad. Thanks for the video! ❤❤❤

That's an old sailor superstition - for centuries sailors have resisted learning how to swim. And your comment does not make me sad - I tear up thinking of my grandfather because I loved him so much, but it's out of love rather than sadness. I know that somewhere he's watching, and he's proud. I can also hear him telling me not to dig out that ugly old picture and I should be showing my other grandfather!!!

@@katiestrachanembroidery Yes, he volunteered for the Army first when the war broke out, but they would not take him as he had flat feet. So, then he volunteered for the Navy.

Congratulations on your finished box, the details are amazing. Your beading basket project is going to be so lovely and love your set up for it. Can’t wait to see the progress on your yellow casket. Loved the WIP parade. Sorry to hear about your thumb, I cut mine with a serrated knife cutting cardboard for a Pom Pom for a hat, not fun at all. Hope it heals quickly. Yes there is never enough time but your message about Make use of present time is a great reminder. My niece is teaching me how to do beaded bracelets, so much fun and of course she thinks we can do all these other bracelets too, yikes but I watched the videos so learning new techniques and crafts is so fun. Take care

Oof - that sounds painful! Thankfully my injury isn't nearly as bad as it first appeared and is healing quite quickly - I must have nicked an artery or something, it was hard to actually see what had happened under all the blood. It took fifteen minutes with a tourniquet at urgent care for them to be able to actually get to the wound, it was crazy. And all for the sake of what has turned out to be a tiny, tiny little slice in my thumb now that it's closing and I can actually see it!

Your Gloriana casket is amazing as are the elements of the beaded tray you're working on. I'm always so in awe of your talent! I'm a new-ish follower so forgive me if you've done this, but have you ever considered a beaded leaf tutorial? Or would that be too difficult? I loved the beaded mistletoe you created. Alternately are there other tutorials or classes you would recommend for a similar process?
@katiestrachanembroidery
@katiestrachanembroidery 32 минуты назад
Thank you! But no, this is just something I do for myself as there are several complications with teaching it. The technique is called peyote stitch, which is very easy to learn - I don't have anything specific to recommend as I taught myself many years ago from diagrams on the internet, but there are probably tutorials all over RU-vid on it if you search. It's just like bricking Legos together, but with needle, thread and beads instead.
