I just found 2 sets of the Dynaflow pots at the goodwill for $2.99 each! I am so excited to use them to make linings for my lampshades! Thanks for your great tutorial!!!
You've sold me on fabric paints as opposed to RIT dyes for dyEing my fabrics! I so nervous about RIT dye that I bought some but never even opened it! This seems much safer! Thanks so much!
Thank you for this video Michelle. I have a DynaFlow pack that I have had for years and never used. Time to get it out now! This was the easiest dyeing tutorial I have seen on You Tube.
You could try to get rid of the red in the brown if you mix green on it, I paint on oil and watercolor and the theory of color is that with the three primary colors you can get any color and since in the red there is no yellow or blue mixing both with red you get brown, only blue you get grayish, only yellow you get a ocreish
Thank you so much for the tutorial. You are a great teacher. I have tried all your techniques and they were so easy. I love how all my fabric turned out. Thanks again❤️❤️❤️❤️
With thy needle and thread has some wonderful patterns coming out. Also a Flosstuber I’ve found I think you might like is Lock-A-Bee Stitches. Her finishes are different. Thank you so much for your videos. I look forward to the Sunday morning watch with my coffee.
Michelle, this is brilliant! Excellently executed tutorial, exactly the information needed. Thank you for this and all your floss tubes. I have gleaned so much information from your channel, keep up the fabulous job!
I am so excited to see this. I love this paints because they don’t take up so much space. I need a piece of sky, with stormy clouds and I’m so excited to try.
Love! The fabric looks gorgeous. You were thorough and clearly explained the techniques you used - I really appreciate that. I have dyed fabric with RIT and coffee/tea, but its obvious I’ve been missing out. Thanks for the inspiration - in this and every other video. Look forward to seeing you again soon - stay happy.
Loving the Huckleberry Farm Sampler and wow - you’ve outdone yourself with this video - v excited to try this. I think there’s going to be a run on these dyes 😜
What a bonus! Two videos in one week❤️. I have had a set of the dynaflow paints forever. This is inspiring me to have a go. I’ve been wanting to dye with the procion mx dyes I used way back when and still have a lot of but have been a little intimidated because it is more complicated and I have nowhere other than my kitchen to work (although when I did use them I was in NYC my kitchen was a typical Manhattan apt. kitchen - long and narrow. So I’m not sure why I’m so tentative...). But this dynaflow technique is so easy. I will try this one.Thank you Michelle. Have a lovely week.
I saw a floss tub about New Releases I saw a chart you might want to check out it is by Kathy Barrick called Amelia Prescott and How Her Parents Did Educate Her it has a math chart in it the design. I am not sure of the release date.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I went right over to Amazon and ordered the paints. I typically use Rit Dye .... I will be trying this now. Your fabrics look beautiful.
Great video. I have these paints and had tried them once with disappointing results BUT I didn't read instructions and had rinsed them in cold water ,thus washing them out.🤪 I loved the results you got so will be having another go , this time doing it correctly lol. Thank you Michelle, take care
Loved watching this video. You mentioned that you had seen Midnight Ride stitched on bright green? Would you know where? I’m trying to picture it with the design and colours and can’t imagine it on a bright green fabric.
Your fabric came out beautiful! I was experiencing a bit of anxiety that you got some on your counter. LOL! Other than that you made it look so easy. I saved this video to watch another time when/if I am ready to try dying/painting my own fabric. Thanks for a 2-video Sunday morning!
Michelle, how do you iron fabrics when using RIT DYE ? I dyed almost 40 pieces different colors ,it's so much fun ! Most turned out beautiful, each one different. I just bought. 3 more colors to try. I sew on Aida and it worked great ! Everyone just have fun with this ,it's cheaper than buying hand dyed too! Will check out the DYE-NA-FLOW also.💕
I’ve not had a problem ironing dyed fabric although I can never get mine as flat and beautiful as the ones I’ve bought!! But good enough..it all works out fine when you’ve stitched on it!
What fun! Great job! So, if I'm interpreting this correctly, you need to crumble and bake to get lots of mottling? Line drying seems to even out the color.
New to your channel, I love the video. Have never seen it done with fabric paints. You’ve made it look so easy and fun and seem to have more control. I am definitely going to give this a try. After is is ironed could you was it and not have it bleed? Thanks for a great video!
Yes I believe so. According to the paint instructions, once it is ironed then it’s colourfast - you can wash it and tumble dry it if you want to. Because they are paints for clothes they have to be colourfast and washable 😁
I am excited to try this ordered the dyna flow package. Can you tell me what are the other colors that you used in the larger jars. Thanks so much for the wonderful tutorial
Thank you for sharing your dyeing method. I have once experimented with this dye, yet didn’t like the result. I remember using the dye on dry fabric and then watering it down. For sure I will give your method a try. Have you tried overdyeing yarns with dynaflow?
Great video. Have you ever used procion mx dyes? I use them for ice dyeing dress fabrics. I was going to record a youtube video giving it ago with aida. As it is a powder dye spotting maybe a issue 🤔. Watching your video has inspired me to give it a try.
I've always used Rit dye and I love this option. You mentioned that you can rinse most of the dye out if you don't like it. Does this mean you can't rinse a finished stitched piece? Or does the color set once it's dry? I usually rinse my pieces, especially large pieces to remove any natural oils from my hands. (I have a fear of marks showing up in 20 years).
The instructions say that the fabric is colourfast once ironed so it’s the heat that sets it. It’s a paint that’s primarily used for clothes so it’s described as washing machine safe. I don’t wash my stitching so I’ve not tried it but I would definitely try it on a small piece before stitching on it 😁
Who is the designer for your "American Gardens" pattern? This was a great tutorial and I finally think I might be able to dye some fabric. Thank you so much!
It is Historische Stickmuster which you can by from their website of if you have iOS then you can download the Silk App for free and then purchase it from there to use on a device
The ironing sets the colour - the baking just gives mottling. These a fabric paints so if you were painting on a tshirt you wouldn’t bake it...that’s just a quirk for us stitchers!!!!! 😁
Hi Michelle. You do such beautiful work! I noticed that darling witch pillow that is hanging behind you on the shelf. Can you tell me the name of the pattern? Thanks much!
I use white when I’m doing a tutorial so folks can see the true colours but there’s no reason you couldn’t use cream, you would just achieve a slightly different tone
Jacquard are an American company so you should be able to get them. I’m not sure about their archival quality, I can’t find anything in their website. They are proper fabric paints however but you would need to contact Jacquard directly
Hi Michelle! I have a quick question. I always wash my project after I'm done stitching in gentle soap and water. Will that affect the coloring of the dyed fabric, and will it bleed into my stitches? Thanks a million .
To be honest I’ve never tried it. I don’t wash my projects, usually because I’ve used overdyed floss somewhere. On the package these paints say colourfast and washable once ironed so I should think so but I would recommend trying a small project/ few stitches first 😁 Let me know how you get on!
loved the tutorial! Question though. In this video you're saying DMC is discontinueing their 38 count linnen. However in your previous video I'm fairly certain you're telling us they're discontinueing their 32 count linen. Are they discontinueing both or did you make a misstake in one of the videos? Or did I understand something wrong? ^^'
I definitely said they are discontinuing 38 count in this video and that’s what they are discontinuing. Definitely not 32...there would be an uproar!! I’ll check my other video
Plum street samplers has an old chart out called Vexation Sampler that is math based. It has a multiplication table, little red house and this verse... Multiplication is vexation Division is as bad The rule of three doth puzzle me And practice drives me mad. I'd send you a photo if I knew how.
Thank you so much for sharing this process, using the Dynaflo paints! Looks easy and fun. Hope I have good luck with them too. I do have a question. I have quite a bit of 18 & 14 count white aida that a friend gave me. Have you done this on any aida?
I haven’t done Aida myself but there’s no reason why it wouldn’t work. They are all purpose fabric paints and the technique is universal. It may be worth checking a small amount with the baking as some aida is not 100% cotton
