FlossTube Special Edition - My stitchy spot, how I stitch and a review of the Ben-Q e-Reading Lamp

Hi Everyone - welcome to my video about how and where I stitch. As I said at the beginning, because I stitch in-hand my set up is super simple. I use the sewing method because I find it the easiest in-hand and because I can balance my need to create a beautiful stitch and my need for speed!
In this video I show you my knot method - its effectively a waste knot but on the reverse side. I use the knot to help my fingers determine where the tail of the thread is, and usually end up trimming it off. I did try the pin stitch method I mentioned in the video and I do like it - finally! I'll probably still end up doing both..

So even on the higher counts 38+ you don’t need glasses, light and/or a magnifier to see? Oh you are lucky. I’m old and the eyes are not what they were, and I love the higher counts - that’s all I stitch on, but need the light and magnifier to see. Takes a few minutes to get everything all set up. If I don’t have at least an hour to stitch, it is almost not worth it. Love it though - it just means I have to set aside time. Loved your demonstration. Thanks for sharing as always. ❤️❤️❤️

I need light but nothing special other than that..46ct I would need magnification but it’s not my jam. I’m very lucky with my eyes…other bits seem to be falling off at a rate of knots but the eyes are ok 🤣

I do my stitches the same direction as you :-) I don't stitch in hand manly because I can't see the holes properly and because for me the stitches don't lie neat, I discovered railroading years ago and now I can't stitch any other way, if stitches don't lie neat they have to come out, probably why It takes me so long to stitch anything.

I love stitching in hand. I can’t do Algerian Eyelets in hand because I can’t get the tension right. I try to avoid eyelets. I prefer strictly just crosses but sometimes speciality stitches are required. Your stitches are beautiful. I stitch in a lift chair recliner. Had to get it because I had several abdominal surgeries. It was great when recovering. It is a comfortable chair. I can use my Elan Lap Stand when I use a hoop or Q-Snap. Stitching in hand is much more portable and less fussy. I loved watching you stitch. I use a floor model magnifying light which works well for me. I just have to make sure I cover the magnifier. I made a little draw string bag to put over it. It helps to keep the dust off the magnifier, as well. I am not stitching so fast to kick up a lot of dust but dust just happens…why? Love the piece you are stitching. Until next time, have some fun with all your stitching!!❤️🧵🪡❤️

I sat and stitched while you did. Had to chuckle at the similarities .... I was stitching in hand, with two red threads, over 2. Then you said you had to do 6 stitches. I looked at my chart and I had to do 6 stitches. And we even stitch in the same order top left to bottom right first! But I did learn about knotting the end first which has helped me already! Wonderful video!

The snoring is perfect 😍 I always have a snoring companion as well. For me it depends on the project, whether I stitch in hand or in qsnap or hoop. Full coverage I always do in a qsnap, samplers I tend to stitch in hand mostly.

I really enjoyed seeing how you stitch - I've stitched in hand (in a similar though not identical way) for the best part of 50 years and have never used a hoop or frame, although I occasionally do for freestyle embroidery. I love not having to wrestle with a frame and being able to just pick up my stitching and go without having to hoop up,though I'm not sure I'm any faster! Do persevere with the pin stitch - I learnt how to do it a couple of months ago by watching a video by Xstitchmd which was so clear and I now use it all the time (proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks! 😂) I did laugh when you said about your dog lying in front of the fan - I've just been trying to persuade my daughter's cavalier to come into the paddling pool with me to no avail, he runs in and settles down in front of the air conditioning unit as if to say 'Why get wet if you don't have to?' 🤣🤣

My Albus is a Dalmatian - he does appear in some of my earlier videos (usually disgracing himself!). My main tip is just to be determined - it takes a while to get it sometimes but you’ll get there. Also it’s probably easier to start on evenweave and maybe 28ct? 😁
