Attempting to make and attach fabric to a PVC scroll frame that I saw on Facebook.
Materials used:
4 90 degree elbow pieces
2 longer pieces of pvc that will be what you attach the fabric to (I used 3/4 inch pvc but if you want to use qsnap clamps you'll want 1/2 inch pvc)
2 shorter pvc pieces for the side
Clamps to attach fabric

Great video! Those clamps you fpund are pretty neat. My only note to add is if people want to use qsnap clamps then they should use 1/2" PVC instead of 3/4".

Kim, can you point me to the Flosstube video wherein you demo the PVC scroll rod? I watched it once but now can't find it. Thx!

@@magaliponcet5194 I couldn't find the video of how to make it either, and only found mention of it in #4 and #9. This one shows the 3/4 clamps straight onto the PVC before rolling and Kim's showed the clamps on top after rolling.

Any feedback on the PVC frame you made? Have you used it and did it keep tension?
@SNNGS

Agree, how is the tension with this frame. Tight like hoops or qsnap??

FYI, I tried this and found it works great for smaller projects - like 12” or less. For larger projects it was just too difficult for me to get the clamps on evenly and the frame wasn’t remaining stable. It’s a great idea, just not for larger projects.

Do you have an update on how it worked out for you?

You could put a center mark on the pvc top and bottom! I also use leader strips that are the length of my scroll rods and about 5in deep! I attached sticky back velcro rough side to my frame, soft side on the leader strips! Mark the center on these as well ! I also use suspender clips with twill tape for side tensioning! It works really well! Thanx for a really neat idea ☆

Perfect timing for your video. I'm planning to make my own scroll rods exactly like you've just done, and also a pvc floor stand. And you're right, no videos on making the scroll frame.

How well did it hold the tension on the fabric? I'm looking for something like this to help expand my stitching.

I love the idea. I’ve been looking at the store bought and they just aren't what I want or if they are close enough I can't afford them. I've got to check out those clamps. My worry is will they open enough for my quilt thickness.

Great video. I have a couple of large projects and needed a longer frame for them. I saw Kim's on her video and my husband made me a couple like that. I used the 1/2" PVC and it works great. One frame is 30" and one is 60" (for the large project). I used the qsnap clamps with them
@ebonydove2010

Hi question re your 60inch frame does it bow in the middle when you place lost of tension on it
@calicokitty6
@calicokitty6 4 года назад
@@ebonydove2010 My husband made me a center support that i wrapped in felt and put in the middle of the frame from top to bottom. I make sure it's not going under the rolled part. I also use the side tension clips to help keep my fabric taut. Seems to work o.k. for me.

How is the tension? Tight? Similar to hoops or qsnap?
@calicokitty6
@calicokitty6 Год назад
@@SNNGS Just like a q-snap. I cut a piece of felt into long strips and put them on top of my canvas before putting the clamp on. This makes it even tighter and easier to pull the clamp off when needed.

Can you tell us how the tension is? I can't for the life of me figure out how you maintain tension once it's rolled. Is it just that the PVC rods are hard to turn, and they keep fabric tight?
@CraftyGamingJamie
@CraftyGamingJamie 4 года назад
I can update you on the tension after I've used it more but I know that Kim Hollenback (spartan stitcher on Instagram) is using it on a I think supersize HAED and it's maintaining tension.

It's worked well so far. The sides feel a little loose similar to what happens in a scroll frame but it doesn't bother me enough to buy side bar tension clips.
@5CuteKittens
@5CuteKittens 3 года назад
@@CraftyGamingJamie Don't buy tension clips, make them. I use elastic hair bands and binder clips. Link 2 (or more) bands together, wrap them around your side bars, and then catch both bands with the clip before clipping it on your fabric. Works like a charm!
