This felt uncanny. A scripted wanderbot.

this was an amazing review, the way you describe a games thematic world and how that is explored through unique mechanics is brilliant!! cant wait to see more reviews if thats the plan :D

Cacoon is a game where I spend half an hour bashing my head against a wall trying to find a Moon Ancestor only to soft look myself and have to redo everything. It's one of my favorite games.

One game I found exceptionally unmissable? I'd say there's two that I found nearly perfect. First up, Tunic. A combination of at least three games in my eyes, the sense of discovery you manage to get from it simply exceeds the fun you'd get from the Zelda Souls gameplay of it. The mixture of figuring out the language myself, of figuring out the puzzles, and realizing everything you could do the whole time and all the moments of "Oh you son of a bitch" were just wonderful. The other is OneShot. An adventure game of sorts which gave me a connection to its lead character that I never had with any other, breaking the fourth wall in a way almost NO other game has, and I mean that without exaggeration. I HEAVILY recommend this game, and it's one you must go into blind. Meet Niko, and learn to care about Niko in ways you never have before.

Definitely Rain World simply because of exact;y what you said you feel extremely immersed and while there is dialogue it is sparse and not entirely apart of the core gameplay other than learning where you are. I've always liked your more talking videos simply because I find that content more enjoyable and relaxing and I'll be giving this one a go for sure this weekend if I got the time

Cocoon is one of the games of all time that is there and quite remarkable if you know how it works

Coocoon is strange and interesting world to play ball in. Many titles went and gone ether finished or left half baked in my library of games except Pyre. Pyre while might be one of the lesser known titles of Supergiant Games. Yet still Pyre sunk its way in to my memory in a way nothing else before. Even after my latest session I still found something new to laugh and cry about fully knowing what had to be done to close a chapter..

have you ever played fez? almost everything you said in this video made me think of fez. it is a wonderous game, and, even after 35+ years of playing games, is easily my second favorite game of all time (i don't think anything will ever dethrone mario 3 as my favorite), and that's even after more than 8 full playthroughs. fez is something so, so, so, so special, and i doubt there will ever be a game that equals it. this game, though, looks amazing, and, after i'm done with animal well, it's next on my list. also, since when have you done reviews like this? i don't think i've ever seen a straight up review from you. not complaining, mind you, i definitely enjoyed watching it.

I haven't played Fez yet. The dev was ardently against videos being made on the game, so I always felt weird about covering it. This is my first review, and I hope to make more to highlight games that I think are particularly unmissable.

@@wanderbots even if you don't play it for a video (and i think that, at this point phil fish wouldn't care at all if you did), play fez. and play it through completely blind (until the first ending). it is jaw dropping how good it is. and keep playing after that, even if you need a few hints (i'll admit, a few of the puzzles are obtuse and insanely difficult). there is so much there, from a content, aesthetic and musical standpoint, that i think that everyone shu8ld experience it at least once. also, after the first ending, a new mechanic is added that fundamentally changes the game and enhances the replay experience dramatically. i think you would really enjoy it. the way it conveys it's mechanics, as well as how the story is told, is as fresh now as it was when it released. every time i go back to it, i still find it to be an amazing experience. not to mention the soundtrack is, and the way it integrates into the gameplay, is so next level, that i can't think of any game that has matched it since. i was lucky enough to see disasterpiece play it live in the jam room at pax east (can't remember the year), and, out of the 1000+ live shows i've seen, it still remains in my top 20. side note: it kinda burns me up, but the year before fez released, i was working at demiurge while they were developing shoot many robots, although i wasn't on that team, and disasterpiece did the soundtrack for that game as well. wish i could've talked to him, but didn't know who he was at the time (he wasn't in house, but i was tight with the in house audio team and i'm sure i could've gotten in touch with him). his entire catalog is stellar. if you like chiptune (love it, myself), you at least have to check him out.

This is a wonderfui;l game, I sugest re-uploading this in wanderbot prime so the algorythm like it better, and it does not get burried.

I'm hoping that my output here is just low enough now that it won't get buried. Especially since I'm hoping to potentially relaunch Wanderbot Prime specifically for TTRPG's/Boardgames in a few months.

The initial explanation why it is so great sounds a little bit like an odd C64 game for which you lost the manual. It just *is* . xD

I played Cocoon when it was nominated for Thinky Game of the Year, and in a year of fabulous puzzle games, it just fell so flat to me. The game is very pretty, and I appreciate the ability to design a game that needs no language for the player to interact with it, but largely, the puzzles presented offered next to no ah-ha moments, and to me I think the flow state you describe, manifested in just 'going through the motions' in a way that felt bland and unfulfilling. I'm glad others enjoyed the experience of playing, but I find myself in the rare position of sitting so far on the other side of the fence. In any case I appreciate your videos as ever. Cheers.
