You can flow text into a shape in Inkscape using the ‘Flow into Frame’ text function. This function allows you to fill a shape or object with text, constraining the limits of the text to fit into the shape. Once you have the text in the shape you can adjust it’s appearance in several ways. You can change fonts and the size of the font, you can also utilise text alignment to create the style you are aiming for.
In this video I will show you how to use the ‘Flow into Frame’ function, I’ll demonstrate how to quickly and easily adjust the size of your text to fit the frame (well, I show you how to adjust the frame to get a perfect fit - much easier :-). I show you how to remove the frame, by either using the ‘Object to Path’ function to convert the text into a path or if you want the text to remain editable with the text tool, I show you how to hide the frame using the Objects dialog box to toggle the visibility of the frame.
A little bit of knowledge can go a long way - so lets get creative.

In this tutorial, I’m using the latest version of Inkscape - Inkscape 1.1.2

Hey, thanks for the video. So, if I want to give a gap (offset) between the text and the edges of the object (path) so that the text does not touch the container image, how do I do that? Thanks in advance...!

I'm not sure if there is an updated way to achieve a border/inset in Inkscape 1.2, but the way I've done it in the past is to duplicate (ctrl + D) the object I want to flow the text into, then inset the duplicate, flow the text then hide the duplicate object in the Layers and objects dialog box. I'm trying to flow text into a custom shape . It won't work. I created 2 rectangles, and used union to get my custom shape.

If the font is too big the text won't appear. Try flowing the text into frame, the text should disappear from it's original position, if this is the case then press ctrl + Z to back step. Use the text tool to highlight all of your text and reduce the font size right down, then try it again. Fingers crossed it will now work, you can then scale it up to fit you shape.

This is exactly what I needed only… I’m trying to get some names into the number 2 and my flow to frame won’t work. It work last year but this year, it’s not working. It either deletes the text or doesn’t do anything. Could you offer any advice? Many thanks

It won't work if you haven't converted the 2 to a path (path - object to path). Also make sure the text will fit into the 2 otherwise it will seem to disappear - reduce the font size.

I altered my original response, to give you 2 possible reasons why it may not be working - not sure if RU-vid alerts you to edited responses. Hope you manage to sort it.
