Today we’re trying a new set of mufflers based on Flowmasters website claims and online reviews Flowmaster Hushpower HP-2 Part #12518409 2.5” inlet/outlet Moderate sound (they claim)
The chambered 2 chamber or race one chamber are pretty loud without cats and long tube headers but l now have Flowmaster Flow FX box style mufflers and it's much more quite at idle to 2800rpm but has a real crisp solid clean performance sound 2800rpm up without any popping or crackling when slowing down with your foot off the gas petal got complements at the track with how it sounded in the burnout box and going down the track by numerous people
Flowmaster has a large spectrum of mufflers that range from loud to quiet. The super 10 being the loudest and the 50 series being quiet. The hushpower is in between.
Add a H pipe, and runs the tailpipe tips straight out the back, makes it quieter in the cab. Also the FlowFX is quieter than these (the oval case anyways) they're a Magnaflow copy, try those.
@@hunterb3386 they look like the original bucket seats, which I think are the same in the blazer. I ordered my 78 BIG10 new and looked at one on the dealership lot that had buckets but I didn’t like the back of the cab behind the seat, it looked unfinished so I ordered the bench seat.
Don't know what all you do but the planes in the background and working on a chevy hits home. I'm an amt and Avionics tech at Endeavor air. Love this video.
Our shop is lucky enough to be at the Vernon airport bid you check the channels section we have 3 other channels. One that shows all the airplanes and helicopters around this airport. It’s a wonderful place to be!!!
I never gave a second thought to this type of muffler, but I think it might work for me. It's smaller and would work in a tight space that some of my cars have. An x or h cross over would mellow it out more. I am going to look into this.
Sounds very tough but engine doesn't exactly sound standard either and that always alters a vehicles note and acoustics of an exhaust. Sounds pretty wicked though. Great video! Thanks for sharing.👍😃
I recently put a large glass-pack muffler on my truck, and it's quieter now than with a Flowmaster Super 44. The one I used was an AP Xlerator. It's a straight through design so it flows well, but not objectionable at all. Seems to run better than with the Flowmaster.
@@drumrooster Cherry bombs made more power than what? The Flowmaster 44 or the AP glass-pack? I liked the Flowmaster sound, but I like the way the truck runs with the glass-pack, too.
Such a good video I understand what u sayin about mufflers I got a pair of thrush turbo style mufflers on a chevy 468 bbc I thought I would be quiter nope wife come God lord its still loud I lmao!!!
You’re right to a point, but from experience I can tell you that a high performance engine vs. a stock engine changes everything. I have a bronco with a 429 with good flowing heads and high compression; headers, 3” exhaust and a flowmaster 50 welded to a 40 on each side that is still pretty loud. Needless to say, I understand the struggle.
I put a 2 chamber summit muffler, so flow knock off, on my 88 k2500 and love the sound, but I think it would be too loud for you. It's factory Y pipe, so 2" down to a little under 3" and then I put a straight piece of 3" back to the muffler and got a diesel suburban pipe to go from muffler over the axle and a single passenger side exit. I think it cost me maybe 200$ all together, but I can weld and fab so all DYI. I like it loud! But it's not poppy or snappy. More rumble. I'm running a 355 that's pretty mild, probably 325-350hp.
I like your cribbage blocks. I have 12 of these I made years ago. They are cheap to make and stable to set a vehicle on. I require a lot of room to remove transmissions on vehicles. A little rough on your customers car????
I bought a stainless steel kit for a 2018 F-150 5.0 and it came with a 40 series Flowmaster. After I saw it I ordered a 70 series and an auger to weld in the pipe in front of it from Speedway’s dirt tack section. After the kit was in stalled I had to rivet in a deflector infront of the end tips to make it livable on the road. Sound great now….
I had a question concerning the installation of the Flowmaster 12518409 HP-2 mufflers onto 2-1/2 inch pipe. The mufflers only come in 2-1/2 inch opening. Do you have to weld around the very edge, and if so, do you still get a good seal and smooth surface inside the pipe? Will it hold up to shock, etc. Also do you have to use special welding techniques and/or material due to the mufflers being made of stainless or did you just use stainless pipe? Don’t know much about welding! Thanks!!
They are made to fit directly over a 2-1/2 inch pipe. They will slide right over the pipe. And these aren’t stainless so no tig welding required. Just need a mig welder
Was thinking those myself. What's your specs if ya dont mind please🙏? I built a Vortec 350 long block with flat tops, .035" quench, 10.4:1, 220/224* .495/.502* 110° on 107°. Love the sound of an H pipe exhaust they put in the fox bodies. Like to have a sound CLOSE to that. My plan is 2.5 h pipe with _________ Mufflers. Absolutely no idea what to pick. Not a fan the glass pack sound though.
You think these are the loudest mufflers you've ever heard? It is hard for me to imagine them being louder than the straight-through Cherry Bomb glasspacks. I have a set of 18" Cherry Bombs in a 2.5-inch dual exhaust system for a 445ci Ford FE. I was going to try these HP-2's to quiet it down as the glasspacks are just insanely loud, but I have very limited space to work with for a muffler. This review is making me question if the HP-2's would be worth it. I love the sound of the glasspacks though.
I went ahead and bought a pair of these HP-2's to replace the Cherry Bombs on my FE. I disagree with this video, the HP-2's are not the loudest mufflers - they are substantially quieter than Cherry Bombs (if you consider Cherry Bombs a 'muffler'). These are louder than what Flowmaster lets on, but they do sound great and attenuate the maximum exhaust volume well. I would recommend these on a V8 application where space is an issue.
"Hushpower' mufflers are great when they are new but unlike other conventional Flowmaster mufflers which have baffles in them (which last a long time)to deflect noise the Hushpower style depend on a mesh type screen to deflect noise which burns out quickly.
I don’t know the part number but they were 1.75” primary tubes. 350 SBC, aluminum manifold, Quick Fuel carb, big lumpy cam but I don’t know the specs on it. It was a used motor we didn’t know the history on
i just finished the cat back on my r32 vr6 VW engine with the series 80 and i love the sound. im losing some scavenging through second. so i might res delete to see if that helps
Of course itll sound louder inside the building but i got a set of hp2's on my 65 impala and not only does the car sound cool and so far everyone digs it they sound realky cool when u go up thru the gears(4 spd) about 3200 !🚛🇺🇸
@@atpmonstergarage I got the same ones in my 77 C10 but mine is long bed , when I see yours I think that's the way I will like to make mine looks like your😎😎
I have a 1983 T.A with a built 355 borded over .30 mild racing cam and lifters performance Holly intake Holly 750 4 barrel carburetor hooker headers what is the best mufflers for dual exhaust I want it to sound amazing like a nice race car any one have any ideas I'm replacing everything from the hooker headers back please would appreciate any one opinions
I’m actually a Magnaflow fan myself but I learned a lot from viewers during the last few exhaust systems we experimented with about how much compression you have completely changes the exhaust sound your going to have
Just go with the one chambers and be done I've ran the super 10 and the 44 series and bye far the one chambers are the best there on both of my trucks!!!
Holy crap! I LOVE the sound of those mufflers. I'm looking for that sound for my old Corvette 350. But it might be too loud for me. Let me know if you find that sound in a quieter package! 😎 Greetings from Tsawwassen.
@@100amps No cats back in 1978. You won’t see me installing cats on anything if I don’t have to. I’ve had tons of vehicles come in the shop running like crap getting bad fuel mileage because the cats were plugged. Yes they serve a purpose but I prefer without
@@atpmonstergarage Oh, I thought it was 72-ish that started. My 79 Corvette had a single cat originally. Magnaflow sells high flow cats. No idea what impact they'd have on tone.
Now I know who's doing all the burnouts I hear from my place , lol. I live literally 1 minute from the airport. I'll be sure to leave a patch with my 68 firebird as I go by when it gets here , another 3 weeks but it's comin. 🍻
@@atpmonstergarage just have to finish putting in my 402 bbc in my k5 to get this trade done , almost got all the parts so as soon that's together my buddy is going to deliver the firebird. I'll definitely swing by when I get it 🍻
I love 68 firechickens! The little old lady across the street from us when I grew up in Nanaimo (she was about 70 at the time) won a brand new '68 Firebird in a mall raffle. I used to watch that car come and go once a week for her grocery trips, thinking what a freakin waste of a beautiful car.
@@100amps it was probably in mint shape for the next guy at least. Nanaimo eh , haven't been there since my uncle lived on Jinglepot road in 1988 ish .
A little bit yes. The lack of an x-pipe doesn’t help but we wanted to see how they were on their own. It’s not something I could handle on a trip for a couple hours but around town it’s fun and tolerable
It’s a customers vehicle so I can’t quite remember the wheels on it but they were 15” with 295’s on the rear. I think it’s a 4/6” drop but not positive
Those sound nasty on that truck. I have a set of these on a Grand Marquis still with manifolds and 4 cats, and they're not nearly as loud. They do sound raspier than the Cherrybombs I had but the interior drone is way less.
It had less drone then I thought it would but still noticeable. Sounds better then the 40 series I think. I didn’t like the 40’s on Chevy motors. Sound great on 5.0 Mustangs though
@@atpmonstergarage X will totally quiet it down. From the looks of what you are doing you could sneak it in at the very beginning before you chopped the 90 up to curve out.
@@atpmonstergarage I just went out and measured the stock pipe going into the muffler and the O.D. was just under an inch and 3/4. Gotta figure something out there. The other thing that's cool about this is the lifetime warranty. If I could rig up a cup and ball system with springs, it could be easily removed.
@@atpmonstergarage I really think you should do it. For some reason the 304's aren't available. Just the black 409's. Being a car guy, I dont think anything could be more cool that seeing the Flowmaster embossed name on the back of my ride. Yours too. If they sound amazing even cooler yet!
Unfortunately I don’t know. It was a used motor the customer bought. Rollerized and was supposed to be around 400 Hp was all anyone knew. Sat around for years but sure is fun and healthy
They sound great--nice and meaty. There are too many fart cans out there, and this is a nice alternative. I've got them on my 4.0 '93 Ranger, and they rumble nicely, especially once they seat a bit. They're not what you'd call "quiet," but who wants quiet?
Its loud but it's muuuch less raspy qnd cracky than when you started the video. They said its the quietER of the two, not that it's quiet. 😉 It sounds like it should... If you want quiet, get their fitry series big block. Allvthe power, none of the noise.
