I can see the respect that they have for each other. No animosity at all. I can see these two being friends or close associates at most after the fight. Floyd is the best hands down. How can you not like a guy like Ortiz considering where he has come from and how real he seems to be.
One of the energy rushes fans receive from boxing is the anticipation. How the fight will go, who do you bet on to "WIN", do you aticipate a knock-out, will a fighter get tired and catch a second wind in the eighth round, can it go the distance. In the Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Tommy Hearns fight, Tommy won every round for about 10/12 rounds. Suddenly Sugar Ray received a second wind and that whole fight turned around right there and then.
Tupac stated in one of his songs, We wouldn't be here today if the old school hadn't paved the way. Lets apply that to the fight game today. Many great historical fighters worked liked Georgia mules and were paid like cheap labor. Fighters of today have been Blessed so give the history it's RESPECT. If you don't know where something came from, you damn well won't beable to predict where it's going. Stay focused. If you lose sight, you're liable to lose a fight.
One of the greatest fights of respect was Arron v. Aquillo. When Arron Pryor knocked down Aquillo; Arron was the first one that went to Aquillo extended his hand and said, get up "CHAMP". Aquillo got up and responded, You're the "CHAMP now. That was a fight of war but even more "RESPECT". You gotta respect the game or the game won't respect you! God Bless that fight and may Aquillo rest in PEACE!
@justen446 So Floyd fought a 50yr old DeLahoya? WOW......then how old was he when he fought Pacman? You know what, nevermind. No need in responding to you anymore than this. LOL
One day or another all fighters will take a loss or go down; and that includes the best of them and there have been many greats. Throughout history fighters go til they can't go anymore. Boxing is not a sport that breeds quiters. They make you take them down. You can't really appreciate a win if you've never taken a loss. The fact that you win doesn't always mean it was a good fight. Going to war getting down for a crown makes your name go around. You can lose and still give up a cold fight.
@jdezi4. at least that is stronger and faster yes. maybe hatton was in his prime es well but all his fights were at 140 before he fought mayweather. and I've never even thought hatton was good even when he was undefeated. Who else was in their prime? Refresh my memory
Alright. I'm a fan of boxing and have watched the big fights but don't know much about the dynamics of it. I'm curious about something that maybe people who box can weigh in on. So Mayweather has his famous and effective shoulder roll/ shoulder defense stance that gives boxers so much trouble. How effective would it be to just keep pounding on that shoulder when he presents it? I'd think that would hurt some wouldn't it?
Say what you will about Mayweather, he is still a fantastic boxer, you dont get to where he is without blood, sweat and tears. I look forward to seeing him and Ortiz go at it in September.
Man there are alot of haters... Give the man props. he is undefeated and a six time champ. anyone who can fight enough to reach a chance for the belt is a great fighter
i wanted victor win cause i like seeing fighters win over someone that is supposedly better, even though victor is the champion hes the underdog in this fight. but after watching this it made me want floyed to win. floyed was suprisingly humble while victor was the one talking smack. it was funny when victor flexed and floyd looked at his bicep like yeah pretty strong.
@virtuoso34 He wasn't stuttering when was talking to Brian Kenny of ESPN for 15 minutes. He wasn't stuttering when he talking to the The Rugged Man for 20 minutes on radio.
@AztecPrideX Well Rios is fighting smaller guys right now..so there is a ? mark about him...but from 135-140 he is going to be a force to reckon with. Maidana will definitely be around a long time, he almost beat Khan, and did beat Ortiz. Bradley is tough...it is not going to be easy to beat such a determined man as Bradley...He will be a star in boxing for awhile. Im keeping my eyes on Jorge Linares,..he is the most talented of all the future stars.
If Ortiz is disciplined and has a good conditioning trainer, he will do fine in maintaining pressure against Floyd and make it look easy on fight night. I haven't seen Floyd's footwork in his last couple of fights so it could be interesting to see what Victor will bring to the table.
mayweather is a great fighter with a unique style of boxing, i think we all can agree on that. mayweather is very smart fighter who has yet to lose a fight. in my opinion he is not the best fighter because he only fights against fighters he is sure he can beat. i know that beating any fighter at that level of boxing is not easy, but i believe that any fighter that wants to be remembered as one of the best should fight the best fighters out there....and right now that fighter is manny
@godzilla1077 yep, floyd was dominating on all the judges score cards. People need to seperate the hate they have for the man, and just be straight up.
The Prize Fight Profession does wonderful endeavors for it's fans. It fulfills a powerlesness in someone. If you've ever been bullied or pushed around in life, boxing will bring the fight out in you. Boxing will give you the heart to fight back and the will to whip ass. It removes fear. And for the women that attend weigh in's sometimes we go to check out the nut sack to the six pack and thats a fact!
@muchohumpty Sure he can do whatever he wants, but it gives insight into his personality. Plus, people like De La Hoya have indicated that he actually is very insecure behind the scenes as well.
@Kormack1 he said that twice before as well so whats new? when its time to sign the contract he's nowhere to be found. see its easy to talk but talk is cheap
Also, he refused all the random tests in 2009 when the fight's purse was at a 50/50 split. Now that it isn't at a 50/50 split, he wants to do testing? Suspicious.
@mike123luis thank you. All these people are acting like floyd cheated by sucker punching him. Even after the first punch, ortiz looks at the ref as if it was illegal. "Protect yourself at all times". Remember kid, you just smashed his face with your head, an apology is not gonna erase the damage you did during this multi million dollar championship fight.
Floyd stated that he will go toe to toe with Ortiz and if that the case he can forget about his winning streak that will be out of the door when hes tasting the canvas, PBF needs to play smart and get the UD, while Ortiz needs the K.O he cant really box as good when compared to his adversary PBF but then again PBF cant be offensive and inflict powerful punishment and go for the K.O like Ortiz./ This might be more interesting then it looks hope om right.
@godzilla1077 yup, i saw that too. He looks at the ref as if expecting some kind of deduction. It's like, uh the bell has rung kid, "protect yourself at all times.". I like how people are in an uproar saying mayweather is a dirty fighter and cheated. This is after ortiz intentionally smashed his head into his face.
i was doing some serious lip reading at the end of the video and mayweather looked at the belt and said "ill have it back , youll see me".......... its not a question that he will win.... even mayweather haters know that... but it does make for a nice tune up fight
well Mayweather is taking a chance here, and I respect him for fighting a young contender entering his prime in Ortiz. The ring rust might be a factor, one of these days he's going to become a old boxer, I don't know if it will be this fight or not, but the long layoffs along with age will eventually become a factor, and I pray to god that won't happen before he fights Pacquiao. I wish Victor well, and I'm pulling for him this fight, I just hope he doesn't win because Floyd is past his prime.
You have too start look at Floyds age. Hes a great athleted and takes care of his body, but he will not be the same forever; will not be able to beat Top Young fighters forever. It might not be in this fight, or the next one, but soon will start happening and youll see Floyd getting hurt more often. Anyway, for years I wished Floyd losses, but after his 30s I became his fan. Now I wish Floyd keeps his abilities as longer he can. Good luck for the win bro. As for Ortiz I wish him a good carrear.
Im not a massive mayweather fan but looking at the style of these 2 fighters I say Floyd is a very clever man to pick him. Floyds superiority is not getting hit and Ortiz is just too slow to land. I say Floyd by stoppage dominating all rounds minus the first 3
floyd say´s, he ``only want´s to fight the biggest and the best´´, ortiz may be big, but he´s certainly, not the best....and we all know for fact, who the best man, to fight floyd really is..
@LALOGALLO13 Roberto Duran quit once...was he always a quitter? And Ortiz faced a serious obstacle in Berto...Ortiz is the future of boxing...mark my words.
Floyd looks serious right now...I ain't never heard this guy talk about another fighter while getting ready for someone else. He normally tells people "i'm not worried about such and such...right now its me vs (Insert his signed opponent). But he actually talked about Pacman this time...this is not good for Pac lol. I've never seen this guy that focused, Victor Ortiz is going to be a message for Manny...
I agree! this might be the first loss of Mayweather Jr. I just hope the judges wont make a bias decisions when the game end to round 12. Because what I see is that, the only way Ortiz win a decent fight is to KO Mayweather Jr. This is the greatest opportunity of Ortiz to get into the top. I just hope Ortiz don't give too much excited to the plan and go directly looking for the KO. He should be careful because still Mayweather Jr. is very dangerous. PEACE YOU ALL BOXING FANS
I have great respect for Victor Ortiz and the performance he put on against Berto was hands down "Vicious". He was willing to die and pretty much had nothing to lose and everything to gain bc he was a huge underdog, but let's not forget who he is fighting. Floyd sat ringside and watched 2 guys with poor defense hit the canvas several times. Mayweather will seriously give ORTIZ A BOXING LESSON, but Victor will walk away with PRIDE AND A SHIT LOAD OF MONEY !@
This fight is not about race or color. This fight is about the prize fight profession. Of all sports, the fight game has always been a sport of great wars yet overwhelning respect. Respect that has been earned at the end of every war. Lets not lose sight of the true history of boxing, "RESPECT". Fighters worked dilgently to keep it on the map. Boxing is about conditioning which is 90% of the game. Muhammad Ali and Don King brought the "MILLIOM DOLLAR" paydays to the fight game not Hollywood.
Interesting fight in my opinion. I want to see if Ortiz can handle Mayweather's speed or match it. I think Ortiz has the power to put Floyd on the mat but Floyd's not at all easy to hit. I don't think Mayweather will go to war because he is a boxer first and that comment was just for mind games.
its nice to finally some one who talk more than mayweathwer for once and by the way, at 4:39, does he want to look like m. potatot or they just create this game based on his face?
@myfeet14 - that's what happens when he gets no respect from fans and media. He's the champ in this fight and everyone is thanking Mayweather. If you read enough on youtube or other forums it's insulting to Ortiz. Many think he's not in this fight. I'm sure he's also tired of hearing about Mayweather vs Pacquiao when the roads leads through Ortiz right now
He may win ortiz, but dipending on how long and hard the fight is, I have a feeling floyds days are done. By that I mean, when he has beaten ortiz he has to avoid pacqui to let his body heal because I just feel floyd won't recover in time to be as fast and powerfull to beat pacqui. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong... could be that floyd beats ortiz in first round lol :D
@Blindianboy yeah thats what mosley said when he fought manny, no doubt victor can punch and floyd will not risk going toe to toe with ortiz he's stupid if he does. but it will be the typical pot shoting, grabbing when ortiz gets in close, and a race to the finish line.
The fact that you build the heart and remove the fear to fight back makes you a fighter. When you you master the science, skills, discipline and conditioning makes you a boxer. Boxing requires an extreme amount of work that has nothing to do with jumping in the studio making a rap! Actors say making a movie is a lot of work. Thats a day in the park compared to training for a prize fight. The Prize Fight Profession requires massive sacrifices including sex if you want your stanima.
This is a tough fight for Floyd! Unlike the fights the so called P4P's been taking against guys who've just lost or are too old or both. Mayweather can forget fighting Pac next...Pac's next fight after Marquez will be against Berto trust me!! It's been an ongoing pattern ever since the 2nd Morales fight...look it up!!
In my opinion Ortiz either needs to smother Floyd do damage up close. Ortiz shouldn't allow Floyd to out box him in the middle of the ring. Also Victor needs to move forward be the aggressor. For Floyd to win these fight I think he needs to let Ortiz come to him. Mayweather's speed has to dominate rounds and box Ortiz from different angles. Mayweather vs Pacquiao: I know this fight will happen because everyone wants to see it but for me I don't think Flyod should get a second chance.
@LALOGALLO13 Ive never heard of him..but I will be checking him out. The Garcia Family (who trains boxers now) has produced what looks like to me a future star...I dont know his first name though but he's the younger brother of Robert Garcia. Also Saturday, on the Judah-Khan bout they showed highlights of a black guy (cant remember his name dang!) who looks very promising. But ill check out your guy Jose. I may have seen him before, just dont remember names too well.
@LALOGALLO13 Yeah, but PBF and Pac will be retiring soon. Heres my list of the top fighters in the future: 1. Ortiz 2. Khan 3. Bradley 4. Bradon Rios 5. Maidana 6. Mytthese 7. Anthony Peterson 8. Jorge Linares 9. Robert Guerrero What say you?
@LALOGALLO13 Yep, Mickey Garcia looks very promising. The black guy's name I found out is Gary Russell Jr....reminds me of Roy Jones. I knew I had seen Jose Benavidez jr. before...that kid has a lot of talent and a high boxing IQ to be only what 19 now?
@LALOGALLO13 I think PBF will win, but the old Ortiz is gone...you can see it in his eyes..the guy was baptized in that Berto fight..even if he loses to mayweather, Ortiz is the future.
