@@Malum09 Kahler tremolo requires routing, the one your are referring to is not a true tremolo, it is a fixed bridge, that does not need the route, but the cam based tremolo requires a route.
I had the good fortune of having the new trem explained and showcased to me by Floyd himself at NAMM. Super nice dude! I'm happy to see that it's getting Guitar World's attention. It sounds tight!
***** hey, im a strat guy, i dont like tremolos for dive bombs, but it gives, at least me, more control for vibratos, nice slides with a bit of trem, and pinch harmonics with a bit more of vibrato. for the record, i prefer sync tremolo over floyd.
+Peter Gordon not superior. You can have a vibrato and never use it, thus never putting the tuning at risk. But even then, Floyd Roses are the best choice because they do not affect tuning.
The beauty of this thing is how it looks; vintage. You could slap a gold FRX on a Snow Falcon (if you dare) and if anything it would make an already beautiful guitar even moreso. 10/10 Floyd Rose guys.
Any major changes/improvements to this trem system since it came out? Been thinking of modding my LP with one of these for a few yrs. Any issues (especially tuning) for those of you who have it?
That's pretty cool I was looking for one for my dime dimebag Dean but all of them that I looked up looked alike you had to do some routing but now that I see it on the guitar I understand ,very cool 🤘🏻 definitely about to trick this guitar out
Yes absolutely, it just needs a bit more attention and tweaking, can be tricky but it's 100% possible, you'll have to reset your whole set of strings first and use great care, but if you play drop d always you'll be very rewarded for your hard work
It looks like he raised the bridge pickup significantly. I assume to accommodate to the string height with this trem system. Does it affect the action at the higher frets?
So does this bridge have a form of stabilization, or is it just total free floating? The regular floyd rose I use, I've mounted a stabilizer (goldo backbox). Wondering if this has something "built in"
There are two ways to stabilize tuning on this. The first way is to use the thumbscrew to prevent it from pulling back (EVH style), but you can also use the tremstable screw to keep the guitar in tune without having to sacrifice pulling back.
Hey can you help me figure out how to install the strings? Do you just put the regular ball end into the string bridge area? Or can you feed it through underneath the bridge.like a traditional string change? Thank you!
I have been waiting for these to come out. I want one for my SG. Was looking at the Stetsbar top mount trem but seeing these now, Im not sure. Going to decide which to get next month.
August 25, 2017, Wow ... This is very cool. I have a $1,200.00 SG in mint condition. (1) If I put this FRX (about $260.00) on my guitar in the full floating position, will the FRX hit the painted top of my guitar and ding and damage the paint, or does it have a safety stop to prevent touching the body of the guitar. (2) If I do not like the FRX, can I put the SG guitar back to original condition with no new screw holes visible? (3) I have a Fender Stratocaster with Floyd Rose, and I am wondering if the FRX will work as good on the SG Gibson? (4) There seems to be some question by other viewers about installing the locking nut. Do I need to drill holes there or not?
I have an important question, i have a gibson explorer b-2 and i want to install one of these, but i want to know if this would actually work before i spend 200+ dollars on a bridge
It should, it's not really Gibson-specific (although the head angle of the Les Paul might prove annoying when fitting the locking nut device, I'm not completely sure) as much as it is designed to replace a Tune-O-Matic + stop-tail bridge. You can ask any guitar tech they should be able to tell you, but AFAIK there's no reason it won't fit.
+YETI Official I read somewhere it gets like 3/4 "upwards bend" (for lack of a better word) of a normal Floyd. I don't know if that's true or not, but to me that's still enough

While nice, I will probably have to modify my Les Paul to use it. I've added a Roland GK pickup that goes between the bridge pickup and the tune-o-matic and I don't think it will fit without relocating the mounting holes.
Hmmmz. It looks like a Stetsbar look-a-like. had one once but pulled it of because it can not be tightly installed on a non flat body. I hope this FR does a better job although it is very curious that paul shows it on a flat body guitar... Also potentially you lose alot of sustain (the stetsbar did at least). Again.. hope this one is better.
well the people at floyd rose put alot of time into their designs so I'm sure it's a pretty tight desgn. As far as sustain is concerned it's still a floyd rose design so sustain is still about the same for a floyd (which isn't the best) for a gibson I'd sooner stick with a bigsby, or just the standard setup because for me at least I like sg's and Paul's for their sustain not their locking trems. I'll just stick with a Jackson or an ibanez if I want some floyd action thank you
+iTzNoxy I'm going to guess no, because of the locking clamps. Maybe it'll work without them, so if you buy it a little trial and error wouldn't hurt :P
I always love it when this guy demos guitars and whatnot, his movements are always so erratic and excessive lmao, now to clown on him he's a far better guitar player than me obv, but I just like to point it out.
Stay in tune - practically none. The nut and the bridge locks keep it incredibly stable. However, the locking means you need to adjust the intonation of the saddles to make sure it plays right.
Used one before, yes. The real problem is if a string breaks. the way these are built, they need to have a perfect match between string tension and spring tightness. too much or too little, and it bends too far back or forward. If a string breaks or spring comes loose, it's gonna be almost impossible to fix unless you hand it to a luthier.
