Thanks! This tip saved me from a really difficult fill valve replacement. Bought a couple more for when the other toilets fill valves start leaking. Such an cheap and easy fix for a common problem😊👍👍

Conveniently the Big box store here does not sell the valve seal replacement, you have to buy the whole valve and then dispose of the old one. Not good for the environment. Thanks for the tip, you just saved me a ton of time and some money.

Did not know that could be changed. I always change the entire fill valve assembly. Thanks for the info.

My valve started leaking after the water to my home was turned back on. I pulled the seal and found it was gunked up. Rinsing it off and reinstalling was all that was required. Apparently gunk in the lines was dislodged.

My seal was all in tact and not separated but very covered with gunk. Prob could have just cleaned old seal and put it back on but since I got a new seal for $1.83 I'm gonna go ahead and replace it. Maybe just keep the old intact seal as a backup after cleaning it up. Thanks for the how to!

Will this work for the same valve that keeps running, even with the float manually lifted, the flapper is fine. I’ve replaced the entire valve 3 times in 10 years on the same toilet and just woke up to it running and not stopping even with a manual lift.

Nice vid! About a month ago I replaced the seal on my FM 400 with a FM 242 seal (maybe the same as here). At first everything was good, but things have deteriorated and now there is much groaning going on. There was no groaning beforehand, so I'm thinking it's not the fill valve. Have you experienced this?

i did not have this problem. maybe someone else has had a similar experience. failing that call a plumber just to ask.
