My friend Laura aka "Flute Link" playing the Masquerade at Otakon 2008. Sorry about the quality and shakiness. We had to hide the camera.

I unfortunately don't have recordings of any other entries or skits in the masquerade (We had limited battery---sorry! Plus the thing was like 5 hours long heh). So please don't send me PM's asking for your skit on tape.

Oh my gosh, she's just incredible!!! When I think of the breath control that playing the flute requires, that is sooo impressive! Plus, the skit was really cutely crafted, on top of the flute skill.

I still get chills watching this - I remember being there and just going "holy shit." And then the standing ovation. Best skit of the Masquerade, by far.

This year's masquerade in general was just AMAZING and better than many years past - your friend's skit was one of the crown jewels, absolutely great performance (and playing!) not to mention clever. The standing ovation was something I'll never forget!!

That was some of the best flute soloing I've heard from someone ever! I used to play with a band, and an orchestra, and that was some smooth flute work. A few small hiccups, but nothing that took away from the final product. Wish I was there!

Found her in the dealer's room on Sunday so she knows how appreciative I was of this skit. Being not only a long-time Link cosplayer but someone on press who also got to see her wonderful Otakon 2007 skit, I was just amazed to see her return. Quality, expression, and sheer insanity were even better and really, when you saw this from the first / second rows, it is hard to do this skit justice with a simple description.

This was gorgeous. I was in the hall costume contest, so I had to sit through most of that masquerade in giant wings with a crossbow...but this skit made the whole thing worthwhile. I joined in the standing ovation! Thanks for posting this!

i was in the 6th row and i thoroughly enjoyed watching the preformance! that should have won best in show because if my memory serves me well she was the only one to have such an overwhelming ovation! i'm mad she didn't. glad you recorded it i was hoping someone would :3 great job no matter what! :D

I saw Laura tonight at VGL in Pittsburgh, and got to meet her at the meet-and-greet after the show. She's wonderfully talented and a very sweet girl - I was so lucky to meet her! :)

Holy crap that was freakin amazing! I can't even fathom how hard she had to work to play it that well *unless she's been playing the flute for all her life...still hard* but man it paid off! Awesome, nothing tops that performance.

This was amazing. You can't see it in the video but I was close to the stage, her facial reactions to Navi were perfect. We all jumped up to give her a standing ovation afterwards.

She can create the sheet music by ear. She then arranges and adds her own "stuff" to the original themes. She created and encoded the entire background piece, including percussion. By the way, the piccolo (Navi) is her playing pre recorded. ALL OF THE FLUTE WAS HER PLAYING LIVE.
