I love how all of Finn's love interests represent different stages of his character development. PB was his immature childhood crush, Flame Princess was his first relationship which he messed up due to his awkward teenager tendencies, and now with Huntress Wizard, he is a mature young man who has learned from his past romantic failings and is willing to let Huntress Wizard be with someone else or no one if she wants. Finn has come a long way: from the energetic child who loves punching evil and saving the princess to the awkward teen navigating his new emotions to a mature young man understands the complexities of morality. Just like this episode and last episode you're going to see more episodes dealing with different aspects of maturity for Finn, shaping him into an even better individual than he is now and I for one cannot wait for you to react to them.
Following what said about each stage you can also look at it like this. PB is candy and represents childhood desires we grow out of. Flame princess is fire, wild and crazy based on undirected passion. While Huntress Wizard represents the skilled patience and maturity it takes to be a hunter.
Yeah this episode kinda feels like a stealth sequel to the previous one- With "Hall of Egress" being thought to at least be a representation of Finn becoming more mature with age, this very next episode shows him becoming infatuated with a girl in a way that's so different from the way he acted as a younger kid. Like you said, not everything has to be romance, but it doesnt even feel cheap here considering how Finn handles it
Heads up, seasons 7 8 and 9 were originally only 2 seasons, with season 7 and the first half of season 8 being the original season 7 and the second half of season 8 and all of season 9 being the original season 8, but it got changed by cartoon network for unknown reasons. So the next episode might not feel like a finale, because it wasn't originally meant to be one. There's this stretch of four episodes in the middle of season 8 that was originally intended to be the two-part finale of season 7 and the two-part premiere of season 8

The next episode is not "technically" the last of season 7 Context, originally this season had 38 episodes, culminating with a two-part episode ("Preboot" and "Reboot"), but Cartoon Network altered the order when the series came to streaming and DVD, this change affecting all subsequent seasons because What they did was move the last episodes of each season to the beginning of the next, this not only ruined the end of season 7 but also made the series reach 10 seasons that it shouldn't, according to the creators the series should have 9 seasons, not the 10 that it had due to the order that was altered
When i was rewatching the show, i noticed that the forest spirit looked like the guy from the episode "who would win" from season 3, which gave advices to Finn and Jake on how to win the battle. Idk what that connection supposed to mean
This and Hall of Egress really go well togather, Finn is personally my favorite character and I love to see him grow. Just an FYI the next episode is not the intended finale of season 7 (don't worry about the episode order it is still correct). Originally Adventure Time was only 9 seasons (still same episode count) but cartoon network wanted to sell more dvds i assume so they adjusted it to 10 instead by splitting season 7 and 8 differently than intended. Season 7's original finale is in the middle of season 8, I'll try to let you know when it happens.
Wow, you really have been with the series for more than a year and although part of me is impatient to see you watch everything, the other part of taking so long is that you are really living the series and loving the characters like we did and that, believe me, is not what What other people who react do... I love that you are seeing the maturation of Finn and the series in general with us
I'll be honest, I actually haven't seen this one myself But it really shows off how much Finn has grow (in a single episode for that matter) since The Hall of Egress He realizes that his relationship(?) with Huntress Wizard wouldn't work and he respects that and accepts the outcome regardless
3:37 - 3:39 If I had a nickel every time I hear a coming-of-age animated show about a blonde-haired boy with a past life, whose love interests consist of a smart girl with a long lifespan, a red-haired girl with a short temper and a green-haired girl who uses magic, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Jake repaired NEPTR somebody was actually being nice to him I think it is only the 2 time in the show and Maja is not dead she is just in a coma. I love how Finn has emotionally matured enough that he recognizes that even though he could have a good relationship with Huntress Wizard it is not the right time for it right now. Something he couldn't when he dated FP. Is it just me or does it seem like Huntress Wizard is a reference to the Greek huntress goddess Artemis?
