What is it with all the posts saying 5 gallons is minimum for betta? This bad info needs to be squashed. If these betta police think this is not appropriate they need to step back and analyze their thinking process. If the inbreeding to get large fins which make it near impossible for a betta to swim is ethical, providing a 3 gallon tank that would require a betta to swim for minutes to reach the other side is ethical also…..
@fluval

We absolutely agree! Captive-bred Betta splendens are a very unique case due to the selective breeding processes that have created the fish we keep today. Their requirements are very different from those of other fish!

This is another reason I dred putting bettas in community tanks they tend to get stressed out and territorial and it drastically lowers their life span.

I have owned this tank for several months. After I set it up and got it properly cycled, I bought a betta from Petco. He was looking a bit rough, and was not very large. Today he is THRIVING. This IS enough space/water for a single betta in my opinion. My fish's fins are so gorgeous now! He repeatedly builds bubble nests, so I think he is happy. I do change 1.5--2 gals every week or two. If you keep this tank up--keep it clean and the water changed regularly, your betta can thrive in it. No affiliation with Fluval. Just my experience.

Bubble nests are not linked to happiness though. It’s just a betta being « ready » to reproduce. And changing the majority of water that often points to an aquarium with poor filtering and no space for bacterias… This isn’t a big deal, as water changes fix this when done properly. But if someone is looking for a low maintenance tank, this isn’t good.

Have been in the hobby for 20+ years; recently picked a couple of these up. This is the easiest, most well built betta-kit on the market. Really great build quality, easy to service system and most importantly, a silent pump that is adjustable in a positive way for betta. For anyone thinking this is too small, I urge you to research how betta are bred and how a system like this is optimal. Thanks for a great product.

It becomes a diminishing return . 1: people buy bettas because they are interesting fish that do not need 6 , 10, 20 gallon tanks. 2.6 gallons really is that seeet spot where it’s light and small enough to be put in the same kinds of places people would put a betta while being large enough that they can explore and otherwise move around 2: fluval already has offerings at 5 gallons 9 gallons and 15 gallons. The filtration might not be as specific for bettas but at that size the rate of flow would likely be spread out enough as to not be as much of an issue

I have the regular 2.6 fluval spec that I’ve kept around 5 bettas in the past 6 years. My original boy Rage Mage lived the remainder of his life in it when I first got it. He was 3 and thrived in it until he was 5 with a small colony of red cherry shrimp and live plants. My next 3 bettas didn’t live as long as Rage. A year to a year and a half tops. I’m thinking of upgrading to this tank.

I have two Fluval Flex 15 gallon tanks. One Betta per tank along with a few tetras. Cardinals in one and Pristellas in the other one. I purchased Fluval’s Betta tank and am in the cycling stage now. The heater that came with the tank didn’t work. Temp stayed at 70 which is too cold. I bought another heater and that wasn’t good either. My third try was successful tho. Can’t wait to find a little Betta buddy to put in it. Of course I want the 32 gallon flex, lol.

I've been testing the thermostat/heater and it doesn't seem to be able to control the water temperature accurately. I'm using a Meater bluetooth thermometer as well as other thermal strips and both agree that the water is over 82F. Meanwhile the heater keeps warming up. At some point my betta would just be swimming next to the water intake into the filtration compartment. I have had to install an aftermarket thermostat to control the heater. I've read negative comments about the heater individually and with the P25 model as well.

Hi, i recently got this kit and i love it so far. However I just had a question regarding the diffusion chamber. It is all fully plugged in and filled with water, yet there seems to be no water coming out at the top (like how yours looks at 8:12 in the video). I was wondering how to fix this? The pump is fully on the "+" side and the polyfoam pad is also inside. If anyone knows the fix I will love to hear it!

Hi there! It's perfectly normal for water to not be coming out of the top as seen in the video, and depends entirely on the exact positioning of the diffusion sponge. If you can't see any water coming from the top, it means it's all passing through the sponge and being diffused into the tank! 👌

So I bought my son the Fluval Spec 2.6 gallon a couple years ago to use primarily as a betta tank. I like it so much I've been contemplating buying one myself. So my question is what is the difference between this tank and the Spec? From what I can tell, the heater, a slightly dimmer light, the filter media looks slightly different. At my local Petco the Betta version is $15 cheaper, which sounds like a good deal since it includes a heater. Tried to go the live plant route in my sons Spec but it became overrun with algae, not just a little, but almost like an infestation of algae. Had to dismantle the tank and give it a good cleaning. After that I'm a little wary of going with live plants.
@fluval
@fluval Год назад
Hi there! 👋 The Fluval Betta Kit is indeed similar to the Spec 3. The filtration system is almost the same, but it includes a Diffusion Chamber to help disperse the output flow. It does also include a heater, and the light is much dimmer to make the Betta more comfortable. We encourage you to try live plants in the Betta Kit - use low-light species like Anubias, Cryptocoryne, and Java Moss!

Dear Fluval, I hope this message finds you well. I have been a loyal customer of yours for many years, and I greatly appreciate the quality and innovation that Fluval products consistently deliver. However, I have a concern that I believe is important to share with you. Over time, our understanding of betta fish care has evolved, and it is now widely recognized that bettas thrive in larger environments. While your current betta fish tank kit offers 2.6 gallons of water, it has become clear that providing at least 5 gallons of water is ideal for the health and well-being of bettas. This larger volume of water allows for better water quality, more stable water parameters, and a more enriched environment for these beautiful fish. I truly believe that if Fluval were to create a betta fish tank kit in a 5-gallon version, it would not only meet but exceed the expectations of betta keepers everywhere. Your commitment to quality and innovation would make this kit the best available on the market, providing an optimal habitat for bettas and enhancing their overall welfare. I am not alone in this sentiment; there are many others within the betta fishkeeping community who share this perspective. Therefore, I kindly urge you to consider developing a 5-gallon version of your betta fish tank kit. It would not only reflect Fluval's dedication to advancing pet care but also set a new standard for betta fishkeeping. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback. I sincerely hope you will give this suggestion the consideration it deserves, for the betterment of betta fish and their keepers worldwide. Warm regards, @user-bj9nw5wf5n

One of the universities I’ve attended, Adelphi University, recommends 2 gallons minimum for a Betta fish tank. So this kit technically is above the minimum, though I’ll have to do measurements for swimming space. However, one fish veterinarian does recommend 2-5 gallons for a tank size. So I think both sides of the argument are valid. As someone who has cared for bettas myself, I would say that 2.5 gallons is the minimum by Betta fish standards. The reason why this debate is so hotly contested though is because 2.5 gallons is kind of an awkward size for the human aquarist when it comes to maintenance. That tank size requires 5 capfuls of Fluval Betta Plus Tap Water Conditioner. Also, its size means that the water parameters fluctuate more often and more drastically compared to that of a larger gallon aquarium. Quite frankly, each Betta’s needs will vary depending on the individual Betta fish. I personally believe the Fluval Premium Betta Kit makes a great retirement home for long-finned males since they can exert a lot less effort to move around and it’s easier for them to eat food. Personally speaking, I think that people are pushing for a 5 gallon minimum for no reason other than to benefit the human owners of Betta fish. Honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with that because making the aquarium care easier can only keep happy customers and healthy fish. That’s why I say that, although 2.5 gallons is indeed past the bare minimum for Betta tanks, there’s no harm in creating a 5 gallon version. I can guarantee you that it will definitely sell.

Hi there! It's normal for there to not be much water movement - in fact, that's part of the design of the aquarium, as it recreates the slow-moving waters Bettas naturally prefer! Hi there, great question! You're absolutely correct that RO water has no chlorine, chloramine or heavy metals, so AquaPlus isn't necessary in the traditional use of the product. That said, there are still some benefits to it: it includes herbal extracts to help calm your fish during stressful events like tank maintenance, transport, and acclimation, and acts like a lotion by providing a coating for your fish to protect their scales and fins from inflammation and infection caused by common scrapes and abrasions!

Where did the "Betta needs 5gal or more" thing come from? I'm curious more than anything. Like, what do actual marine biologists have to say? I have 2 tiny mosquito fish, so 2.5 is more than adequate for their tiny size. Ntm I rescued them from a drying up creekbed. So anyway, I understand the bioloads and how that certain sized and or highly active aquatic life need larger spaces to thrive, but they literally keep these beautiful fish in 10 oz of water till someone buys them, very unlike other fish in the stores that have 5 to 10 gallon tanks to live in until purchased. 😢 Just really confusing for me. Sidenote, I certainly see the people that claim this, also own a large or giant breed dog and keep it in an apartment 😅 or have a working breed dog and take it on one walk a day, if that.
@fluval
@fluval Год назад
Hi there, thanks for your comment - you make some very good points! The world's leading authority on Bettas, the International Betta Congress, states that 2.5 US Gal is sufficient for a male Betta splendens. As a biologist myself (I'm the guy in the video - hi! 👋) I certainly agree with that statement! There's of course nothing wrong with offering a bit more space for a Betta, and we encourage all our fans to do so if they'd like. However, to answer your question - we have no idea where the "5 gallon minimum" rule came from, but it certainly wasn't from a scientific, factual source!

I honestly don't understand why people say a 5 gallon is the minimum tank size for a betta. 1. They aren't an overly huge fish 2. They have an organ that allows them to breath from the surface as well as inside the water Don't get me wrong a betta is a wonderful center piece fish in a tank anywhere from 5 gallons to 20 gallons or more but they honestly don't need a very large living space if you actually keep your fish tanks clean and especially using live plants over fake will always be a better for any fish

Not a great instructional video. Show attaching the heater and how, show adding the gravel, show adding the water - which seems impossible to not ruin what you just set up. No tips on cleaning, replacement media, optional media, etc.

I must have missed that part. The Fluval rep I feel did a good job explaining the details of this aquarium. Was simple and straight to the point. I didn't get the vibe that he was trying too hard to be funny.
