Wow, what a difference, just swapped out the supplied pump for the compacton 600, it's nearly silent. The Fluval one was quiet for the first 48hrs only then got louder. Thanks bud 👍
Since finding them I love your videos. I've just done this mod on the Fluval Flex 57 and I went for the same pump (1000 model) which on it's low setting is perfect and I have the opportunity for more flow if I need it. The pipe is very tight to get onto the nozzle, I ended up heating the water in the microwave to bubbling hot and it really softened it so just popped on 😀. I was a little worried it was noisy at first but I think it's because the pump is in such a small chamber you need to take a little time to position it so it doesn't vibrate. Really pleased and thank you for all the tips.
Thanks for the info....I have the same tank (Fluval flex 57l) and changed the pump with Eheim compacton 1000. As you mentioned I still have the noise of vibration since it's sitting in a tight space. How did you manage to remove this noise and make it quiet like in this video? is there any video I can watch?
@@kouroshrezaei992 Thank you for your reply, I have ended up taking the whole filter chamber out and using a small internal filter. This has solved any problem and makes the tank bigger too. Removing the plastic back wall is easy and if you search you will find Aquaguy has done a nice video on how to do this. Others have done it too. Fluval design is not good here, the chamber is so small I suspect whatever pump is used it's going to touch the sides and vibrate. Good luck.
Fluval Edge intake filters or the Pre filter sponges (coarser) from Aquarium-CoOp are an easy way to slow the current on the fluval flex. Two other easy and cheap upgrades are small corner sponge filter in the 1st chamber and a small cheap (no reason to spend a lot) UV light.

Made the change but honestly can’t say I find it quieter - just a different hum. It’s not rattling or touching the sides. Higher flow rate for sure even turned all the way down. Although so powerful it seemed to suck a lot of gunk out of the filter and blow it into the tank. And I just cleaned it. Not sire how you’d avoid that.
Really!! very strange i have had three now and all better since the swap having said that i have now removed the baffle and compartment completely in 2 of the three and use an internal filter

@@dpowert2 or indeed you had a good original pump although they are limited the original can be hit a miss only thing that may have changed that is i placed some filter floss under the filter first
Man, this video is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much! Question-when you were discussing the smaller Flex 9 and the Eheim 600, you mentioned 16ml tubing. Is there an outlet piece that comes with the Eheim pump that will work with the hole size on the Flex divider?
Don’t know if you can help, have a betta fish and tetras in a Fluval Roma 90 and was thinking of fitting a Fluval 107 to it, do you think it would be ok for the betta fish?
It might be a little much to be honest but in the 90 the filter is quite far from the water level this means the filter would pump less than 550 lph also it comes with a spout that could be positioned to flow at say the rear wall ,i actually think it would be ok maybe add a spray bar or sponge to diffuse the flow
i bought the 600 and found that it was just as loud. was humming really loudly. not sure if i got a defect pump. made sure the pump wasnt touching, the impeller and chamber was checked also lubricated it
Thanks for posting this. As a bandaid I just put dense-er filter foam and some film to cover intake grills on the original pump. But I like your idea of going with a quieter pump too. Maybe I will do the same one day (our Flex is in the bedroom :). But I have a question. What are these plexiglass contraptions in the back for filter media? Did you make them yourself? Or did you buy them?

Great video!! I was just looking for a pump replacement in my flex 15. I just had my flex for about a week and the just started to get noisy. Can you tell me how did it work for you after a while of using it? And how did you manage to connect the tube with the pump? Will the 1000 be too powerful for bettas?
If you use the eheim 600 compact it works well and fits the stock tube but you will get a little noise as the rear compartment is like an cave effect as for the 100 I used this and adjusted it right down but now removed all of it and use a little sponge filter hope this helps
AQUAGUY UK Thanks for the reply! Any complications after using the 1000? I want a quiet one that doesn’t have a high flow rate that might harm my betta.. I mean I can cover one of the nuzzles with a sponge but still.
Bought the 600 but it seems to make a fair amount of noise still. Put a cloth under it till I can get something else and that doesn't help either. Almost sounds like the pump is rattling against the glass. Bit frustrating.
@@AQUAGUYUK The problem with the 600 was the blades were rubbing on the inside which was creating a horrible noise (looked to be glue that it was catching on). Its now in the bin. Ive put the original pump back in the tank and will have to live with that.
@@richardwalsh5962 Damn shame mine is still the best pump i had you can use the 300 but if the pump is noisy simply return it to vender as it must be faulty
Hello mate, I’ve got one of these pumps in my flex 123. I came down this morning and it’s obviously moved an easier making a horrible rattling noise. I have now put it on some filter padding and it’s humming. Is this humming what you mean by virtually silent ?
i can only tell you of my experience and i have both the 34 and the 57 and unless i am right next to the pump i can not hear it perhaps its touching somewhere
@@zachiscoolish yes should be fine i checked the pump its both fresh and salt water but may inherit a noisy impeller over time but this would happen with most but for extra flow go with the 1000 as marine require a much bigger flow ,,,also think about removing it all i did and never looked back
Great video, I bought the Mega flex in january and slowly dryscapping and modifying at the moment. Would the 1000 pump be sufficient for the mega flex or somthing larger. Many thanks Mr R
Hi there. I have the fluval flex 9 and need to change the pump as it’s flow is way too heavy. Can you recommend exactly which products to purchase that will work with the 9?? I believe you’re talking about a bigger tank for this one. I just turned it off and put a sponge filter in, which may be fine on its own. But would be cool to use the built in one
Will the stock tubing on the fluval flex 32L be long enough with the compacton 600? I’ve had my flex for two days and within a day it’s gotten incredibly loud.
I believe it should if you change the input as the eheim comes with both just turn it around but first move your pump in your tank as it may be hitting the glass
Nothing touching the glass, I did notice a crack on the impeller cover where it locks in place… there’s a small rattle when I have it in the sink that isn’t there when the cover is off, in the tank it must get amplified as it sounds 10x louder. I can get a replacement but I ran across your video and it’s swaying me towards a new pump all together…
