Fluval Flex Pump 

You've really helped me here, and appreciate you doing this video. My pump was really slow and useless, until I saw you could open it and clean the internal little filter in the pump. This had not been cleaned for over two years! (shock!) What a massive difference. Thank you.

Thank you thank you thank you. My pump was barely moving and finding this saved me from buying a new one. Just popping the cover off and cleaning it out was so much faster.

The hose DOES unscrew from the pump, so you can use a small bottle brush to clear out the inside of the hose. I've done it many times.

That small sponge inside the filter intake just causes problems, it becomes blocked / dirty faster than any other part of the Flex filter system, I assume its there to stop large debri getting into the impeller but that's rare and its just a nuisance overall. I got tired of cleaning it and and removed it completely, the flow increased and our water became clearer within a few hours.,let the main sponge do the work.

Thank you so much for this. My water got cloudy and my tank got considerably louder. Right after a full water change a few days ago. I was so confused, I got some water clarifier and when I went to pour it in I noticed little to know water flow. So I pulled out the pump and cleaned the tube/nozzles, no change. After watching this vid and discovering the front could pop off I pulled it out again, lo and behold it was filled with sludge! Popped it back on and the water flow is great again, and back to normal noise level, hopefully by tomorrow the cloudiness will have dissipated.

Awesome man. I was just trying to figure out what to clean for the weak flow on my Flex 15, and turns out it was the pump that needed it. Crud galore. Cleaned it and it's like a fire hose again. Thanks so much!

Thanks a lot for this. The pump got quite loud overnight and I was nervous about getting it out/opening it up. Wasn’t hard at all and it was completely nasty inside. Cleaned it up and put it back and now it’s quieter than we remember.

I cut holes in the tubing connecting the pump to the output. Cut very small ones, add more to adjust, check in between each cut - but if you do cut too much, it's an easy part to replace!
