Back to fly fishing at Wimbleball Lake! After running away from the other lake users last time, I wanted to get back and to see if I had learned anything about fishing a reservoir from the bank. Flies used were the Foam Beetle, Hawthorn, Black Damsel and Green Damsel. Will I return.....?

As others have said, keep stripping or gentle lift will help hook ups. Love ruggs, wind was slightly wrong for you but you had fun. Love your passion and wimbleball

I like the fact a fish rises behind you at 00.56. Its a great place and have been there 3 times so far this year. Will probably wait till late summer now before I go back now as too hot for me.

I had a couple of fish rise within 15 feet of me when I was wading and I was casting 50 feet beyond them! It is a stunning place and I agree, I think late summer with daddy dry flies will be my next time. Thanks for watching

🤣 going from a river to a reservoir is a bit of a challenge to me, no practice, just turn up and expect to be able to do it! Thanks for watching

Casting wise you’re getting a line out fine just a bit frantic, let the rod do the work and your shoulders will thank you, slow progression in the casting stroke and add a stop. It’s very different to the little Devon rivers where we always have to bastardise the ‘rules’ to hit the target. Easiest way to learn is to actually face the other way whilst casting and watch the load/loop then turn at the last minute to make sure you don’t drop the rod

You’re striking too soon and far too aggressively either a gentle lift or a short strip strike will drastically improve your hookups.

Love the vids though nice to see someone so happy on the water

Hi Thomas. I’m still learning about reservoir fishing, thanks for the advice 👍

It’s definitely my happy place, it’s just about the joy of fishing and nothing else matters

@@WestCountryAngler don’t fish the stocked waters too much these days but the rainbows especially the new entry’s like to drown a dry before eating it (they aren’t used to surface food). Sometimes doing nothing will result in a second much more ferocious take otherwise a short gentle strip’s enough to set the hook or at least induce an ‘eat’
