Fly Fishing Credit River Trout
Brook Trout, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout all caught in one day of Credit River fishing.

Fall fishing is fast approaching and it is one of the best time to go fly fishing for trout. This day we've completed the Credit River Trout Trifecta! We visited a conservation area of the Upper Credit where your can only use a single barb less hook and is only Catch and Release, the main reason why this fishery thrives.
Around this season, almost everyone is trying to fish for Salmon running up the rivers from Lake Ontario. We decided to stay away from the crowd and got rewarded with one of the most fun day of fishing this year.

My father was a salmon guide on a famous River here in Quebec for over 20 years and it was all fly fishing so I always have a soft spot for creators who are keeping the art form alive. Wonderful video! Damn shame about the one that got off. I would have hopped in the water on the hook set and tried to get him upstream of me. I never fight them downstream, they always win it seems. Sorry for the loss, but great you fooled him and hooked up. Thankfully you made up for it on hook up at the end, awesome fish!

Yes it is, there are trout unlimited/craa small billboards stating the rules around that area.

very likely escaped from the ponds in erin. which has been going on for awhile now. though most aren't even close to that size... Great fish either way !!

i actually live 5min from the Grand River, but its my dream to treat myself someday, to a bed and breakfast for 2-3 days and fly fish the upper regions of the Credit -- some of the most scenic wilderness you'll ever find ! (plus the upper Humber has some nearby hotspots too, as a bonus)

Great video! It's my first year fishing and I landed a salmon! I cured the roe to try out fishing trout with it. Do you think they would be in the river by now? Also how would you rig salmon roe for trout? I was thinking trying a float setup to drift down the river with a 2-3 feet leader and a size 8 hook.I usually fish on the southern end of credit river down by riverwood.

Depends on what fish you want to target. The whole system should have most species. How did you like the switch from float to fly?

Hey Bob, thanks for dropping by. The whole Credit River should contain trout. Make sure to check the regulations to see which areas are open for the season.

Basically anywhere in the system should have trout all year round.

Good question @@BobJones-vt4pb . Upstream would mean you're going against the water flow. Downstream means you are going the same direction as the flow.

Hey man, quality video! I do know of this spot but have never been, would you recommend it as a beginner friendly location since it's catch and release so there should always be plenty of residential fish?

Thank you very much Carl. The spot is pretty ok, but it may not be as beginner friendly as I imagine it to be. There's a lot of canopy in most areas so casting must be on point. Also the area is closed to the public as we speak, due to the pandemic going on.

Ah, in that case, it might be worth it to hire a guide for you and your father. Most of them know the ins and outs of the Credit, and can put you and your dad into quality fish.

Enjoyed your video and most encouraging to try and catch a trout. Catching mostly smallmouth bass and pan fish where I live. Am 72 and my first year of fly fishing. Loving it. Is it still worth the effort to go to the upper conservation area and try my luck??

Salmon should start running around this time of year. I've caught them on egg patterns and wooly buggers. Look for deep pools where they could hold. As for spots, not sure what is open in mississauga, haven't gone out since the pandemic 😅.

I won't be able to give out the exact location but what i can tell you is if you walk around and find nice pools anywhere in the credit and its small tributaries, you're bound to find one of these nice fish. Thank you for watching :)

Nice man, I still have to fish the credit! I have never been! Are there any recommendations that would give to a person new to the creek? Also what videos on your channel would you recommend for me to watch? If anyone here wants to see some more Brook Trout catches in our Urban areas caught. Take a peak at my channel, there's no up north fishing on my channel they are all catches from the local area.

As for fishing a new creek/river, cover lots of water. Usually the best spots are the ones where no one is willing to go. So just push that extra mile away from the crowd. @@ryansavel5705 This is the head water section. I heard a ton of good things for fly fishing at Barrie but haven't gone myself. What I would do, if I was in your shoes, is visit a local fly shop, get lessons and/or a guide to get started.

Thank you Andrew, I did the same. I had a ton of fun with browns this year. Fished the last day of trout season, caught an average sized one and saw some decent sized ones, but they wont bite haha.
