Fly Fishing for bass in saltwater might be a foreign concept to many people, but in this episode I share some of my favourite fishing, targeting Australian bass on cicada flies, on the magnificent Hawkesbury River system on the northern outskirts of Sydney.

A master at work! Awesome video Peachy, really enjoyed that master class! What weight setup are you using?
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Kayleb! It’s a 7 weight Sage Payload, need a bit of grunt to throw cicadas as they are a bit bulky and wind resistant. Ps I haven’t forgotten if you’re still keen to come for a fish?

Another great video Steve! I noticed you were using a yellow cicada, two weeks ago in the Nepean Gorge with Glenn I started with a black cicada with mixed results but a change to a yellow one worked a treat!
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Michael! Yeah the yellow ones have been working well for me this season, they are a bit more easily visible in the shade. I think the belly colour is most important for the fish though, I’ve been tying these ones with a more mottled belly, mix of olive and tan which seems to be matching this years cicadas pretty well. :)

Love it Peachy! I fish for them wading a tidal creek down here in the Shoalhaven. Are you getting those on the Peachy Cicada?
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Rick! Yes I'm getting them all on my cicada pattern at the moment. That's awesome that you have a wadeable spot, it's not easy to find good land based bass water for fly. I have fished one of the tributaries of the Shoalhaven for bass a couple of times, it was really good actually... :)

@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Hi Adriano, it's a 7 weight. I've done a video on what rod and line I like to use for bass, you can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l-aS39pg2YU.html Cheers! :)

im thinking of going on a bass fly fishing trip to nsw in late march (from SA) but have no idea which part of nsw to go for them ahah struggling to find info on good river systems and impoundments to target them, awesome video as always brother
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Thanks mate! Depending on how far you want to travel, there are some wonderful bigger river systems in mid-northern NSW, rivers like the Macleay or Clarence are probably the prime bass waters especially for larger fish. Having said that, there are plenty of other nice rivers too. Will you have a boat or kayak?
@prizmatik8696

@@PeachyFlyFishing wanting to go land based as that's just personal preference for me but might bring a kayak just in case

was considering checking out some rivers central coast area for them but have no idea how access is around there ahah@@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
@prizmatik8696 land based is hard for bass (in the rivers anyway), there's not many areas that are suitable. Generally you want to be in the middle of the river, casting at the shady banks as that's where the bass usually are. I'd highly recommend bringing a kayak....
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
@prizmatik8696 for access spots, if you look me up on Insta or FB and DM me I can point you to a few spots on the central coast.

Great action - love hearing those cicadas on a river. We fished tidal Barra up north so why not bass? Another winner mate!
@PeachyFlyFishing
@PeachyFlyFishing 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Peter! Yeah it’s very similar in many ways to Barra fishing, minus the huge size but with the added bonus of surface dry fly eats…..definitely the best practice for southerners wanting to go Barra fishing! :)
