Great video! My extended family and I are heading for Eleuthera in a week and I’d like to try some bone fishing while I’m there. Staying near Governors Harbor. Can I ask about some possible locations and more importantly, what gear to bring? Planning on a single fly rod (assuming only floating line), and buying some flies from my local shop prior to departure. Thx. Todd
Sorry for the slow response, I was fishing in a remote destination for the last week. 7 or 8 weight rod. Size 4 gotcha. 12 lb flouro. There is a good flat on the west side of Governors Harbor. Just North of Governors Harbor. In between Eluthera and a small island. The best fishing is going to all the way on the North end or the South end of the Island. All of the creek systems are good. Savannah Sound just south of were you are staying can also be excellent, but it is very tide dependent.
I am impressed with your crew. My experience is a few decades in the British Virgin Islands and the Florida Keys. I think your crew would love Anegada BVI and surrounding Islands Bonefish permit and tarpon. You don't need a guide. Reasonable price great value.
Nice video. Curious, why don't you get off the SUP and wade? Would be easier to handle those fish in the mangroves on foot. Use the SUP to get to the spots and then tie it off onto a mangrove. Maybe the bottom is super soft?
Yeah. We do get off and wade when we can. But this was way too soft.To be honest though, I almost prefer staying on the SUP. I am amazed how much ground we can cover and cover quietly on a SUP. Plus the height advantage is huge. Every 1’ of height we gain gives us 20’ more feet of view into the water. Having said that, I love wading too.
Great video!! I am heading down in late Nov to do some DIY bonefishing etc. Hope to use a sup instead of kayaks. Did you rent sups when you were there? Was that around Savannah Sound or up north? Beautiful mangrove flats. Love chasing carp out here in Colorado. Thanks again for sharing.
We actually brought our own SUPs. I have a smaller Bote and cheap Amazon special. We fished Savannah Sound and did well, we also fished down on the south end and up by the airport in the North. The further you can get from the easy access, the better it gets.
Headed to E tomorrow. Could you share some of the places you fish. I know that for some folk that question is a no no. But with a limited visit I cant waste too much time searching.
I get the same rush stalking a tailing carp as I do a tailing bone. Love those fish. Nothing is quite like the speed of a bones first run though. Especially on the lighter equipment we typically use for them.
