Keen to get out and catch my first Bass of the year on fly, I ventured out in hot bright conditions and a small tide. A combination that I don't normally favour. Despite my reservations I still managed to catch some fish for the camera.
The video contains hints and tips for catching Bass on the fly at any time.

Keeping the mark safe is presicley why its so hard for younger folks to get in to this style of fishing. bass are so far and few between in the UK now

I don't disagree with you at all, it would be great to see some recruitment into this side of the sport from the younger generation. Unfortunately to reveal a mark would be to leave it open to commercial exploitation not to mention every other bass angler and his dog would rape the mark. Putting in the hard work is the best way to learn, walk the miles, fish the venue's find the fish, it's far more rewarding than being placed on the going spot. I'm old school like that 🙂

great films Chris many thanks for sharing them! As a newbie to this can you give some general advice on the end of the gear? leader length, breaking strain, lines used etc?

Hi Ryan, thanks, glad you enjoyed them. Will be doing more just as soon as the season starts. End tackle wise, I use about a 6 foot leader using a stiff flourocarbon. Half of that is 30lb flouro, the point section is 20lb, I join them with a figure of eight loop to loop knot. This combination gives a nice turnover on the fly and facilitates changing the point section should it become worn or chaffed without having to replace the whole six feet every time. Hope that helps. Chris
