Yes you did Jonathan!!!! And your fleas were on my casts regularly too!!! Don't know if you remember or not, but we met at a stretch of the Towy one night when we used to fish it in the early 00's……. you showed me how to fish the tail of a certain pool with a small pumphouse by a weir and how a ticket from the land owner was "Much bloody cheaper"!!!!!!!! So many metres of fly line out etc etc...… We had a discussion about how some of your native tagged sewin showed up in my home river and how you were to head over to investigate. Lot of water under the bridge now eh!!!!!!!!! Take care boyo!!! And I remember you once say that a good flea had to have a "BIT OF YELLO"!!!!!!!

Well done making a nice film in Ireland. As a fishery manager and guide all my life, you need water to get migratory fish. Pity it didn't rain for you.

Really enjoyed the video, I am from cork just an hour or so from where you spent your time in this video. You fished some famous local spots in sheen falls and currane but if you are after alternative spots for salmon try the river Blackwater in cork, it fishes great on the lure and the fly I hope you enjoyed the irish craic and hospitality(and the guinness of course)

This is a beautifully shot video. The first river Cloghane is an early river for sea trout (white trout) and the run of bigger fish is over by mid-May. After that you can expect sea trout averaging half a pound and grilse (peel) of 3lb to 4lb

Thank you for the comment @Tim McCaffrey . Good to know the fishing in May can be so great!

@@OnTheWaterMedia Just a clarification! The river is the Owenmore. It's in the village of Cloghane and like most Irish rivers, fish run in and out all year round. Big fish run early on most Irish rivers but not exclusively. I've had big, fresh sea trout from Lough Currane in August and smaller but not finnock on most Kerry rivers. Good fish travel in with the finnock as do salmon. Not unusual to stand on the bridge which splits the two pools fished in this excellent video and watch 100 sea trout and a dozen salmon waiting to run. Owenmore is much more than a grilse river in salmon terms. Double figure summer fish not uncommon. Fantastic place. There's an even smaller river on the road in which carries very big salmon. Fortunately, the Owenmore is difficult to fish (and poach) which is why it's still so good. I reckon, the best small river system in Ireland. Frank watches it like a hawk. As good a fishery manager as there is in Ireland.

It's a small pool and a line flying back and forth will spook the fish. I've fished it a bit and one wrong move kills the fishing.

While I enjoyed the video, it does not represent fishing in Ireland accurately, there is tons of free fishing, any method, all across the country and it is possible to land sea trout of 10 /12 pounds, and some even bigger, the same for brown trout.

@@markdeer952 if You don't your dry skin will take more scales off the fish, allowing infection or parasites in easier, trout have delicate scales, best practice in catch and release is to remember this when handling

Nice vid. Looks a great place! However, from my point of view, I am a bit disappointed to see fish being lifted out of the water on the end of the line and lobbed back in. Is that your normal practice?
@OnTheWaterMedia
@OnTheWaterMedia 5 лет назад
We appreciate the concern @MrBrysie. As someone who also works at a trout hatchery I can attest that during trout stockings it's necessary to toss trout in particular up a bit so they slap the water. This aerates them and snaps them back to life and they tend to take off rapidly afterwards. If you don't, they tend to roll over belly up and die unless you right them. Some people even stock trout via airplane with minimal loss of life: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fJ0ulj0GbG4.html .
@MrBrysie
@MrBrysie 5 лет назад
@@OnTheWaterMedia ok appreciate your professional viewpoint but chucking them back is not something that I would not do . And what about lifting them out of the water on the end of the line?

"Id say take him" and then you go on saying that theres tough fishing conditions....ya mate thats cause all you americans come here think you can pay youre way around and then take our fish that you say is so tough to fish for......that year only a few fish where caught on the sheen and you came along and killed one of that few....well done...

Catch and release is way more prevalent in the USA than Ireland. The paddies should take a queue.
