Watched this (and other fly fishing trips) wth my 8 year old son standing by me. Yesterday we went out fishing the Provo River in Utah. He asked me "is this where the Wee trout live" I said (puzzled by his wording.) "there might be some" a minute later we caught a nice rainbow, he said "is that a wee trout??" it was then I realized he thought "a wee trout" or a "wee brown" was a TYPE of trout, not a SIZE of trout hahahah. love your stuff Davie!
@@DavieMcPhail "That? oh those are Scottish fishing waders!" of course that answer might just give him more questions....like when my Dad told me that escalators went all the way through the world and the chinese used the other sides...lol
Hi Davie and congratulation on the fantastic trout you caught; I have been following you for many years, you are my fly tying teacher and my favourite fly is Green Peter's Sedge Hopper with which I fished a lot of trouts. See you soon!
That was a smashing trout, Davie, nice job! Good to see you enjoying your time on the water, and I always pick up a good few tips and tricks from you to try next time. Your commentary's always entertaining and I'm glad to know I'm not alone getting tangled from missed strikes! Top man 👍
Great fun to watch. My son and I got out this last Friday and part of Saturday. Flows so low it was like August. Had the same problem with misses and quick releases. Had drifts going upstream due to low flows and wind. DH and the Usual ruled the day.
Great video again davie, stunning fish for any weather👌,i was on the tweed yesterday,it was scorching ,burnt all my arms🙈 but managed a few fish too,so all worth it in the end haha, keep up the videos, thanks davie 👍
Just been out on my local spate river Davie.. Went early, but the beggars were toying with me. I had rises but they were coming short. Came away around half one as the sun was belting down and there's no shade whatsoever.
Great weather Davie but not really for fishing. In Scotland this is something we aren't used to and nor are the trout. Last kick of daylight has been my respite on the Ayr last week with some nice trout and a few salmon moving too.
Hi Comes a Horseman, The water is a good temperature due to it coming from the loch so it never gets high unlike the other river I fish which is too warm so I don't fish it until it rains again..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Love your natural, honest, relaxed and experienced commentary. Feel I am fishing with you even though I live in South Africa. I once fly fished the Stinchar back in 1968 on school hols also with low river and 'heat wave'. You have bridged that nostalgic time gap for me, thanks Davie! PS what is your magic dry sedge pattern you are using in this video?
Hi @cruiserwilliams6075, The Stinchar is not that far away, I've had a few off it in the past though I've not fished it for a few years...I'll attach a link to the caddis pattern I was catching on for you to see.. Aye Davie , nothing like making wrong conditions look like a stroll well done , which I’m sure it wasn’t, folk sometimes forget troot have tae eat like us in all weathers it’s all about adapting great stuff again
Well done Davie, my heartbeat went up watching you and the fight off the big trout. I wonder how high our blood pressure gets during a good fish fight. Cheers, stsy safe, Big Davie
In Russia , when they want to wish a successful fishing , they say neither tail nor scales . And it is also considered wrong !!! wish the fisherman GOOD LUCK! DAVI you are the best!!!
Hi Gizmo Carr, I was using a Cadence 9ft 4# rod and their reel and line in the video, I've been using their rods for a couple of seasons now and I am very happy with them..I have attached links to them for you to see...The water is lovely and clear at the moment as you can see in the video so the fish are in great condition.. Bonjour Davie.
Hi Olivier Briclot, I am fishing the River Doon which is on the south west coast just over 35 miles south of Glasgow, I have attached a link to it on google maps for you to see..I'm glad you are enjoying your visit to Scotland and my video.. I think I like the sound of the river as much as the scenery..... Who makes the net you were using? I like the small size hoop but a fairly deep rubber net.
Hi @dtrout, I was given the frame of the net from a friend that was throwing it away so I took it from him and bought the silicon net off amazon for £5, it was a little big but I got it to fit..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Great video as usual Davie. Some excellent quality brownies. Thoroughly enjoyed your efforts. Have the brown trout always been this quality on the Doon, or has it improved since the decline of salmon and seatrout? Cheers 👍
Hi Scott, Even when I was a boy I caught lovely brown trout when I fished the Doon in Dalmellinton where I was born which was in the 70s so for me there's always been good trout in the river..Even when I was a Ghillie on the Doon I would fish for brown trout when there were no salmon around so I would say it's a great trout water..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Hi Davie, Thanks for your reply. A Dalmellington boy! What a wonderful place to grow up,the Carrick forest and Loch Doon and the river too. It's no wonder you ended up doing the great things you love to do. I lived in Patna for a time while working on the trout farm in Dalrymple, quite often walked along the Doon, I think it was the Smithston beat, looked very fishy,(Salmon). When I'm not fishing on the river myself it's a great privilege to join you on your trips out. On your flytying videos, that are an incredible inspiration, you quite often mention managing a trout fishery. Just wondered which one? Keep up the great work 👍 Cheers Scott
Hi Scott, I worked at Springwater fishery so I knew Henry really well.. I was there from 1994 when it opened until l started working at the Glasgow Angling Centre around 2006..I also worked at Smithston so I knew this water really well, many good trout in there too..I'm glad you enjoy the videos.. All the very best Davie
Very enjoyable and informative. Can you recommend a good midge spray? I was told about good one called jungle juice that the mad fisherman uses in Ireland.
Hi I Believe, Avon skin so soft is very good for midges so I have attached a link to it for you to see..If you read the feedback you'll see many use this.. Hi Evilmothericebear Killerbird, Like Mike said below I was using a 9ft 4# Cadence which is my go to rod especially for dry flies though I like it for wets and even nymphs..I've attached links to them below for you to see...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I am very lucky to have a day on it once a week..
