Episode 3: Prospect this magnificent cool clear tailwater
The Meander River is a beautiful tailwater that runs out of Huntsman Dam, ‘meandering’ through forest and then farmland before it meets the South Esk near Launceston. It runs cold and clear all season, even through the heat of summer, and the dry fly fishing can be exceptional.
We join Brendan Turriff as he prospects his way through the fast pocket water of the upper tailwater and down into the long glides of the rural meadows where sipping trout can be seen feeding on the surface of the many pools and runs of this beautiful stretch of water.

Bang on @chrish3030 - I just spent the last two days fishing the Meander above Huntsman Dam to Deloraine and it was one of the most miserable fisheries I've experienced in 50 years of fishing. I've fished all over the world and know how to find and catch fish, and there were hardly any to be found. I turned over a lot of rocks looking for bugs and found a few, but only few. I just don't think there are many fish in this river anymore and I guess that is why I saw nobody else fishing here, up and down the river. Sad.

Very sad, people have no idea about the real health of the river, like you did go and turn some rocks over and see for yourself. The couple of spots he fished have very limited wading opportunities due to high water levels. This river is no longer the natural environment it was before the dam went in. It is becoming a drainage ditch for farmers. Surely publications like flylife should be presenting a realistic picture.

Terrific video. Thank you. It brought back fond memories, as I spent many hours on the Meander in my youth. Those waters above Deloraine are so much fun. How’s the serenity, indeed! Thank you again.

Cool video I'm heading down to tassie next week I'm so keen I'm used to fishing along the rugged coast line of South Australia I can't wait for my first fresh water fish

I’d love to do another video about the reality of this declining river, timber harvesting, dairy farming and damming this once natural habitat has changed the river for the worse.

Tas Government let alone fisheries couldn't care less ,they have hidden the report on our rivers and redacted the recommendations from the report. Many rivers in decline and already the loss of many May Fly species... Typical Liberal scum ,time to clean them out of office !
